"You're new to the job. Why not start with some simple targets? There are a few small companies. Let's see if you can get us a contract," Thomas said. He was the employee Dale had assigned to teach Charlotte.
After Dale spoke to Charlotte yesterday, he never returned to the office. He just asked Thomas to teach Charlotte and give her tasks to do.
Charlotte took the file and said, "Sure, thanks."
"Work through the profile first. Let me know if you have any doubts."
Thomas shook his head.
He knew he wasn't helping. He could only rig her job as ordered.
Charlotte got herself some water and then started to read.
Thomas called them small companies, but they were, in fact, hundred-employee large ones that ran pretty well. The only thing was that they had never cooperated with Miller Group yet.
The sales department was meant to run around to get contracts. The entire perimeter was mapped out long ago, so she didn't have to backtrack. Consequently, the three companies Thomas said were rather far.
Charlotte spent her time carefully reading the profile. After she had everything, she took her bag and was about to leave.
"Charlotte, where are you going?" a colleague asked.
"Carson Group."
The colleague lifted his brows, "...Well, good luck with that."
"Thanks. Bye!"
It wasn't until Charlotte walked out of the office that everyone started to talk about her.
" Carson Group for a newbie? Seriously?"
"And she's a 20-year-old college kid that's visibly a green hand!"
"They're tossing her in flames!"
Someone sighed and said, "What a shame! She is pretty."
Charlotte, of course, heard none of this. She took the subway and followed the map to Carson Group.
Carson Group mainly produced construction materials. Miller Group branched into real estate, so they needed those materials. Technically, it could have been a win-win for both.
Yet Charlotte knew from her reading that Miller Group already had stable suppliers. They didn't need a new one at all. She knew something was odd, or Carson Group would have long started cooperating with Miller Group.
She then figured this company either showed little value or proved too annoying.
When the receptionist learned that Charlotte was from Miller Group, she politely invited her upstairs.
"May I talk to someone in charge of sales?" Charlotte said.
The receptionist invited her to the conference room and made her a coffee, "One minute. Someone will be right over."
Charlotte could tell the receptionist smiled weirdly, but she didn't know what was going on.
Minutes later, a chubby and balding mid-aged man came in.
"What a pleasure! I'm Francis Moore, and you?"
She shook his hand gently. " Charlotte, Charlotte Anderson."
"Miss Anderson. My honor to work with you," Francis said.
Francis kept scanning Charlotte up and down and nodded. He could tell she was nothing but a poor newbie with her head still in the clouds.
"And what brought you here, Miss Anderson?"
"Well, I'm a sales representative of Miller Group. I'm here to seek possible cooperation."
" Miller Group, you said? Never knew your department has got young blood like you!"
He meant to say he knew every single one in that department.
"Let's just be straight here. We've had way too many talks. We both know we can never work together. But thanks for coming by anyway."
Charlotte realized he was slippery by the way he started the conversation with a refusal square in her face.
She started to wonder why he tried to do so...
"You know, it could be win-win cooperation with us. Miller Group is a leading...."
Francis cut her off, "True. Miller Group is great. But not just everybody wants to work with you."
"Is it about price?"
"Is that your call? You're new to the job," Francis scoffed.
"Sales ain't easy for the newbies, and I get it. No orders for the month, and you're broke," Francis said as he moved closer, trying to lay his hands on her, "You know what? You still do have a chance..."
Charlotte was shocked! She immediately stood up, "There's no need, then. Goodbye!"
He grabbed her wrist. "Hold up. I can cut you some slack."
"Not interested! " she sneered. She needed nobody's charity at all!
" So, you don't want the cash?"
"None of your business!" Charlotte said and immediately shook off his hand.
"Miss Andersen, I know you're new to the job. Nobody even liked you, or they wouldn't have sent you here. We're a tough company to work with," Francis said.
Charlotte immediately realized that Thomas had lied to her, "Then we won't work together!"
"How about this? You'll dine out with me, and then you'll get our contract."
She satirized him, "You used to treat those saleswomen the same way, didn't you?"
Charlotte finally understood why the receptionist and other employees acted weird when they saw her. It turned out that Francis was a despicable p*****t!
"One always gotta sacrifice for his work." Francis still didn't give up. Charlotte was the most beautiful woman he had ever met. And now she was so fresh, which made her more attractive!
At that time, a man came in.
"Mr. Moore, please stop badgering our employee. Otherwise, we will sue you for s****l harassment."
