Georgiana burst into her office, kicking the door open with a force that matched her mood. Her hair whipped around her face as she stormed in, slamming her project onto the table. Frustration pulsed through her. She felt like she was about to explode.
She pushed the door to the balcony wide open, craving fresh air. High above the city, the breeze rushed in, helping her catch her breath. Despite not having run a mile, her heart raced, fueled by anger towards Arthur. He had a way of turning her calm world upside down, filling her with emotions she couldn't control.
Standing outside, the sun warmed her skin, and the gentle wind brushed against her, easing some of her tension. Georgiana closed her eyes, trying to calm the storm inside her. She took a deep breath and she began to feel more at peace.
Georgiana pulled her phone from her jacket with urgency, frustration bubbling inside her. She scrolled to Maya’s name and hit call, her foot tapping impatiently on the ground.
The phone continued on ringing and ringing, and Maya wasn't there. She was getting frustrated.
"Why isn’t she picking up?" After a few rings, Georgiana felt her irritation grow until Maya finally answered, her voice bright and cheerful.
“Hello, how’s your first day going?” Maya asked, completely unaware of the storm brewing inside Georgiana.
“Your brother, Arthur is my boss Maya. Did you have any idea if that was going to happen.”Georgiana replied almost immediately, trying to keep her voice steady. But her own voice was betraying her.
The words hung in the air and an immediate silence followed. On the other end of the line, Maya paused, the cheerful tone fading.
“Wait, what? Arthur is your boss?” Maya asked wanting to clarify it, even though Georgiana's voice was allowed and clear.
"Georgiana.. I...I had no idea...." Maya was trying to bring out her words but was unable to.
However, Georgiana squeezed her eyes shut, feeling guilt wash over her for dropping such a bomb. Why did I say it like that? She thought, wishing she could take it back.
“No Maya, I don't blame you and I am sorry I said it like that. I didn’t see that coming at all, and now I don't know how to behave and react I.. I don't know.” She said, trying to soften the blow.
Maya’s voice turned serious.
“I’m so sorry. How are you feeling there?”
Georgiana stepped toward the balcony, placing her hands on the glass railing, staring out at the towering skyscrapers and the swirling clouds above. She felt disconnected from the beauty around her.
After a long pause, Georgiana finally spoke again.
“I don’t know what to do, Maya. This is just... overwhelming. Looking at him makes me mad, and he is simply too up-tight all the time.” Georgiana was spitting fire.
Maya’s tone shifted, understanding the weight of the situation.
“I get it. It must be tough. Are you okay?”
Georgiana bit her lip, not wanting to admit how chaotic her emotions felt. Angry, sad, afraid.
“This is my job and he cannot mess with it." Georgiana's voice broke her But she tried to be strong.
“Do you want to talk about it? I’m here for you.” Maya’s voice softened.
However, Georgiana leaned against the railing, staring blankly at the horizon. What if this changes everything?
Maya to that moment understood that she had to do something for Georgiana.
"Listen to me." Maya said in her city is done.
"You are right, you cannot let anyone mess with your work. So don't start now." Maya said and Georgiana backed away from the barrier and listened to her carefully. Both of us didn't see it coming, so now all you can do is control your emotions. That is the only thing you can control over." Maya explained giving Georgiana the talk that she in-fact needed.
It was at that moment Georgiana in back to reality and there was a spark.
"I love you Maya." She said understanding there was no other way but to walk through the storm.
Georgiana stepped back onto her room, feeling inspired after her talk with Maya.
The sun was setting, casting a warm glow over her workspace. She opened her laptop, her fingers ready to type. Georgiana had a big project to finish, and she wanted to impress Arthur and show him she isn't afraid of him. Maya had given her a pep talk, reminding her of her talent and hard work. With renewed energy, Georgiana focused on her writing. Nothing would distract her; she was determined to show Arthur how dedicated she was. The words flowed easily, and she felt proud of what she was creating. This was her moment.
Georgiana finally finished her project. With her laptop and files in hand, she took a deep breath and walked out of her office. Her heart raced as she headed toward Arthur’s office. She didn’t want to see him, but he was her boss.
She knocked on the door, feeling a mix of anxiety and anger. She took in a deep breath and let it out.
“Come in,” Arthur’s voice boomed from inside. It was strong and commanding, making her feel even more nervous. With a deep breath, she opened the door and stepped inside. To her surprise, Mr. Daniels, another department head, was also there.
Arthur sat at his desk, looking big and imposing. His expression was serious, and Georgiana felt her anger bubbling inside her. She walked up to him, handed over the laptop and files, and tried to keep her composure. Arthur’s gaze was fixed on her, but he soon turned his attention to the papers on his desk.
“Sit down,” he said, not looking at her. She hesitated for a moment but then took a seat, her heart still racing. Arthur began to go through the files with intense focus. Georgiana was taken aback. Only because whenever she had seen him outside of work he was usually very rude to people or remained silent. Seeing him so concentrated was strange.
As he flipped through the papers, she leaned back in her chair, glancing at the project notes beside him. Suddenly, he passed a paper to her. She looked at it, her heart sinking. Written at the top was
“To correct.”
Georgiana’s eyes widened in shock.
“You don’t like it?” she asked, surprised.
Arthur simply nodded, his expression still unreadable. He closed her laptop and looked at her.
Georgiaana glared at Arthur, her frustration bubbling over.
“What’s not to like? You said it yourself.” she snapped, crossing her arms tightly. Arthur, sitting confidently in his chair like the CEO he was, took a deep breath.
“It’s okay, but I still think there’s room for improvement,” he replied, his tone calm yet firm.
“I know you can come up with something even better.”
His words only fueled her anger further. Georgiaana let out a heavy sigh, the tension in her chest finally breaking free. She looked Arthur straight in the eyes, her voice steady but laced with irritation.
“You hired me because I’m good at my job. This is me doing my best”
Arthur maintained his composure, nodding slowly.
“I trust your work, Georgiaana. I really do. I believe you have the potential to bring out the best in this project.” He glanced at her laptop, pushing it slightly back toward her.
“But I still think it can be amazing.”
As he spoke, he didn’t break eye contact. Mr. Daniel, who stood nearby, watched the exchange in shock, unsure of how to intervene. The tension in the room was loud, and Georgiaana felt her anger rising.
“I’ll be right here waiting for you to finish,” Arthur continued, his voice steady.
“I don’t mind reading it again if you need me to.”
Georgiaana’s face flushed red. She didn’t respond, instead, she grabbed her laptop and papers abruptly.
“I can’t believe this.” she muttered under her breath as she turned on her heel and walked away, her frustration evident in her stride.
Arthur watched her go, feeling a mix of regret and understanding. He knew he had pushed her buttons, and she had every right to be angry.
"You might have upset her." Mr Daniel said.
“I didn’t mean to upset her,” he thought, shaking his head slightly.
Mr. Daniel finally spoke up, breaking the silence.
“Do you think you should have approached her differently?”
Arthur sighed, running a hand through his hair.
“she uw smart and good at what she does. Pushing her would help.”
“Sometimes, people need support, not pressure,” Daniel advised gently.
Arthur thought about it for a second and he couldn't help but think that may be he was a little too harsh on her.
Nodding as both the men went back to their conversation they were having before, but at that moment, Arthur glanced at the door that was closing on its own. Realising that she had gone.
