Hope's Point of View 'What a moron!' I muttered to Maya. 'It was our 18th birthday 16 days ago. This is the anniversary of our first phase.' I didn't question it when my birthday passed by unmentioned. It was exactly the same every year. But I had wondered whether it would be any different on my 18th. 'Let's not correct him, Hope, let the i***t say what he wants to say.' She snickered in reply. "Is it really Alpha?" I asked in mock surprise. "Yes it is!" He sounded absolutely delighted with himself. "And, as it's such a special occasion, I am going to let you sleep in your old room this evening. Isn't that marvelous?" 'What. The. f**k?' I ignored Maya and answered the question. "Wow! That's really very kind of you, Alpha, thank you." I simpered gratefully. "I'm not finished there, young lady." 'Young lady? What the hell is he up to?' "Tomorrow evening we are having guests to join us. As Beta Robert's daugher you will be invited to dine with us!" I'm sure he expected me to be happy and appreciative of this, but I'd have been more enthusiastic if he'd told me I would be attending my own cremation. I stayed silent. Alpha Donovan cleared his throat. "Now, obviously, I can't let you off of your chores tomorrow, so I still expect you to work. But you will be given an early finish, and your friend Holly is going to get you ready for dinner. Isn't that wonderful?" He started clapping his hands together like some sort of demented seal! "That sounds wonderful sir" I replied with over-inflated zealousness. I had to admit though, it would be awesome to talk to Holly again. I didn't see her very often, maybe once a month, but when I did she gave me the slightest nod of her head. She let me know that she was thinking of me, even if she couldn't express it in words. Alpha Donovan finished speaking and the room descended into silence. As I hadn't been given permission to leave, I assumed there would be more to come. The Beta could have given me this information, but then he wouldn't have had the opportunity to kick the s**t out of me, I guess. "Doesn't it," he mumbled after a long time. "You may rise and look me in the eye, child, to express your gratitude to your master." 'What a giant tit!' Maya rolled her eyes. "I can Alpha, of course, but I'm afraid at this moment in time I appear to have lost my vision." 'Yes Hope!' Maya exclaimed in delight. "Oh my darling, how unfortunate. Well, just look in my direction and imagine me in all my splendor. I look just as I did when I honored you by accompanying you on your first shift." 'That's not quite how I remember it...' I said to Maya, but she was concentrating on a more pressing issue. 'You need to slowly bring your eyes up towards him and focus on a central point just behind him. Do NOT show any emotion on your face.' I looked up and kept my eyes fixed slightly left to the Alpha. But I caught sight of his face. He was still built like a powerful wolf, but his teeth were rotten, his skin was paper thin and his hair was falling out. And my Goddess did he stink! 'Keep your wits about you. He's going to ask you some questions. I'm getting a read from his wolf. He's absolutely feral..' 'Ok. Can you please work on my hands now? It's taking everything I have not to scream.' 'I will when we're out of here. It is doing you good having something else to concentrate on.' "Now, Hope, I thought that whilst you were here we might have a bit of a chit-chat about those silly little nightmares that you've been having over the years." "I don't remember having any nightmares, Alpha." I tried. 'You suck at lying!!' Maya told me. 'Change of tact, give him as little information as possible.' "Hope, It's impolite to keep things from your Alpha, particularly when I have been so good to you." I almost burst out laughing. How had he been good to me? This used to be my home and he turned it into a prison!" "Do you mean my visions Alpha?" I asked in a gentle voice, trying to give off an air of confusion. "That's exactly what I mean, Hope." His eyes turned black in exactly the way the Beta's had earlier. I started to recite song lyrics in my head so as not to show any emotion. "I understand what you're getting at now, Alpha. To be honest, I haven't had one in about a month. But in the last one I had there were only two wolves and the child was gone." 's**t, s**t, s**t, that's a whopper of a lie, Hope. If he catches you out, we are dead meat!' I knew he'd take what I said as the truth. He was so desperate for any information I could give him, he wasn't paying much attention to the sound of my voice. "Anything else?" He was keeping his tone pleasant but the expression on his putrid face was anything but. I closed my eyes to give him the impression that I was searching for some further details. I decided to go with the opposite of what I saw. "It's raining," Lie. "There don't appear to be any leaves on the trees." Lie. "I hear a battle cry from a high-ranking wolf - I think it comes from inside of our territory. Although I am outside it!" Lie, lie, lie. "AHAHAHAHAHA" The Alpha laughed demonically. It sounded so incredibly frightening I thought I would wet my panties. 'Maya was counting backwards from one hundred to try and stop me from freaking out. "Does that please you, your Grace?" My voice wobbled as I spoke. "That's none of your business! Now f**k off out of here and get to work" I turned away from him, closed my eyes and stretched out my hands. I moved slowly forward, pretending to blindly feel around for the door. There was a loud sigh from behind me, the door was ripped open and I was pushed forcefully out of the door. I bounced down the first couple of stairs but managed to hang on to the rails to stop me falling all the way to the bottom. "I'd be so happy to kick you the entire way down." Growled the Beta. "ROBERT!" Yelled his Alpha. "You're getting off lightly." He bellowed before slamming the door. 'Your wrist is fractured' Maya commented sadly. 'It doesn't even hurt anymore, Maya' I said somberly. Tears collected in my eyes and I felt utterly defeated. We sat on the stairs quietly whilst my body mended itself. 'They are going to kill us.' It was a statement of fact, not a question that needed to be answered. 'Yeah.' agreed Maya. 'I'm not sure who these guests are, but they obviously know that the Beta has a daughter. Could be an Alpha looking for a mate, could be something completely different. My guess is they'll try and sell us off tomorrow evening, and if they don't succeed, we'll be executed the following morning. This dinner has bought us 48 hours. We need to be grateful to the Moon Goddess for small mercies.' 'So we'll need to leave tomorrow night then? After the dinner?' 'I don't think we have much choice, Hope. The visions haven't changed in months, and I don't know about you, but I am getting sick of the words "we are coming". We've waited as long as we can. We are not safe here anymore.' I nodded in agreement 'I'm done waiting too. We'll have a proper feed tomorrow, we'll be stronger and we'll be able to move faster. And may the Moon Goddess forgive us for not being strong enough to wait for her warriors.'
