Chapter 13: Dinner At Our Place (1)
***
The next day preparations for the two twins started early, much before either of their parents would wake up, the two siblings were already getting dressed… It took a few hours for them to choose what to wear and how to get into their clothes to begin with…
“You really wear some nice clothes…” Evan remarked as he touched the silk like blouse he was wearing it was a beige color, which was later combined with a darker brown skirt. “Though I have no idea how you move around with a skirt like that… pants are much more comfortable.”
“I just prefer skirts…” Evelyn remarked as she finished up with setting the make-up and the wig. “If we keep doing this for a while longer I might give up on engineering school and become a make-up artist.” She said.
“It doesn’t really matter what you chose to do, since you’re good at everything.” Evan remarked as he stood up, he was now fully dressed and ready.
While preparations for Evelyn were still underway. She had already put her chest binder, which wasn’t covering a lot to begin with but it helped overall make her shape a bit more flat than it was. She wore baggy clothes to make her hips and the overall shape of her body less noticeable. While Evan wore some padding to account for his lack of shape…
There was still time until they guests arrived so they headed back downstairs and began cooking…
“You sure you don’t need help with anything? Sitting here and watching you do everything seems a bit off…” Evan said as he watched his sister move about in the kitchen as if she didn’t even need to keep her eyes open to know where everything was. The girl had been taught how to cook by her father who enjoyed doing it as a past time. Now Evelyn was more or less a chief compared to everyone else in their household.
Then yet you’d only need to make something that is slightly edible to pass off as a good cook when compared to the mother and son duo, who couldn’t tell a fork from a spatula. Or rather their problem wasn’t that they were incapable of separating ingredients, it was that they had the unique ability to make said ingredients inedible, whether it would be by over or undercooking them, or adding flavors that couldn’t possibly match one another.
“I’d rather do this on my own to assure it’s not going to give anyone a stomach ache… Dad had to take medicine yesterday, he barely recovered from the dish you two made.” Evelyn said as she continued making her way back and forth through the kitchen, the stoves were on, the chopping board was out, there was chicken cooking in the oven. Evelyn was swiftly preparing the side dishes while the main was cooking.
“Poor dad…” Even Evan felt pity towards his love struck father. There were few things the man wouldn’t do to make his wife happy, thus getting food poisoning was something he was going to do with a smile on his face if need be.
“Hey… about your friend… did you tell him?” Evelyn said, as her hand movement slowed down as she was making the green salad.
“Sky? Yeah, I texted him yesterday that I’m still bumped out about my break up and all that jazz… He said he’d come over here tomorrow to play games so you better get ready.” Evan said as he smiled at his sister, he looked a bit smug while doing so.
“Wait… tomorrow? You saying we have to change places again so soon?” Evelyn said in a quiet voice. It wasn’t that she wasn’t excited to see the guy she likes but rather surprised that it would be so soon if anything.
“Eh? But it’s not like it’s a big deal, some make-up, some of this some of that and boom we’re each other.” Evan said as he crossed his hands. “Besides… You’re so shy and quiet around others… It’s a perfect way for you to get over that.”
“I can’t get over it so easily… if I could, I would have done so already…” Evelyn said as she turned off the stove.
“Sorry… I didn’t mean to blame you or anything…” Evan noticed his sister’s mood shifting and apologized. One thing the two twins didn’t do to each other was hurt one another.
“I know, I know I’m shy and I know there’s nothing to be afraid of but… when Skyler’s around me… I feel a bit calmer, maybe safer for some reason. So I’ll be fine around him…” Evelyn said, her words not completely making sense to her brother.
“Hey Eve… Could you explain that to me again? How does having someone around you, make you feel calm?” Evan asked as he tilted his head to the side.
“It’s like… When I’m anxious… my heart starts beating uncontrollably and my breath gets cut short, I start feeling like everything around me isn’t quite in place… But when I’m next to Sky it just feels like… like…” Evelyn turned around to her brother. “It feels like everything’s going to be alright as long as I have this person next to me. That’s all…”
“Hm… I still don’t quite get why he said that to me…” Evan said as he stood up from his chair. “I guess… He’s fallen for me for real.” He said with a rather smug look on his face.
“I bet he is… I mean just look at that magnetic charm of yours~” Evelyn said sarcastically as she turned off the oven and opened it up slightly. The food was pretty much ready and their parents were coming down stairs.
“What is all this? You’ve cooked already…” The mother said as she looked at the finished dishes. “I wanted to help you, at least a little…” Both of them had slept till late that day then upon waking up and seeing the time began dressing up appropriately. It took a while for the mother to choose clothes for her husband who was never really in the habit of dressing well. It was already nighttime by the time all of this had taken place.
“No worries mom… Evan did a great job at cooking.” Evan said as he swung his hand over his sister’s shoulder.
“Hm?” The mother tilted her head to the side. “Babies… you both seem a bit different today somehow…” She remarked noticing something wasn’t quite as usual.
“What do you mean, mom?” Evan asked in a confused voice, but he was putting up an act. ‘Eve… if we show hesitation here they’ll figure us out immediately, so-’ He was thinking in words as if trying to telepathically communicate with his sister, however she then did something unexpected…
