Chapter 2 Steal Natalie's Man

1209 Words
The car stopped in front of the Marriage Bureau. Charlotte stepped out of the car. She never thought she would get married so young, not to mention Gerald as her groom! If it was in the past, she would never believe it. Worrying that they would not truly get married, the Millers insisted on coming alone. Besides, they seemed to keep Gerald from going back on his word. "I have already made an appointment for you. So all you need to do is register." For fear that Gerald would escape, Bruce even called a friend who worked here, asking him to make an appointment for them. That way, Gerald could marry Charlotte as soon as they arrived here. Gerald sneered. He wasn't the kind of guy to backtrack. Then, he was walking up the stairs in silence. "Charlotte, let's go," Mia said. The staff members were very enthusiastic. Charlotte knew that it was because of the Miller family's wealth. The Miller family was one of the wealthiest in Chicago. Bruce was the richest man in the city, with almost half of the city's property belonging to them. After the staff members met Charlotte and Gerald, they praised them as if they were a perfect match. Hearing their words, Gerald, who was already unhappy, became even angrier! The photographer kept asking them to smile and get closer when taking pictures. However, Gerald acted as if he hadn't heard him, and his face remained cold. As for Charlotte, she just smiled politely. The photographer had no choice but tried to pick the best one. He found that Gerald's expression was the same, and Charlotte was barely smiling. He even wondered if the couple was truly here to get married or not. Gerald got impatient after a while. As he took the form and was about to sign his name, he heard Charlotte, standing next to him, say, "Hey, you know, it's not too late for you to backtrack." Hearing this, he was so angry that he even wanted to leave immediately. "I'm not going to regret it," he said coldly. In the end, both of them signed the papers. The staff member handed them their marriage certificate. Gerald put the marriage certificate in his pocket without even looking at it. He turned around and walked away. Mia finally breathed a sigh of relief. She had been worried that Gerald would leave before he signed. After leaving the Marriage Bureau building, Mia said, "It's a big day today, guys! Let's celebrate it tonight. Charlotte, Gerald will take you home later. Pack up your things and move in with us." "No, I'm busy now," Gerald said without looking back. "Well, that's okay. I'll just go back and pack myself. I don't have a lot of stuff." "Are you guys happy now?! I have things to do. I'm off." Gerald then got in his car and left. "Charlotte, please don't mind. He's always been so rude. He'll find out that you are a good girl later." "Mia, it's okay." "Well, I think you can call me mom now." Charlotte was wondering what Gerald's parents had said to him. Gerald was rebellious about getting married at first, but after he had a talk with them, he actually agreed. Even though Mia had asked her opinion then, she hadn't thought about marrying Gerald. She knew Gerald didn't like her, but Natalie. Even if they got married, they would only live a miserable life because they did not love each other. However, when Charlotte saw Natalie's angry face, she immediately said "yes" as if she were out of control! She just wanted to make Natalie and Gerald unhappy!. However, Charlotte did not expect that she would really make it, and the whole thing looked like a miserable farce... "Charlotte, you really don't need us to go back with you? I think you should tell your grandfather about this...." "Well, don't worry about it. I'll tell him myself. I'll come back as soon as I finish packing my stuff." From this day on, Charlotte was one of the Millers... This fact made her feel a little weird. "Well, call me if you need any help." Charlotte waved her hand and then took a taxi and left. Mia sighed and asked Bruce, "Honey, do you think we did it right?" "Don't worry. They're already married, so there's no point in talking about it anymore. As for what will happen later, it's up to them." "Charlotte is such a nice girl. Why doesn't Gerald like her?" Mia had known Natalie and Charlotte when they were kids. For some unknown reasons, she liked Charlotte much more. However, both Gerald and his grandmother preferred Natalie. Charlotte took an hour train ride to her grandpa's place. Charlotte saw her grandma, Linda, pruning the roses in the yard as soon as she entered. Seeing Charlotte, Linda immediately dropped the scissors in her hand and stood up. She questioned her, "I heard you had been married to Gerald, right?" Charlotte said "yes" in a low voice. Linda was so angry that she slapped Charlotte! She hit her so hard that it made Charlotte's head tilt! "Dear God! You're such a b***h! How dare you steal Natalie's man!" Linda cursed in annoyance. Then, when she raised her hand and tried to hit Charlotte again, someone grabbed her wrist. "What are you doing?!" "Let her tell you what she did!" Linda said. "Charlotte has always been a good girl. No matter what she did, you shouldn't slap her." "She deserves it!" George, Charlotte's grandfather, let go of his hand and said, "Stop it!" He walked toward Charlotte and said, "Sweety, does it hurt? Let me see." Her face is swollen! Linda is so cruel. George thought. "I'm fine, Grandpa." "Let me get some ice for you. Otherwise, your pretty face will swell up. Come on. Let's go inside." As George applied the ice to Charlotte's face, he blamed Linda, saying, "Why did you hit her? She's an adult. She can take responsibility for what she did." Linda didn't feel she was wrong and defended herself, "Natalie called me and said that Charlotte slept with Gerald last night. Charlotte even forced Gerald to marry her! My God, this is so unbelievable! How come she stole Natalie's man! You know, it's all because you have doted on her too much." George froze for a moment, then recalled that Gerald was the boy Natalie fancied. He had met Gerald a few times and remembered he was a handsome young man. Gerald seemed aloof, but he treated Natalie well. "Charlotte, tell me, what is going on?" Charlotte had to be honest, "Grandpa, I got married." "Look at that! She didn't even tell you before she got married. She's so spoiled! And, the young man she married is from the Millers. Natalie was crying so hard that she couldn't breathe when she called me. Ah, my poor Natalie!" Linda immediately said. George ignored Linda and just asked Charlotte, "Are you really married?" She nodded, "H'm, here's my marriage certificate." She took the marriage certificate out of her pocket and placed it in front of George. George flipped it open and saw a picture of her and Gerald together. It was on today.
