"I can't believe you're leaving so soon" I croaked
"I'm not dying, Leigh. I'll be back often now that I know how to get here by bus. You'll get tired of seeing me"
"What makes you think i'm not tired already?" I asked, serious.
She pushed me playfully and then we hugged. "I'll see you soon"
My mom waited with the door open for Ashlee. When Ashlee exited and went to her car, she turned to me.
"I'm sorry about what happened, mom"
"Your father asked me not to speak about it, so let's just forget it and move on, alright?"
"Okay"
"I will be back in about two hours from dropping Ashlee home, take care of your brother until then."
I nodded and she closed the door. I went to the living room and sat next to Nate as he watched TV. I can't believe it's Sunday night. I will have to face Trent tomorrow, not to mention Xavier. I groaned to my self.
"You okay?" Nathan asked me, looking up concerned
I laughed and kiss his forehead "I'm fine"
---
I sat at the lunch table between Jessie and Sean, making sure that I wouldn't see or have to talk to Xavier. I've been dodging the halls all day. I've even made it a mission to be a bit late to every class to avoid running into any of them. I'm sure Trent wouldn't talk to me or care if he saw me in the halls but Xavier would stop me. Definitely.
"Why's Trent staring at you?" Jessie asked me, her voice laced with curiosity
"He's not" I told her, keeping my eyes on my lunch.
"Actually Leigh, I think he is" Sean said, nudging me in my side
I looked up at him, slapping away his hands, my face serious "you're delusional"
"Then why aren't you looking at see if he actually is" Sean smirked
"Because I don't have to... I know what I know" I stated, turning back to my lunch.
I could feel his stare the whole lunch. It was like he was trying to burn a hole in the side of my face but I was determined not to look up. I didn't know what his problem was but I didn't care.
When the bell rang, I threw my trash away and headed to class. When I saw Xavier in the hallway, I did a 180 and headed the other way.
"Stop" His voice was firm.
I stopped walking and rolled my eyes. I stood where I was until Xavier stood in front of me.
He raised his eyebrow at me and stared in my face. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing" I shrugged
"So you just suddenly start to ignore me for no reason?" He folded his arms over his chest
"Who said I was ignoring you?" I asked pretending to be puzzled
"Don't play dumb with me, Leigh"
"Who said I'm playing?" I asked backing up. I realized I just called myself dumb but in this situation, I'd cut my hand off If it meant a way out.
His blue eyes lowered, glaring at me. His mouth in a hard line, his shoulders back
"Leigh, I don't Intend on asking you again"
I got scared. I took a deep breath.
"It's nothing. I just didn't know Trent was seriously covered in women... well... I did..." I was talking to myself
"What are you talking about?"
"The blond... even though that doesn't say much... listen, I got myself in this. I knew he had different girls but I still wanted to try... I don't even know why I'm upset with you." I hugged him and before he could hug me back, I pulled away "sorry. I gotta get to class. I'll talk to you later" I blabbered. I knew I wasn't making sense.
I ran down the hall before he could respond. When I entered into class, I hesitated. No, no one was in my seat, but Trent wasn't in his either. He sat in the one in front of mine with his feet up on the one beside him.
He pat my desk, signaling for me to take my seat, when our eyes finally met. I heart jumped out through my mouth. What does he want? I asked myself as I slowly made my way to the back. Did I say something about him again to anyone? My mind wasn't working. I couldn't remember if I did.
I sat down and finally came face to face with him. I could feel a few eyes staring at us.
"What's bothering you?" His face was impassive.
"Why do you care?" I wondered. I really did want to know even though the words came out a bit harsh.
He sighed as he closed his eyes and re-opened it. "I thought we were pass all these hostilities Leigh"
"Looks like you thought wrong" I murmured back looking down at my fingers. I had no reason to be upset. Trent and I weren't dating, I'm not sure we were even friends. I really don't know what to tell him because it was none of my business. I just wanted to mope around eating ice cream and watching romance movies when I got home to mask my reality. Never thought anyone would give a s**t.
"I'm not going to argue with you. This is what I meant by hot tempered" His eyes looked annoyed and frustrated.
"Listen Trent, I get it, I'm not your type. You like tall twenty year old blonds who have big boobs and pretty faces" I murmured back, finally telling him my mind when I saw Mr. Pier walking into the room.
"Is that what all this is about?" he asked, his lips in a straight line. What I would give to touch them again...
"Okay settle down, we are here to learn, not socialize." Mr. Pier stood at the front of the class waiting for everyone's attention. "Mr. Logan, feet"
Trent took his feet off the seat beside him and placed it on the floor, all while still staring at me. He looked upset, maybe even angry. I bit my lip nervously hoping the conversation was over and I could just get through this class and my next one, go home, and soak in my tub for hours.
When the class finally begun, he turned around. I sighed in relief.
When the bell rang, I quickly made my way to English class, happy I got away. It was smooth sailing from here.
When the final bell rang, I ran to my locker and shoved my things inside.
"What's the hurry?"
I screamed suddenly, placing my hand on my chest. Sean looked at me as if I had suddenly sprouted two heads.
"What's with you? I think you should lay off the coffee for awhile"
"Sorry" I breathed, turning back to my locker "you scared me, thought you were someone else"
"You mean Trent?" He smiled
"No... why would you think that?" I asked, looking at him.
"Because he's behind you"
My heart stopped working. "Why would you say that. You know I hate horror movies and now I'm scared to turn around"
He laughed "Sorry"
I turned back to my locker as I suddenly got enclosed by two hands placed on either side of my face aganist the lockers. I moved my eyes from the right then to the left without moving my head.
Slowly closing my locker door, I turned around and came inches away from emerald green eyes. I wish I could disappear through my locker or melt. He towered over me, his face impassive. My knees buckled at the proximity, my panties becoming wet.
"Sean" Trent acknowledged, keeping his eyes on me.
"Trent" Sean smirked, giving me a wink before he walked off
Traitor! When the going its tough... Sean runs away. I wish I could follow him... I swallowed the lump in my throat.
"You're jealous of my step-mother?" His voice was dangerously low... and sexy.
"What are you talking about?" I whispered, trying to stay up and not fall to the ground.
"Isabel. The blond. She's married to my father"
"You don't have to lie Trent. It's none of my business"
"Are you really this stubborn?"
"Why would your dad be married to someone that young?"
"Why do you think I live alone, Leigh. This is what I mean by ignorant. You never wait for information before you come to a conclusion."
"Okay, I get it. Are we done here?" I questioned. His face was still only two inches away from mine and I don't think my heart can continue to have him this close without being able to do anything...
"You're so frustrating" He still didn't move.
I bit my lip to hold back my laugh which made him smile. It tugged on my heart strings. Not being able to control me self anymore, I moved my hand up to his face. I used my index finger and slowly ran it along his bottom lip, still maintaining eye contact. He caught my finger between his teeth and began to lightly nibble on it. A small moan escaped my lips. After awhile his lips parted, freeing my finger.
I placed my hand against his hard chest as he wraps one arm around me, the other still against the locker. My breathing was short and rapid, my mind blank. We stared at each other intensely for minutes.
"I see you guys have made up" Xavier said, resting against the locker beside us. Trent released me and I went back to leaning against the locker for support trying to catch my breath.
People were still in the hallway, my face suddenly began to heat up from embarrassment.
"She thought Isabel and I..."
"You're kidding me." Xavier's eyes glared at me and I looked down at my fingers "how the hell did I get in the middle of that... what do I have to do with any of Trent's girls?"
Trent gave him a 'what the hell' look.
"We can't both go down, sacrifices need to be made." Xavier smirked making me laugh.
"The point is" Trent interjected " she's my step-mother who wants to be close with me. End of story" He said looking at Xavier
"What about the platinum blond?" I asked, folding my arms. I was referring the girl I saw the day I moved here and the one he was with some lunches
"And that fine ass Spanish girl you were talking to last week?" Xavier added.
I looked at him in disappointment and he shrugged "I didn't say I liked her" He defended.
"One day at a time, babe" He took me into his arms and kissed my forehead.
I pushed him away and bit my cheek to hide my smile. "I'm not your babe"
"How about Pumpkin?"
"What, no." I laughed
"Call her bubble butt" Xavier smiled
"That's even worse" I broke out in laughter. Trent gripped my waist and pulled me into his chest. His hand was on the lower side of my back, he brought his face closer to mine, inching closer to my lips
"What about sweetie?" He whispered
I bit my lip and nodded slowly, watching his lips move closer with each words he spoke
"Sexiness"
"Mhh" I moaned
"Gorgeous" his voice was barely audible. But I heard it.
"If you're gonna kiss, get it over with." I forgot about Xavier. I blushed and pulled away from Trent.
"Thanks" Trent murmured to Xavier sarcastically, taking my hands in his. I smiled at how comfortable we were getting with each other. "I'll drive you home. Come"
---
"You want to come in?" I asked, nervous to be in his car alone with him.
He smiled "I can't, I gotta go to work"
"You work?"
He laughed "I'll see you tomorrow, good night"
"It's the afternoon" I muttered back
"Good bye Leigh" He sighed.
"Good bye Trent"
I gave him a shy smile and then exited the car entering my house.
