Chapter 8 Xavier got up, unplugged the phone from the wall and walked tiptoe to the bathroom in an effort not to wake Jake, who snored. He closed the door before turning on the small light and approached the mirror where he stared at his own reflection. His eyes drooped but he couldn’t sleep. His dirty blonde hair, which he noticed had been turning darker, stood straight up from the cowlick. He wanted to tell Jake about the plan. But he’d sworn to the Treasury agent not to tell him. Not yet anyway. In a couple of hours, sunrise would intrude into their condo. He still had things to iron out and plan. He wanted to tell the Bureau about his involvement in Treasury’s surveillance, but instead he decided to email his supervisor that he needed the next day off. He used the toilet and blew his
