Chapter 8: Why is he so hot?! (2)
***
“Oh, yes I am!” Evan said as he smiled and shook the man’s hand. ‘Alright… stay focused… so what if he’s hot? Not like that matters, I have to act a bit annoyed since he was late.’ He thought to himself as he spoke up. “I thought you weren’t going to show up just now-”
“Again… I’m really sorry… I had to drive my sister for her appointment and the way here was longer than anticipated…” Derek apologized once again as he felt the other’s hand. “You’re so cold… You must have waited for me outside… Let’s go warm up in the car…” He said as he lead the other by the hand.
‘Is this man a saint or something?! Well hopefully not… but anyways… not only did he go out of his way for his family but he was only late with 10 minutes and yet he apologizes so earnestly to me… it would be a bit sad… that is… if he wasn’t so darn cute while doing it…’ Evan thought to himself as he allowed the man to lead him by the hand.
They drove for a while, it was a restaurant pretty close by, it wasn’t particularly fancy or luxurious however it had a decent atmosphere that most people find rather plesurable. ‘Hm… is he actually a cheapskate?’ Evan wondered to himself, in a way he had expected something a bit more extravagant considering the man had money to spare.
“Welcome Mr. An’tone… We’ve been expecting you.” The waiter lowers his head in a slight bow as he leads them to the table. They walk down a corridor until they arrive in front of a door which had a sign ‘Reserved’ Plastered on it and the number 17 on the door frame. “Right this way please…” He continued in the same elegant tone.
‘A private room? I guess the guy isn’t as cheap as I thought he was… and damn… this restaurant is more specious on the inside than it looks from out there… not that I’d ever think I’d get the chance to have dinner here…’ Evan thought to himself as he looked down at his dress. ‘I guess… it’s a privilege to be born a woman…’
“Evelyn? You look a bit upset… do you not like the room?” Derek asked with a concerned look on his face as they were seated.
“No, I like it, I just wasn’t expecting something like this… it’s a first for me…” Evan said as he looked through the menu. Everything on it looked great but the problem was he didn’t know half the dishes, not that he was ever a picky eater but even someone like him didn’t want to risk ordering something inedible. “You know… I’ll leave ordering to you.”
“Sure, then… we’ll both have tonight’s special.” Derek said as he gave back the menu to the waiter. “As for drinks, which do you prefer red wine, or white? Or maybe you don’t drink?” He asked as he turned back to Evan who had a rather shy look on his face.
“Whichever you choose, they all sound like great options.” Evan said with a smile as he pulled his skirt down a bit, he felt weird sitting in a chair with it.
“Then let’s do both…” Derek said and the waiter nodded, then went into the kitchen to give the order to the cooks.
‘Alright… he’s handsome, polite and spends money on me… How am I supposed to make this guy look bad when he’s perfect? Only if I wasn’t in a dress at the moment I’d already be flirting with him… no, wait I’m not here for this…’ Evan calmed himself down and remembered his objective although it was difficult.
“Tell me… why did you decide to go on a date with me? It seems a little out of the blue and my parents mentioned we were in camp together?” Evan asked as he straightened his posture, the waiter was now back there again serving them wine.
“Well… you probably don’t remember things that are so far back… I mean it must have been over five years ago or so… but…” Derek looked down at his wine glass as he brought it closer to him. “I was never the type of person to get along with others… My parents sent me on that camp so I could make friends but I got isolated instead… then there was you the only person that spoke to me…”
‘This guy really fell hard didn’t he? But there’s something off about this entire thing… Evelyn doesn’t actually like speaking to others much less making friends, she can barely stand me much less anyone else…’ Evan thought to himself but he listened intently as the other continued.
“I remember how you walked up to me and asked me if I wanted to watch an episode of LPA… you were even wearing a shirt of the series, though it was rather brand new at the time…” Derek explained, as he spoke he had such a childlike pleased look on his face. As if this was the most treasured memory he had.
‘Yeah… definitely not Eve… there’s absolutely no way she’d go out of her way to speak with anyone much less… wait… did he just say to watch LPA together?’ Evan suddenly looked surprised, his eyes widened a bit.
“Do you remember it?” Derek asked with great interest as he noticed the other man’s reaction.
“Ha… faintly yeah… you were that boy with the blue hat and white T-shirt… you were sitting all alone on the stairs next to…” Evan couldn’t believe it himself but he actually remembered meeting someone around five years ago. ‘This guy… he didn’t meet my sister on that camp… it was me…’ He thought to himself.
“I’m so happy you do… I was afraid you wouldn’t and it would be awkward…” Derek was fidgeting a bit, he looked nervous, his face with a faint tint of pink visible under the white light that was emitted by the lights on the ceiling.
‘Damn it… isn’t life ironic? So this guy was supposed to go out on a date with me all along… and I just so happen to come here instead of my sister which he thought was me…’ Evan thought to himself as he held back the urge to sigh…
