Hope's Point of view
Actually, that isn't strictly true. We're not waiting for one creature, we are waiting for four.
The first time I had a 'vision' I was utterly beside myself when I awoke. The whole thing was so clear that it felt like it had happened only a few minutes before. That I had not crashed onto the blanket of leaves and bark covering the woodland floor as a newly formed black wolf, but rather I was still standing in the forest gazing towards the tree line.
Three wolves appeared through the bank of fir trees around five kilometers in front of me. They moved in unison, a choreographed sequence of steps and moves that looked effortless.
Despite the fact that they were steadily approaching me, I was not their target. They were fully focused on what was behind me. Over the years, I've tried everything possible to gain a different perspective on these visions. I have tried to look at things from a different perspective. It has never worked and Maya always trusts that the Moon Goddess lets us see only what is necessary - that anything else is a distraction that we just don't need. But it's still incredibly frustrating.
As they advance, these wolves form into a V shape. One wolf at point, closely followed by one on his left flank and the other on his right. All three are as gigantic as they are terrifying.
The first wolf, standing front and centre, was black in color, suggesting that he was an Alpha. His eyes were stunning but fierce. They held no mercy or compassion, instead they were filled with hate and rage. In their reflection I could see a blazing inferno. And somehow I knew that the wolf was not there to help any survivors, he was there to watch them burn.
To the left of the enormous wolf stood a pure white one. Her coat gave off a silver shimmer in the moonlight, like she was covered in sparkles. It reminded me of a garland for a Christmas tree.
It was so difficult to try and describe her in simple words, but the best I've been able to come up with is majestic. She was so much more than a Luna or an Alpha. She was magnificent!
Her eyes held much the same feeling as the first wolf. There wasn't a hint of forgiveness or remorse about whatever was happening behind me. Her body trembled with excitement as the fire grew and became out of control. The last thing I noticed about her eyes was that she had one blue and one brown. She possessed at least one gift from our mother and I wondered what that could be.
The final wolf was at least two feet taller than the first two. I could feel the power radiating off of him in waves, bringing forward a pre-historic compulsion in me to kneel in his presence. He was definitely Wolf royalty. His eyes were assessing, calculating and battle ready. I was absolutely certain that he could s*******r an entire pack without batting an eyelid.
And although those three wolves were undoubtedly frightening, they were not the creatures that were making my blood run cold. The thing that terrified me the most was the little girl sitting on the giant wolf's back.
If I isolated her image and discounted the look of sheer murder on her face, then I would have to say that she was the most breathtaking child I had ever seen in the whole of my life. I also knew at 13 that I would never see anyone as lovely again. She wasn't our mother, the moon Goddess, but jeez, she was pretty bloody close.
I have never been able to work out the reason why, but I have always known that she was the superior of this group. Whatever was happening, she was the one responsible for calling the shots, which was insane because she can not have been any more than five years of age. Something was burning to the ground and she was extremely happy about it. Her smile looked like one of a serial killer.
She gently squeezed her heels into the sides of the wolf she was riding. With a ferocious roar, he reared up and then charged towards the blaze. The girl let out her own blood-curdling scream and threw her head back towards the moon.
Now, call me crazy, but in my mind, if something is on fire, then you want to be running in the exact opposite direction, but instead this group galloped forwards without any thought of the danger that awaited them. I feared for none of them though, least of all the pretty young girl with perfect bunches and little mermaid PJ's. No, I feared for the individuals that had been unlucky enough to survive the fire, because they were headed towards a much more unpleasant fate. But whatever the reason for this attack, the wolves and the little girl were serving their own form of justice. I could feel it in my own thoughts.

Hours later, I awoke in our pack hospital. My screaming had caused the medical staff to run from my room at warp speed. Only my father remained and he was as far away from me as was physically possible with his back pushed up against the door despite me being in silver cuffs.
Maya had begged me to tell my father that the vision had simply been a child's nightmare after their first shift. However, I told him the truth because I was only 13 and just wanted my Daddy to hold me and tell me that everything was going to be ok. But he looked at me with pure hatred before leaving me on my own, locking the hospital door behind him.
I sobbed my heart out that night, praying to the Moon Goddess that he would come back in the morning and take me home. Love me like a father should do. Instead, I was left without food and water for three days, until, finally, the Alpha collected me and took me to my cell.
I made a vow never to cry again, but the violence that came afterwards made it very difficult for me to keep that promise.
