Albi's Point of View Another Friday night, another frat party, and I was just as bored at this one as I was at the last one, and the one before that, and, well, you know where I'm going with this. I couldn't tell you whose party it was and, frankly, I didn't care - it was a random guy from a random 'brotherhood'. All the parties just bled into each other. I tried as hard as I possibly could to enjoy myself, but being a werewolf in the human world meant that I couldn't be myself and I couldn't relax. My girlfriend, Savannah, had drunk far more than any human should ever attempt at 18 and was dancing like a lunatic with her cheer-leading gal pals. They were having the time of their lives and I envied them of that. I swigged luke warm beer from a plastic cup and for just a second wished I wasn't a werewolf. The guys that surrounded me were all hammered hours ago, whilst I was just doing my best to play along. Werewolves needed much more than weak beer to get tanked. I did everything I could to fit into the human world. I dated, even though I wasn't really into any girl that wasn't my mate. I was part of the football team, although I had to dial back on both my speed and strength. My grades were ok, but they could have been better. My main aim was to blend in and be the most typically average college boy I could possibly be. When the girls started chanting for 'shots' from the living room, I saw my opportunity to escape guilt free. "Guys, I gotta get Sav out of here." I pulled a face that suggested it was the last thing I wanted to do. "Just leave her with the others, man, she'll be fine." Slurred Curtis. My best friend in my made-up world. I looked over at her and back at my beer as if I was actually considering it. But the truth was if she drank much more she'd end up in the hospital. "I hear she gets really horny when she's in that state. You should take her home the long way round." Josh put in, in a slimy voice. I hated this prick with a passion! He had no moral compass and the reason he knew she became promiscuous when she'd been drinking was because they'd been sleeping together behind my back for months! I hadn't called either of them out on it. The relationship I had with Savannah wasn't exactly real and, as part of my typical human life, it suited me to keep it going. Finding out didn't really hurt me, but it did confuse the hell out of me. I treated her well, I always drove, I paid for everything. But then, I'd never done anything other than kiss her, I didn't love her and I didn't want to lead her on. Josh's comment was met with cheering and it took everything I had not to roll my eyes. I put my arms around Savannah and whispered in her ear "Lets go home baby, save the shots for another night." She squinted up at me, her eyes shifting from left to right. I was pretty sure she could see two of me! "I wanna stay!" She pouted, looking longingly over at Josh, which stung a little. "Me too." I lied. "But I promised your parents, I'd get you home safe." She gave me a drunken grin. She had lipstick on her teeth and her mascara was smudged under her eyes. "You are so good to me baby." She giggled. She staggered towards the sofa and grabbed her purse and jacket. I wrapped an arm around her waist, taking most of her wait to prevent her from falling over. We made our way outside and into the cool air of the night. I pulled in a few deep breaths and instantly felt better. My car was parked at the curb and I was tempted to drive it. Despite the amount I had been drinking, my reflexes and reaction speeds had not been affected and I was still a safer driver than any human. But I would never risk it. Especially with a human in the car. "Honnneeeyy" whined Savannah, also eyeing up the vehicle. "I don't want to walk all the way home." For Goddess' sake it was no more than a four minute walk! I sighed at her indulgently and picked her up bridal style. She squealed with delight before throwing up all over my shoes. 'This is f*****g ridiculous' Galen, my wolf, growled in my head. 'Why are you so narky?' I asked my wolf impatiently 'You're not the one covered in vomit!' 'I want to run - And she's slowing us down!' He barked. I had immense sympathy for Galen. He was shut in more than he should be and he had every right to be pissed about it. I could hear his frustration through our link. My level of boredom at these gatherings had nothing on his, for the last hour he'd been considering chewing off his hind legs just for something to do! 'Tell you what buddy, how about we run all night long? It's Saturday tomorrow and I can sleep all day' I felt his spirits lift instantly. His tail thumped, and his tongue hung out of his mouth as he gave a wolfie grin. 'But what about her?' He asked. I looked down at Savannah who was almost unconscious in my arms. I felt a small rush of affection as I studied her face. Just because I didn't love her, didn't mean that I didn't like her. She was a lovely girl, cheating on me aside, but her head was filled with inconsequentional stuff that I didn't have any time for. My life was about something much bigger. 'I think it's safe to say that we probably won't hear anything from her until tomorrow evening.' 'Ohh, another apology phone call that I'll have to sit through. Can't wait.' Galen took great pride in his sarcasm. I got his level of frustration, truly I did. 'In just a few weeks we can leave all this behind us.' I told him. Because in a few weeks I would be 21, and I would be going back to Citrine to claim my birthright!
