As a few days past and it became dark, the Green Oak Pack showed up, and Stella immediately searched the crowd for any sign of Bella.
When she finally caught sight of her, she walked next to this big guy, who had dark-brown hair, brown eyes, and looked to be at least 10 years older than Bella.
Compared to everyone else, his face was less serious, and he was actually quite joyful and smiling, as he walked up to Stella and Bella’s parents, and gave a handshake.
“Nice to finally meet you, you must be the Alpha, my mate’s uncle, right?” He chipped, as his other arm was resting on Bella’s waist.
“I am,” my father replied, as Parker nodded.
“Great! My name is Parker, Alpha of the Green Oak Pack, and you must be Bella’s mother, Clarissa.
No wonder my mate is such a striking beauty, with a mother like you,” he complimented with a smirk, as he gently placed a kiss on her hand, before turning to Ace and taking his hand and shaking it.
“But I guess it’s no secret that beauty runs in the family, am I right?” Parker added, as he eyed Stella, before he turned back to Chase.
“Right, but I wanna make one thing perfectly clear; your men are welcome to stay, as long as they follow our rules.
I will not accept any harassing, abusive or demeaning behavior towards the females of our tribe. If anything happens, I will see to the punishment myself,” Chase clarified, as Parker looked at the group of men he had chosen to take with him, before turning back to Chase and nodding.
“Sounds fair to me,” Parker replied as he had his typical jolly demeanor out on full display.
Everyone seemed to buy his act, everyone except Stella, who continued to eye him with suspicion.
“Babygirl? Are you okay?” Armaros asked, when everyone began to head inside Ace and Clarissa’s house, and Stella turned to him.
“I’m completely fine, why wouldn’t I be? But did you speak to Dagon, yet?” She replied, as he gave her a sad smile.
“I called, but he isn’t picking up, so I’ve left a message on his voicemail.
But listen, I know you’re worried about Bella, but maybe it’s not as bad as you think, he might be a decent guy?” Armaros tried to reassure her.
“I wanna believe that, but something tells me, that he isn’t,” She replied, before she sighed.
“I just wished you could be there with me,” she added.
“It’s okay, I don’t wish to be the cause of or contribute to any tension between the tribe and the Green Oak pack.
But I’ll be right outside if you need me, I promise,” he replied as he gave her a kiss before she nodded and headed in too.
[Stella’s POV]
My aunt and uncle had decided that the gathering would be a small one, and that’s why we were at their house.
It was just my parents, me, my brother, Kyan, Jaze and their parents and then, of course, Drake was there too.
“Is your daughter mated yet?” Parker asked my father, just as the food was placed on the table.
“Actually, I am, and you can ask me, instead of my father, I have the ability to talk, you know!” I interrupted, as he just started to smile.
“My apologies, you just didn’t seem like someone in the mood for talking, since you have been glaring at me since we arrived.
But then I guess there must be a good reason why he isn’t here?” he pointed out.
“He had something.. Important to take care of,” my father added as Parker nodded, but it angered me.
Why should we subject ourselves to his accustomed ways?
“Maybe everyone else here buys that little act of yours, but I’m not!” I hissed.
“Stella!” My father warned me, but I wasn’t letting it go.
“No, dad, I can not sit here and act like nothing!” I snapped.
“You are a little hot-headed, I see, but that’s fine, I can manage.” He reassured, as he clearly believed he knew how to handle these kinda situations or, more likely, someone like me.
“I know you might feel threatened by me, but I assure you, I only want what is best for Bella, and I hope with time, we can actually be friends. What do you say?” He asked, as he waited for my reply.
I looked around the table, as everyone stared at me. It was clear to me what he was trying to do.
He wanted to make me look like the bad guy, so I decided to play along.
“You’re right, she is my cousin, and the only thing I want, is to see her happy, and if you make her that, who am I to deny her of it?” I sighed innocently, as I took my glass to my lips.
“Well, I’m glad you see it like that,” he smiled as he lifted his glass and drank from it.
“I just have one question.. Bella!” I spoke, as she looked at me.
“Are you happy? I mean, is he good to you?” I asked her, she looked at me a little surprised, as she forced a smile, before she nodded.
“I am, and of course,” she spoke, but it didn’t sound convincing, not to me at least, and I guess it didn’t to Parker either.
“Excuse us for a moment, I just need to have a word with my mate for a moment,” Parker stated calmly, as he took Bella’s hand and stepped outside.
I rose from my seat, ready to follow, but my father stopped me.
“I know you don’t like the guy, but, you have to let it go, Stella. He is her mate, you can’t interfere in this,” he spoke.
“I respect you, dad, but this isn’t right. You might believe I’m wrong about this, but I’m telling you, he is a bad guy,” I insisted.
“If he was, don’t you think she would’ve said something?” He replied.
“No! ‘Cause she is scared of him, I don’t understand why you can’t see that, none of you do!” I defended, before I walked past him.
“Stella, stop it! My father called, but I was not letting this go.
Normally, I would be the one defending people, but now it was the other way around.
Was it just because he was a werewolf?
I headed down the hall and soon found Parker and Bella, without him noticing my presence.
I saw him from a distant distance scolding her, which immediately put my blood to boiling heights, so I couldn’t keep my mouth shut anymore.
“You don’t deserve to be with her!” I hissed angrily, as I walked over there and pushed him away from her, which clearly took him by surprise.
“You really can’t help it, can you? It’s not up to you, she is my mate, and she is with me, no matter if you like it or not, so stop butting into something that doesn’t concern you!” He snarled at me.
“It doesn’t give you the right to behave like that! She is a good person, she doesn’t deserve that kind of treatment!” I snapped, as he leaned closer to me.
“What are you gonna do about it? She belongs to me, and you can’t change that.
No matter what you say or do, she answers to me, isn’t that right, Bella?” Parker spoke, as I looked at Bella, who just turned to look at the ground, before she nodded.
“Bella, I know you’re scared of him, but he is not entitled to treat you like that, no matter what he says, he’s wrong,” I spoke as I placed a hand on her shoulder.
“You’re just making things worse, Stella, please just.. Let it go,” she mumbled to me, as she walked past me, and placed herself next to Parker, as everyone else started to show up as well.
“You see, this is none of your business. I suggest, whoever your mate is, that he puts you in your place, before another does it for him,” Parker spoke in a warning tone.
“Oh, my mate doesn’t need to put me in my place, ‘cause he actually respects me, and knows how to treat a woman.
Men like you only know how to intimidate women, ‘cause you have no balls!” I shot, and I knew I had hit a nerve, ‘cause his eyes started to shift back and forth.
[..]
“I’m not gonna put up with this kind of disrespectful behavior – Bella! We are leaving right now! You can say goodbye,” he growled angrily.
“Please, Parker, don’t do this, she didn’t mean it like that,” Bella begged, but it clearly didn’t work, he wasn’t going to compromise this time.
“I said now, Bella!” He snapped, as he took hold of her arm.
“Dad, you can’t let him do this,” Stella called out.
“I’m sorry, Stella, but without any proof that he is mistreating her, I can’t do anything.
Bella is his mate and, from what I can sense, he has already marked her, which means she is now a part of the Green Oak Pack,” Chase stated, which also meant Stella couldn’t do anything else, then watch them leave.
[..]
As they had returned to the Green Oak Pack, Parker pulled Bella right back to their tent. She felt how pure anger was radiating from him and it scared her.
“I can’t believe that you weren’t even able to fool that nosy b***h of a cousin you have!” He growled as he let go and turned to her angrily.
“It wasn’t my fault, I did everything you asked,” Bella defended in a low voice.
“And still, you managed to be such a huge disappointment, ‘cause you can’t even manage to look the least happy, after everything I’ve done for you!” He yelled, as Bella dropped to the ground in pain, as he used his Alpha voice once again.
“I’m sorry, I promise to do better,” she sobbed.
He finally pulled his aura back, when Taylor and his Beta Gayle walked in.
“Alpha Parker, we.. Oh, we apologize, did we interrupt something?” Gayle spoke, but paused and apologized, when they saw Bella on the floor crying.
“Forget it, what do you want?” He asked, slightly irritated.
“Alpha Chase has apparently sent someone, and they are asking for you,”
“They followed us? Do they not get anything? Prepare everything, we’ll have to move again tonight after I have talked to these fools!” He growled, before he walked out of there.
Liana, who had been standing outside the tent, came in as they left.
“Are you alright, my Luna,” Liana asked as she came over to help her up from the ground.
“No, I’m not okay, Liana. Nothing will ever be okay. I’ll never be able to do anything right.
I’ll have to live with a constant fear of, when he is going to snap next,” Bella cried.
“It’s gonna be alright, you’re strong, brave, and the nicest person I’ve ever met.
You’re actually the closest thing I’ve ever had to a real friend, so I promise I’ll help you through this, my Luna, I give you my word,” Liana spoke, as Bella gave her a hug, while she kept crying.
“Bella?” A voice suddenly spoke, as Liana tensed.
“Who are you? You shouldn’t be here!” She spoke nervously, as Bella turned her head to see Dagon.
“Dagon?” Bella blurred out, as she couldn’t believe her own eyes.
“Hi, little wolf,” he spoke in a gentle voice.
“What are you doing here?” Bella asked, as he stepped closer.
“I followed you when you left the tribe. I’ve been looking for you ever since I got your letter. I’m sorry I didn’t get here sooner,” he explained.
“You really shouldn’t have come here. You need to leave before Parker sees you,” Bella spoke, as she tried pushing him out of there.
“No, I can’t leave, not without you,” he frowned, as he took hold of her hands.
“You have to, Parker will kill you,” she begged, but he wouldn’t let go.
“Then come with me!” Dagon continued, as she stared at him with tears in her eyes.
“I.. I can’t,” Bella answered as she shook her head.
“Why? He isn’t treating you right, do you really wanna stay with someone like that?” He asked, as he knitted his eyebrows.
“It’s more complicated than that, Dagon, he marked me, okay, that means I’m bound to him and this pack, I don’t have a choice,” she explained, as his features went from shock to anger in seconds.
“Then I’ll force him to do it,” Dagon stated, before he headed out of the tent.
“No, Dagon! Don’t!” Bella blurred out, as she ran after him.
But she soon realized Parker was already on his way back.
“Parker!” Dagon yelled, as he looked at him surprised.
“What the hell are you doing here?!” Parker growled at him, as Dagon walked up to him.
“I came for Bella, I want you to let her go, or I’m gonna kick your ass,” Dagon replied.
“Oh, are you challenging me now, demon?” Parker mocked him, but Dagon just kept staring at him seriously.
“Guess I am.” He answered, making Parker’s grin turn into a glare.
“Fine! If you die, I will have one less problem,” he snarled, as he turned to Bella.
“Now you’ll have to watch as I kill that bastard once and for all, and I’ll be reminding you, that his death is on you!” Parker mind-linked, which made Bella tremble.
Liana took hold of Bella’s hand, before Parker started circling Dagon, like he was searching for and opening.
“You must be having a deathwish, since you're challenging me, an Alpha!” Parker spoke up.
“Not really, you see. I’ve been learning all about you and your pack’s ways over the last months, and I found out the tradition about mates.. So I’m doing this for Bella, ‘cause she deserves to be happy,” Dagon stated, as Parker shook his head at him.
“And you think you can make her happy? HAH! You’re a demon, you aren’t even her mate, how do you plan to make that happen?” He scoffed, as he raised both eyebrows.
“I might not be her mate, but if there is one thing I know, it is that I love her.
I’ll give her the world if she asks for it, that’s how much I love her,” he spoke, as he glanced in Bella’s direction, as she clearly seemed terrified, and then turned back to meet Parker’s angry gaze.
“Let’s get this over with,” Parker snarled.
But the moment Parker shifted into a wolf, and attacked Dagon, Bella jumped in shock.
“Dagon, no!” She yelled, as Parker bit down on Dagon’s arm. She wanted to run over to stop it, but she was stopped.
“You can’t interfere in a challenge, my Luna!” Liana spoke, as Bella looked at her with tears in her eyes.
“But Parker is going to kill him,” she sobbed.
Meanwhile, Dagon was fighting to get free of Parker’s hold on his arm, as blood started to stream down over his shirt.
Dagon kicked him directly in the chest, which finally made him release his hold on him, as he stumbled to the ground, giving Dagon just enough time to get back on his feet.
But then Parker was up again, while a loud growl escaped his mouth, as he bared his teeth.
Then Parker struck again, but despite Parker’s strength, Dagon managed to win, when he broke Parker’s leg, and he turned back to human.
“Give it up, you have already lost,” Dagon hissed at Parker, as he was pressing him against the floor by the neck.
“Fine, you win, finish it already!” Parker growled.
“I could kill you right now, but I'd rather let you live to see what you’ve lost,” Dagon replied, as he let go of him and headed straight for Bella.
But the moment he was turning his back to him, Parker shifted into his wolf form again and headed towards Dagon.
“Dagon, watch out!” Bella blurred out, as Dagon turned around, and punched Parker right in the throat, making him collapse on the floor and turn back to human form.
As he was fighting to regain his breath, he watched Dagon walk up to Bella.
“I swear, Bella, this will have consequences!” He threatened, but Dagon stepped in front of her.
“No, it won’t, ‘cause from this day on, she is no longer your mate. I won fair and square,” Dagon defended as he looked at Bella.
“You have the right to claim back your freedom,” Dagon told her, as her eyes flickered between Dagon’s gentle features, and Parker’s angry glare.
“Dagon, I’m scared,” she almost whispered, as he smiled at her.
“I know, but you can do this, he can’t hurt you anymore,” he promised, as she then nodded and turned to Parker.
“I, Bella Lupus Silva, reject you, Parker Mendax, Alpha of the Green Oak Pack, as my mate,” Bella spoke, but Parker just huffed.
“You really think I’m gonna accept that? Forget it! I already marked you, remember?” He scoffed, but then the smug grin on his face was suddenly wiped right off, as something weird happened. Parker placed a hand on his chest as a sharp pain went through his chest.
“This isn’t possible! I didn’t accept the rejection. How can you..? You tricked me! Taylor, Gayle, grab them!” He yelled, as they were heading in the direction of Bella and Dagon, but then Shax, Baal, Armaros, showed up as they pointed their güns at them, which made them stop in their tracks.
“I’ll suggest you step away now, and it would probably be a good idea for you to leave right now!” Armaros growled at them, as he glared directly at Parker.
“I’ll make you regret this, Bella, mark you’re my words!” He snapped and turned his back at them, as he stomped away. When he was out of sight, Dagon turned back to Bella, who smiled at him.
“Thank you for standing up for me, I couldn’t have done it without you,” Bella spoke, as tears were evident in her eyes and a smile covered her lips, before she turned to Liana holding her hand.
“You should go with us, Liana, nothing is keeping you here, and this pack has been treating you poorly. Please go with me to the tribe.” Bella begged, as Liana looked thoughtful, before nodding.
“Okay, my chance of getting out of this without punishment is probably non-existent anyway,” she spoke, as Bella gave her one last hug, before she turned to look at Dagon, who started to look rather pale, and she finally saw how bad the wound was.
“Dagon, you’re bleeding a lot,” Bella spoke worriedly, as he just shook his head.
“I’ll be fine, the most important thing is that you’re safe,” he replied, but at the same moment he passed out, making Baal and Armaros grab hold of him.
“Let’s get back to the car now, he needs to see a doctor immediately!” Armaros spoke, as Bella’s hands started to shake.
“Don’t worry Bella, he’ll be okay,” Shax spoke, as he placed a hand on her shoulder, before they all hurried out of there.
