Chapter 12: Dilemma (3) *** “Evan, give that back!” Evelyn instantly panicked as she reached out to get her notebook back but then something fell out of it. It was a small drawing she made. Evan put the diary back on the desk and picked up the drawing that fell out of it. “Hey… isn’t this… Skyler? Don’t tell me you have a crush on him…” Skyler was Evan’s childhood friend, they’d known each other since they were five years old, they met in kindergarten. Evelyn also hung out with them together when they were kids but she’d never really shown interest in him in the romantic sense of the word… “Not him… I just… drew someone that’s all…” Evelyn quickly denied it but she was as good of an artist as she was smart. So to Evan it was clear as day who the man in the drawing was, he knew the face of his best friend a little too well. “No need to hide it… If you like him that’s totally fine.” Evan said as he put the drawing back in the woman’s notebook then suddenly as if a light bulb had went off in his head he asked. “Do you want to hang out with him while you’re dressed as me?” “What?” Evelyn didn’t seem to understand her brother’s question. “But… wouldn’t he instantly find out it’s me?” She asked, slightly interested in the idea. “No way, I’ll just tell him I’m having a rough time or something and he’ll understand if you’re acting a bit nervous or shy or anything…” Evan said with a smile on his face. “It’s the perfect way to hang out with him again, you can play video games and stuff… You could even ask him if he likes you, you know?” “Obviously he doesn’t… he has a girlfriend after all…” Evelyn said in a more dejected manner now that she remembered that little insignificant detail about the person she liked. “What girlfriend? They broke up like three months ago. You information’s rather old.” Evan said as he extended his hand to his sister. “This is your chance to get to know him better, and to help your super awesome brother date a hottie, so you in?” He asked. “I don’t have much choice in the matter… so I’m in…” Evelyn said, a little unsure about the entire ordeal but still excited about the opportunity to spend some time with the guy she actually has an interest in. “Cool… now all we have to do is make sure mom doesn’t help you with cooking… I mean it’s obvious you won’t beat my cooking skills of death but hers well…” Evan said as he crossed his hands he seemed to be deep in thought for a moment before he broke character. “Well we’ll figure it out!” He said confidently. “You really don’t think things through now do you…” Evelyn said as she held back the urge for face palm. He brother’s always been the type of person to improvise and to jump into things without really considering any of his options. “The more you think about something you’re unsure about, the less likely you are to actually do it, especially if you’re scared you might get found out or something.” Evan said as he smiled at his sister. “I think life’s much more fun when we don’t complicate things by thinking too hard.” “That’s exactly why you’re barely passing most of your classes…” Evelyn remarked, although she didn’t want to admit it however… She did respect her brother’s way of thinking. He was confident and spontaneous, two things she wasn’t… “Well whether or not I pass the exams doesn’t matter, I’m going to go and become an actor anyways.” Evan said as he crossed his hands. He seemed to be even more self confident than before. “Yeah… I bet you’re going to be the greatest one there ever was…” Evelyn said as she pointed to the door. “Now go outside superstar.” She said with a smile. “Aye, aye captain, see you tomorrow at dinner. I’ll go tell mom and dad.” Evan said as he headed out of his sister’s room, then downstairs… “Ah, Evan I was just looking for you, I know you were super worried about your sister and everything but how about you have dinner with us?” His mother said as she urged the boy to sit down. “I’m not really hungry…” Evan said as he excused himself. ‘I literally just finished a nine course meal, how am I supposed to put anymore food in this stomach of mine?’ He thought to himself as he sat down in front of the TV and turned it one, it was a re-run of the last episodes of LPA. “Eh, Evan it’s no good to not eat!” The mother said as she took a plate of food and put it in front of her son onto the coffee table. “You better at least eat half of it.” She said. “Alright mom, I will…” Evan said as he leaned back in his sofa. ‘Guess I should just carry this up to sis later…’ He thought to himself as he watched the episodes, then he suddenly remembered. “Mom!” He called out. “Yes, honey?” The mother turned around to look at her son again. “Do you want extra?” She asked but the other shook his head. “Ah, no I was just told by Evelyn to ask you guys if it was alright for her date to come over here with his family for dinner tomorrow evening.” Evan said as he waited for his mother’s response which was a little more than he expected. “What?! The An’tone family are coming here tomorrow?! We have to get ready… What should I cook?” The mother looked around the kitchen. ‘Why does she seem more excited about this than I am…?’ Evan wondered to himself as he chuckled lightly. “Mom, don’t worry, I’ll cook dinner it’s alright for you to just look pretty… and maybe help dad look good as well.” He said. “Well your father doesn’t really have good taste in clothes… you might have a point…” The mother replied as she put the dishes away in the sink. “Listen… You’ve been really acting your best today… I know I already promised to buy you the figurine but here a little extra from me for your birthday… and if you can do me one more favor…” The mother said in a more quiet voice as she handed her son money. ‘Today’s my lucky day, isn’t it?’ Evan thought to himself then asked: “Sure, what’s up?” “I want to buy your sister something nice as well so could you figure out what she wants? If I just ask her directly she’ll say she doesn’t need anything…” The mother said as she sat down on the sofa next to her son, her voice still quiet making sure her daughter wouldn’t overhear them. “Seems easy enough. I’ll figure it out.” Evan said as he nodded his head. ‘Well… I already technically know what she wants… it’s my boy Skyler… but she probably wants something else as well like a new make-up palate or something…’ He considered. “Good, I’ll leave that to you!” The mother said in an exited voice as she leaned forward and planted a kiss on her son’s cheek, smudging her dark red lipstick on him. “Mom… that’s embarrassing don’t do it in front of the guests…” Evan said as he began rubbing away at his cheek. “Alright, alright… But you two are just so adorable!” The mother said as she squeezed her son’s other cheek and pulling it to the side, leaving it a bit red. “You two are the biggest source of my happiness, well your father included.” She said as she smiled and headed upstairs to her bedroom. “Goodnight!” “Good night!” Evan replied. ‘Wow… mom can really say the most embarrassing things without skipping a beat… what a fearsome woman…’ He thought to himself as he turned back to watching his show...
