Chapter1
Georgiana found herself engulfed in a maze of sound, the noise of the crowd around her, and yet she couldn't hear a thing. Her heart pounded in her chest as she wove through the sea of faces, trying to understand where she was.
Georgiana was trying to find her bestfriend, Maya.
Although scene felt familiar, yet disorientingly strange, as if she had wandered into a memory she couldn't quite place.
She was alone in the crowd, isolated despite the throng of people surrounding her.
Suddenly, her gaze landed on a figure that froze her in place. A man she never wanted to see again, Arthur Miller, a billionaire, a powerful man, a man that people and wanted too. He was Maya's brother. His expression was a volatile mix of dread and fury, emotions etched deeply on his face. He locked eyes with Georgiana from across the room, his anger was fury now.
Arthur began to move through the crowd, his path unwavering, each step a silent threat. Georgiana's breath caught in her throat as he drew nearer. Her legs felt heavy, but she stood her ground, unable to look away from his face.
Arthur reached her and towered over her, his ey w she could never forget. Immediately, he grabbed her hand with a grip so firm it felt almost crushing. Georgiana struggled against him as he dragged her, her gown making her almost fall in her movements, but his strength was overwhelming.
"Arthur, what are you doing???" She asked, but Arthur’s focus remained unyielding. He ignored her, his grip unrelenting as he dragged her away from the party. Georgiana’s attempts to pull free, but his power was too great.
"Arthur, Stop it. " Georgiana said desperate and worried.
Outside, the cold night air hit Georgiana sharply as Arthur yanked her into the darkness. He released her roughly, letting her stumble slightly as he stepped back.
“What is wrong with you??...” Georgiana demanded, her voice trembling as she faced him, the chilling wind matching the ice in his stare.
"STOP TALKING"
Arthur’s voice boomed through the large garden, his anger cutting through the open air. And, it was needless to say, she was shocked.
She blinked her eyes several times, freaked out.
“I have never seen someone as shameless as you,” He declared, his tone thick and rough with fury. Georgiana, caught off guard, stood frozen in place. Her heart pounded in her chest, and a cold sweat broke out on her skin. The intensity of Arthur’s gaze almost made her blood run cold.
She wanted to respond, to ask him why he was so enraged, but no words came. Her mouth opened and closed in a futile attempt. She was confused.
While fear gripped her. Arthur was a powerful man, large as he stood in front of her, making her feel small. His presence was formidable and his anger unsettling.
She was a small creature trapped in a storm.
“You’re a pathetic woman,” He said, his voice dripping with anger. The harshness of his words struck her like a fire that had started to burn her.
"Huhhh." She gasped. Georgiana’s breath caught in her throat, and she could only stare at him in shock. The insult hit her mind, she was speechless.
"Wha....you....." She tried to speak.
“i thought you were a good woman, my sister's friend you call yourself. But I read you wrong, I failed to understand you completely. " He said, leaving Georgiana confused.
And right then he took out his phone from his jacket pocket and moved closer to her. Arthur then grabbed her hand so tightly that she got so scared. Georgiana tried to fight back but he pulled her hand harshly, never once looking away from her and put the phone on her hand.
Georgian looked down to see it was an article, a blog. It was about Maya, something that happened in her personal life and it was something only her family knew and Georgiana knew. Nobody else knew this because this matter was so sensitive. It almost destroyed Maya on the inside and it was written out here for the world to read.
"I.... I didn't..."
"Then who did?" He asked, his voice rough. Georgiana on the other hand was shaking her head, in complete disbelief and she was only thinking about Maya and what she must be feeling.
" If not you then who? Who would have known about this?" He whispered looking her head into her soul. She had never felt do shaken. And the fact that Arthur did not believe her was painful .
She knew they both did not know each other much, or ever talk to each other over the years. But one thing she knew was that, as protective us she was of Maya, he was protective of his sister.
His eyes bored into her.
Georgiana’s mind raced. She had no idea how to counter his claims. He didn’t know the truth and made his decision. Georgiana could never do this to her best friend.
"This speaks volumes about the woman you are. That makes me sick,” he spat, his voice thick with contempt.
“You’re only in her life for the wealth and my family refused to believe that, but that is the truth. Isn't that who you are? You use people." He said moving closer to her and she was paralyzed.
"You use their information." He muttered, taking small steps to her.
"Get close to them, feed off them." He went on accusing her and her eyes started to fill up. Georgiana felt disgusted.
"I can’t stand the thought of someone like you being so close to her."
Georgiana’s world seemed to collapse around her. Her legs felt weak, and her entire body began to shake uncontrollably.
Tears streamed down her face, her fear and humiliation making her feel as though she was nothing.
he was standing right in front of her. His breath on her. The sudden silence that followed was deafening. Georgiana’s breath came in short, ragged gasps.
That is not when he leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper.
"You’re a pathetic woman. And you will always be this." He said, the word a bitter, final declaration.
As he moved back and she looked him dead in his eyes and all she saw was fire.
"Huuuuhhh..."
Georgiana’s eyes snapped open, and she gasped for air. She immediately look around her very bright and sun of the morning beaming bedroom. And that was when it hit her.
"It had all been a nightmare. A cruel and terrifying dream."
For a moment, she sat up in bed , trying to shake off the horrifying memory that had suddenly resurfaced. The dream was vivid, almost as if it had happened yesterday, even though it had been years.
Immediately, georgiana swung her legs over the side of the bed and made her way to the living room.
Her black hair all messy, her night dress tangled, she was a mess inside out. Once outside, Georgiana looked around her massive living room to see, Maya, her best friend, was humming softly while preparing breakfast.
The apartment they shared together was bright and welcoming.Maya, with her golden hair pulled back, was flipping pancakes and chatting to herself as if she were alone. The sight of Maya and the cozy apartment brought Georgia a fleeting sense of comfort.
“Morning,” Maya said cheerfully, not noticing Georgiana's distress at first.
“I made your favorite........ pancakes!” Maya said, singing away.
Georgiana managed a weak smile as she sank into a chair at the kitchen table.
“Morning. I... I had this terrible dream,” she said, her voice trembling.
Maya’s smile faded as she looked up from the pan.
“What happened?”
Georgiana stared at the table, struggling.
“It was about that night...” she whispered.
Maya’s expression grew serious. She stopped what she was doing.
"You know it was just a nightmare, right? It was a misunderstanding with my brother back then. He never meant to hurt you.”
“I know,” Georgiana said, her voice barely a whisper.
“But the things he said, they’re still in my mind. And I know I never wanted to see him after, but he never tried to apologise either.” Georgiana expressed.
Maya’s face softened with empathy.
“I understand. But you’ve got to remember, that was years ago. And look where you are now.” Maya gestured around the apartment.
“We’ve both come so far. The rumors about me, the pain, it’s all in the past. Your name is cleared, and you’ve worked so hard to get here.”
Georgiana looked around the apartment, nodding .
“And today,” Maya continued, placing the pancake on the plate.
"Is the start of your new job as a marketing manager. My promoted b***h"
Maya said. Happier than ever.
A small smile tugged at Georgiana's lips as Maya placed a plate of golden pancakes in front of her. Georgiana only chuckled and now blessed by the aroma.
“Forget about that nightmare. You said you never wanted to see my brother and I made sure of that, and I will protect you from him forever. He is my brother I love him, but I love you too. If you don't want to meet him ever in your life, I will make sure of it." Maya said, with her chest forward and she was very sure about this.
"But for now, it’s a new beginning. Today is all about celebrating you and your achievements.”
Georgiana took a deep breath, nodding her head. As she took a bite of the pancakes, she realized that Maya was right. The past was the past, and it was time to focus on the future.
The nightmare was just that.... A fleeting terror that could not overshadow.
Georgiana new she was never going to meet Arthur in her life again. So why even think about him.
