I’m secretly waiting for Damien's move but I don’t want to make it obvious to Yna.
The class is almost over but I still can’t see Damien. Our Class is only half a day today because there’s a basketball game later.
At the end of our class, Yna immediately invited me to go to the cafeteria for lunch, but thankfully we also don’t need to go to the Library for our shifting work there.
As Yna and I walked I could not help but look around, thinking that I might see Damien around but when we passed on his and his’s friends favorite spot he was there but he just looked at me and turned back to his friend.
I don’t have a right to blame him for assuming but I can’t help it. I know it’s my fault, that I assume. But I think I can still blame him because he gave me a message that resulting in this.
We sit down a bench located at the back 3rd year building. We started eating, I was quiet and she seemed to notice my annoyance.
"Bes?!" She called me breaking the silence that surrounds us.
I just looked at her and raised my two eyebrows slightly, signaling her to continue. I can't talk because I'm still chewing my food. It would be a shame if I spoke while chewing.
"Are you mad?" she added.
I shook my head. "Nope. Why would you think that?" I lied.
She looked at me like she’s not believing what I’m saying. "Are you sure?"
I nodded. "Yes!"
I can see her shaking her head slowly. “Then why your face looks like you you’re about to hit someone”
I shrugged my shoulder. And didn’t answer her question.
"Let’s watch the game today!" she declared.
I was about to say yes, but I remembered that Damien is on the varsity team.
“No, I don’t want to go.”
She games me a disbelieving look. "What? We need to watch the game Aria. It’s a final game. We need our school team."
I sighed. "But I’m not in the mood to watch the game yna." Still insisting what I want.
"Yeah, I know. It’s clear that you’re not in the mood. and it looks like you don’t want to share to me why." she said as if she’s mad at me.
I breathe deeply. "sorry if I’m like this today but I’m just a little annoyed by Damien. He told me last night that he will prove to me that he likes me and he’s serious about me but look at the time. Our class already ended but still he didn’t do anything." I avoid to look at my friend and bow down my head. "and did you see when we saw him a while ago? He just looked at us and turned back to his friends. I feel that he really is toying me.” I blurted out my annoyance.
I was waiting for what will Yna say about it but she didn't speak so I glance back at her.
But when I saw her face, she was biting her lip to stop her smile.
"Why are you smiling Yna?"
"Nothing!” she chuckles before she spoke again. "Aria, the day is not yet done. Maybe he's still thinking about what will he do. Give him a chance to prove himself. It’s not easy to confess to someone and he still did it yesterday. So, I know he will do it again today."
"I don’t know, but I still can't help but think why he ignored me a while ago.” I bit my lip while remembering it. “maybe I expect too much of something will happening today." I admitted.
Her expression grew sympathetic. "Please aria, don’t assume anything yet! Let just wait if he’s going to make a move today."
I raised my eyebrows at her. It was so surprising to me how she depending Damien to me. Maybe she knew something… but before I can think any more about it. Yna cut my thoughts off.
"Aria, I’m your best friend and I know what you were thinking. I’m just giving a benefit of a doubt to a person. I’m just trying to cheer you up."
I can’t help but smile to what she said. She can really easily read what I’m thinking.
After a while, I remember something happened yesterday.
"I remember, how’s your talk with Nathaniel?"
Yna froze for a while. She gives me a forceful smile.
She swallowed. "What about him?"
"What did the two talked about when we were at the coffee shop yesterday?"
She became uneasy and look away.
"We just talked. He asked me things about me and I did the same too"
I shrugged it off. Maybe they didn’t talk at all.
"At least he didn’t snob you at all. We knew that Nathaniel doesn’t talk much.”
Yna didn’t say anything. I saw her playing with her finger. This always happens when she wants to talk about something.
"What is it? You can tell it me Yna." I added.
"Actually, I already knew Nathaniel before personally. He often came to the library to meet me. We al-"
I cut her off. "and what? Continue your story Yna."
"I was telling you that but you cut me off"
I smiled at her apologetically. "I’m sorry. Don’t mind me, just continue.”
She shook her head before continuing. "And we got close to each other, he's always at the library after school and we always talk about novels and happenings around this school. And one day we start talking about ourselves and I told him my life plans, you know the New York thing. After that he stopped going to the library, I want to know why but I don’t know how to ask him. I didn’t try to talk to him in the hallway or anywhere in this school. And I can feel that he starts avoiding me."
I did not immediately speak after hearing her revelation because of shocked.
I just looked at her. I can’t believe it.
"Why are you just telling this to me now?” I can’t really believe it.
"Because I can’t the relevance to talked about it."
She’s right on that point.
"So, have you asked him why he suddenly stops talking to you?"
Yna shook her head. "I didn’t. I don't even know how to ask him about it."
I was about to speak again when suddenly. We heard an announcement at the school ground.
"All students must need to proceed to the gymnasium in 1 hour. I repeat, all student must need to proceed to the gymnasium in 1 hour. Attendance is a must. Thank you"
Yna looked at me while teasingly smiling at me. I pout.
“Looks like you don’t have a choice but to watch the game Aria." She laughed and stuck out her tongue on me.
"Yeah! Yeah! I know" and I rolled my eyes.
And she didn’t stop teasing me.
