Georgiana was completely drained from a dreadful first day at her new job. She had been so hopeful about starting work at such a prestigious company, but it turned out to be a nightmare, especially because she had to work with a man she despised. She had a dream and now it had literally and officially become a nightmare.
Despite the excellent pay and the prestige of the company, the day had been a terrible, horrible experience for her. But there was one thing she had completely thought and that was, Georgiana was determined not to let one person ruin her dream, especially not Arthur.
As she walked out of the elevator of her luxury apartment complex, she headed to her apartment with a heavy heart. Opening the door, she found the lights on, as usual. Nothing was different about that but as she stepped into her home all she felt was cold and a silent home.
Her Maya, who was an assistant director and often away, was not there. And she knew it very well because, if Maya was there in the house there would be a lot of noise. She would be singing everywhere and especially the TV would be on.
Georgiana felt the emptiness of the apartment on her and it was heavy. She immediately, dropped her bag by the door and slumped against it, feeling a wave of loneliness.
Walking into the house her eyes landed on the fridge, she noticed a sticky note from Maya and it read.
"Hi Georgiana, The director and producer need me to be at a different location for a few days. I’ve made lasagna and fried chicken for you. Choose what you’d like to eat. I’ll order groceries tomorrow. Love you, talk soon. And eat all your food."
It was actually a very nice thing. Maya was the only one who cooked in the house. Even though Georgiana was tired and down, the thought of having some homemade food waiting for her lifted her spirits slightly. Maya's note was a comforting reminder of her sister’s love and support. More like of her enemies sister's love and support. Maya was Arthur's sister after all and nothing like him.
" Thank you God." Georgiana said out loud and making her way towards her bedroom, needing to get that office smell out of her.
...........................................................
After a long.... A very long and well deserved hot bath, Georgiana was now refreshed, and she made her way out of her steaming bathroom. her wet hair wrapped in a towel she was refresh and a new human after all this.
And ones out of her bathroom and bedroom, all she heard was the faint sound of music coming from the living room, which made the apartment feel less lonely. And it also made it feel like Maya was still there.
Walking into the living room she saw descendants of the sun being played on TV. The k drama absolutely loved. With a small smile on her face and a very grumpy stomach, she made her weight was the kitchen. Opening the door of the fridge Georgiana saw variety of food in the fridge. There was salads, chicken wings, something that was chicken and was fried as well and a big box of lasagna. It was a simple but thoughtful gesture from Maya that brought a genuine smile to Georgiana's face for the first time that day.
Mostly because you was simply just hungry.
She placed the lasagna in the oven, eager to enjoy a warm meal and finally feel a little sense of human being inside of her. But as she did so and stood back, waiting. Georgiana's mind wandered back to Arthur, and he was here after tormenting her years ago.
All she very well remembers is the word he used on her "pathetic." That word has traumatized her for years.
The thought of facing him every day at work was unsettling, and it stirred up old feelings of anger and frustration. Her frustration grew, and she found herself fuming about how much Arthur seemed to affect her life negatively.
Why was he even back in her life she se simply did not understand.
"Peeepppp.."
Suddenly, Georgiana was jolted back to reality by a loud beep from the oven. And immediately she rushed to remove the lasagna. Without thinking for a second and without even using oven mitts Georgiana grabbed the box and immediately felt that terrible pain as she burned her hand.
The pain was sharp and very sudden.
"Ahhh... Fuckkkk... s**t" she cried out, feeling a mix of pain and frustration.
The burn made her realize how much she was letting Arthur’s presence affect her mood and well-being. She threw the box on the counter and stepped back, her anger at Arthur bubbling over. And the pain was getting over stimulating on her
"Why does he have to be so difficult? Why does this have to be so difficult!"
she yelled into the empty kitchen, feeling the weight of her frustration and loneliness. Immediately Georgiana started to below on her fingers, calm herself down and let the pain go away but nothing was working
And right them suddenly her phone rang, distracting her from her angry thoughts.
She turned around very irritated to see who it was calling her so late at night?.
It was then that she saw, it was her father.
"Dad.." she whispered and picked up the phone, her hand still stinging.
“Dad, I’m so glad you called,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady despite the discomfort and her rough day.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t call you earlier love. How was your first day?” her father asked really caring about her.
Georgiana’s throat tightened, and she struggled to hide her disappointment.
“It.......It was great. Everyone was really nice, and we started of the project. Eventually they liked my ideas too,” she said, lying about the positive reception of her ideas, knowing Arthur had shot them down.
But never tell less Georgiana continued to blow on her fingers. The pain was getting a little unbearable but this conversation was important.
“I’m impressed. I know you’ll do a great job wherever you go,” her father said, his voice filled with pride and encouragement.
His words were a balm to her wounded spirit, but as she looked down at the kitchen counter, her smile fading.
She felt an overwhelming sadness.
“When can I see you, Dad?” she asked, her voice breaking slightly as she sought comfort.
There was a long pause on the other end of the line.
“It’s okay,” she said, understanding that be was a busy man with a busy schedule and ongoing operation.
“I understand. I just… I really miss you.”
“We’ll meet soon, once things settle down with this operation. I promise,” her father reassured her, offering hope and encouragement.
“I love you, Dad,” she said, her voice trembling.
“I love you too, Georgiana,” he replied, and with that, they ended the call.
Georgiana hung up, feeling a pang of loneliness and longing. For the first time, she felt truly alone, with no one to turn to. She moved to the counter, making her way towards her food and taking the lasagna and chicken and placing them on a plate.
She slowly like a failed soldier made her way over to the couch, feeling like a little child who was upset and alone. She sat down, with the TV in front of her, but she barely noticed it.
The drama playing on the TV went unnoticed as she ate, mouth was completely filled like a child would eat out of anger or even sadness. The only thing left for her was to cry out loud.
But she was lost in her thoughts. Her hands still hurt from the burn, and her heart ached from the day’s disappointments.
The luxury of her apartment felt cold and unwelcoming, and she was overwhelmed by a deep sense of isolation.
In her luxury apartment, surrounded by the comforts of success, Georg
iana felt like she was nothing.
Just like she felt when she was a college student, humiliated.
