Charlotte's sudden marriage shocked the Smiths, especially Linda, who was extremely enraged by what Charlotte had done!
Natalie and Charlotte were both her granddaughters, but she just favored Natalie.
Charlotte was a poor girl who lost her parents when she was a kid. After that, Charlotte didn't talk much and was indifferent to everything. Linda disliked Charlotte. But Natalie was different. She was lively, well-behaved, obedient, and always listened to Linda, which made Linda like her a lot.
"You're married to Gerald!" George recognized the man on the marriage certificate.
Seeing the marriage certificate, Linda suddenly snatched it and tried to tear it up.
Luckily, George reacted quickly and took it back.
"What are you doing? "
"I can't let her keep this! Look what she's done!"
"But even if you tear it up, they are still legally married!"
"But she stole Natalie's man! Geeze! She is not my granddaughter anymore. Charlotte, get out now!"
George got angry and roared, "No one will leave here!"
Linda also cast an angry glance at George. Finally, Linda turned around furiously and walked away.
George and Charlotte were alone in the living room.
Charlotte lowered his head and whispered, "Grandpa, I'm so sorry."
George sighed and patted her head lightly. "Silly girl, you don't have to apologize to me."
"No, that's my mistake. This happened so fast. I didn't tell you in advance. I'm sorry!"
"It's not your fault. Tell me, what happened between you two?"
Charlotte and Gerald had rarely seen each other. Even when she occasionally visited the Millers and stayed at their house, they rarely spoke to each other.
She seldom mentioned Gerald to me, so how did she marry him in a sudden? George asked himself.
Charlotte didn't tell George every detail, only the part they went to the Office of the City Clerk.
"What about him? Did he do it of his own free will?"
"I don't know..."
When George saw Charlotte's sad face, he knew immediately that Gerald must be forced by his parents.
"You like him, don't you?"
Charlotte didn't answer.
"I know you very well, honey. If you didn't like him, you wouldn't have married him. But, you know, he may not understand why you did that."
"I know, but I just want to give it a shot. If it doesn't work out, we'll get a divorce then."
"For God's sake! Charlotte, you can't joke about marriage! You can't think about divorce right after you get married!"
"Grandpa, I'm here to pack my stuff. I'm moving in with the Millers tonight." Charlotte shifted the topics.
Charlotte went back to her room and packed her things into her suitcase. She didn't have much to take because most of her things were left at school.
George looked at Charlotte's busy figure and didn't know how to comfort her. He knew that Charlotte would be devastated if he opposed their marriage.
I can't believe I have never known that Charlotte had a crush on Gerald. I don't know what my two granddaughters see in him. He thought jealously.
"Charlotte, I'll always be on your side. If he dares to bully you, just tell me, and I'll seek justice for you!"
"Thank you, Grandpa. Well, can you say something nice to my grandma and cheer her up?"
"Ignore her, dear. She's being too partial to Natalie!"
"Well, it's my fault to get Gerald to marry me."
"No, Charlotte, you have done nothing wrong! If he dares to fail you, I'll not let him off!"
She had the urge to cry. "Grandpa, you are so nice to me!"
George was touched too. "You know, the Millers are good people who won't mistreat you. But, life will be tough once you're married. If Gerald liked you, you'd have an easier time. What a pity that..."
Gerald likes Natalie, and he marries Charlotte like a fool. Charlotte will suffer the most in this marriage. George thought.
"It's okay, Grandpa. You don't have to worry about me. I'll take care of myself. And I'll come back when I'm free!"
Charlotte then went back to the Millers with her simple luggage.
She used to stay here a few times as a guest. Bruce and Mia liked her very much, so they always invited her to stay at their home.
Now Charlotte became a Miller.
"Charlotte! Welcome home. Give your luggage to Henry. He'll take them to the bedroom for you. From today on, you and Gerald will live together," Mia said happily and welcomed Charlotte.
Because it was the wedding day of Gerald and Charlotte, Mia had specially asked the housekeeper and maid to decorate their room.
Gerald's room looked completely different. Beautiful flowers and rose petals were all over his bed, many small romantic candles on the carpet, and heart-shaped pink balloons on the walls.
Charlotte sighed in her heart. If Gerald sees his room decorated like this, he would be furious.
"Charlotte, we didn't expect you two would get married so soon! We just did some simple decoration for your room."
"Mia, Gerald will be upset when he sees this."
"I don't care what he thinks. Let's focus on your wedding ceremony, okay? We were supposed to talk to your grandfather about this, but..."
Charlotte actually didn't want that. First, she didn't think Gerald would agree with it. Second, she was still a student and didn't graduate yet. So she refused.
Mia had to give up the idea of holding a wedding ceremony for now. She thought they could hold it later after they fell in love with each other.
Mia had wanted to invite Charlotte's grandparents over for a meal, but Charlotte refused.
Charlotte was aware that her grandma was furious about her marriage with Gerald, so it wasn't a good time for them to meet for the moment.
In the evening, Mia asked the maid to prepare a nice dinner. She called Gerald many times, and finally, he came home.
As soon as he walked into the house, he grabbed Charlotte's hand, led her into the bedroom, and shut the door heavily!
Charlotte was being pinned against the door by him, with her back pressing against it. She felt her heart skip a beat and saw a frigid and enraged Gerald staring at her.
"Charlotte, good for you! Well, are you satisfied now?" Gerald questioned Charlotte, gritting his teeth.
She knew that Gerald must have thought she got into his bed on purpose. She knew it was useless to argue with him, so she kept quiet.
However, her silence made Gerald think she had admitted it. Gerald was so pissed off that he laughed out loud instead.
He took out the marriage certificate and tore it in half in front of her!
"I won't admit our marriage. Charlotte! You're being naive!"
Gerald thought Charlotte would get angry soon, but to his surprise, she was expressionless and didn't even move a bit, just like a piece of wood. She watched him tear up the marriage certificate without saying a word!
Anyway, she didn't respond to him, making him unable to vent his anger.
This woman really has a knack for making me angry! Gerald thought.
