Ivi
I thought for a second what to do and since I had almost reached Jixen and Myra's room anyway, I decided to talk to them. I was walking down the long darkened corridor when I heard the noise of the connected and much smaller corridor leading to a laundry room. I strained my ears and continued to hear the noise. I turned and walked cautiously down the hall, distinguishing the silhouettes of the doors, despite the darkness. The lights in this part weren't on, and I wasn't sure where was the switch. I was just standing in front of the laundry door when it opened and a stranger, male, started to come out. We stared cautiously at each other, and for a moment I thought I saw the anxiety in his eyes.
"Yeah?" His polite and calm voice surprised me and I began to stutter, realizing how rude and suspicious I must look to him.
"Sorry. Are you from the cleaning service?" His eyes half-closed and I thought I saw something strange in them again.
"Kind of. I made a mess and came to take something to clean it." He chuckled and took another step toward me, closing the door behind him.
"Oh, sorry. I'm in your way. Just a second." I leaned to the wall to make it possible for him to walk by me and so he did. I keep staring at his back to the moment I lost him. Turning around I felt nervous as I grabbed the lock, ready to open the door. Looking constantly over my shoulder, I opened and quickly turned on the light inside. Empty. There were two washing machines and dryers and several shelves above them with detergents and other small things. There was a vacuum cleaner and a mop that was still in the package, apparently recently replaced.
Strange. Everything seemed untouched. On the way out, I turned off the light and it dawned on me that when he came out, he didn't need to turn it off because it wasn't lit inside. What could he do in the dark in a laundry room? I should have asked him for his name. I closed the door behind me and hurried back to the main corridor. Fortunately, I didn't notice anyone else and knocked on Jixen's door. Seconds later, he opened it and let me in. There were three beds inside, which confirmed my suspicion that they had to share a room with someone else.
"Where is Myra?"
"She is in a room on the upper floor."
"Why?"
"Yesterday they moved two males here and took her up. A female can't be in a room with another male, other than her mate."
"Yes, of course. I'm trying to sign you a new home but it'll take some time."
"Don't worry. It's not that bad, we can wait." We talked a little more about their experience here so far.
"The good news is you'll be assigned a job next week." After I explained to him what would be the procedure, I left him in his room and went in search of Myra. There was no one in and I left the floor unsatisfied.
Loren, can I go home? She had blocked the mind-link which meant she was too busy, I hoped everything was fine.
As I walked by the management office, I got an idea. Alpha had warned me that he didn't want to communicate with me and that I should turn to someone else If I need something. His two assistants were in the lobby of the office, and I usually turned my questions to them. I went inside and saw only Donnie inside. Exactly who I needed.
He was looking busy with some documents and I knocked on the door lightly. Don looked up and smiled.
"What's up, Ivy. Do you need something?"
"Hey, I hope you don't mind, you look pretty busy."
"Yeah. Finn's gone, he'll be back later, and I have some of his urgent work to do. So what do you need?"
"I wondered, Is it possible to switch rooms with a certain couple? They're mates and need some private space. And I really don't need a whole house."
"That 'whole' house is just like a small apartment."
"But I'm still having a private bedroom and I don't need one."
He looked at me skeptically.
"Even If I could do it, are you sure you want to switch your place for a room you'll have to share with strangers? Come on, Ivi. We all need our space. Think about it some more and you'll see I'm right. You're gonna hate it after a couple of days. "
"I'm barely getting home."
"But the weather is changing and winter is coming. You'll dream of closing your mouth on time when you had to. You'll have to spend all your time closed in a small room with Goddess knows who."
"You'll take me in."
"Yeah, Brad would be happy about it."
"Brad is too jealous for his own good. Ok, I'll think about it more but please, take it seriously, I'm not going to change my mind."
I smelled Gideon's masculine scent, and seconds later he flew into the lobby, frowning straight at me, and then entering his office.
"Woo-hoo."
"What?" I turned my head to look at Don and he grinned.
"I'm seeing the sparks right here."
"What? Oh, yes. If looks could kill, I'll be..." He laughed and I looked at him annoyed for interrupting me.
"Not that kind of spark, darling. Uh-uh. He wants to do something else with you."
"Has anyone ever told you how crazy you are? He hates my guts."
"But he wants you with the same strength." "Nope, how can you hate someone and want him at the same time? You just always think about sex." Don laughed out loud but a second later froze, staring at the desk. He then nodded silently for me to go.
I went outside, looking around, hoping to see Myra but no such luck. After Alpha returned to the office, I decided to try mind-link Loren again.
Is it safe now? What happened?
It's safe, this time we fought with rogues. They came out of nowhere and seemed to have a particular purpose. They almost got to the houses.
Oh, that's bad.
Sam, one of the guards left his post for unknown reasons and that helped the rogues enter. Anyway, go home but you know you should always be careful.
I'll be, thanks.
The thought of rogues having almost reached the houses was not very pleasant, especially when you live in a house in the outermost line. Alone.
I really should exchange my place with Myra's.
