Chapter 9 I Owe You Too Much

Aiden suddenly felt that he was not qualified to persuade Samuel.

As a general, he has distinguished himself many times at the risk of life since he joined the army.

Without him, the enemy outside the country wouldn’t have been repulsed.

But now, he has protected numerous families, but his family was fragmented.

His wife and daughter once lived in such a terrible house! Everyone would be shocked if the news spread.

Thus, there seemed no reason to persuade Samuel.

Just then Charlotte gently tore Samuel’s clothes and whispered, “Samuel, since they all need you, you don’t need to stay for me and Olivia.”

“You ever told me that only by guarding our country can our family be safe.”

As Charlotte stopped speaking, Aiden nodded quickly and said in a deep voice, “Boss, I agree with her! Can you think more about it? You know, I have no authority to make decisions without permission, so you’d better tell them yourself.”

“Don’t worry, I will tell them by myself. But I have made up my mind, so you don’t have to persuade me anymore.”

Samuel shook his head, then looked at Charlotte and Olivia and said in a light tone, “Now I just want to be with them to make up for my mistakes over the past few years. If you are my bro, you should know me.”

Aiden sighed and nodded with a wry smile.

He had followed Samuel for many years, of course, he knew him very much. If it weren’t for the threat from the border, he would support his decision immediately without hesitation.

Aiden took a deep breath and said, “Boss, I will discuss it with them when I go back, but you should also prepare yourself. It is quite important, so none of us can make decisions easily.”

Samuel also nodded. He knew he must have his own difficulties.

“Don’t worry, if they come to me, I will explain it to them.”

“By the way, it’s so late now. Maybe you can go back for a rest.”

Samuel and Aiden realized that Samuel did ask them to leave, and then immediately stared straight at him.

“Boss, we didn’t mean to stay here for dinner. Why did you drive us away in such a hurry?”

“Are you sick if we are here?”

Samuel touched his nose, nodded, and said, “Yes, that’s right. Your presence was superfluous now. If you want me to keep you for dinner, please get my retirement done first.”

Aiden rolled and eyes and pulled a wry face. “All right, I will tell them about it immediately after I go back. You will get the answer early tomorrow morning.”

With that, Aiden tore Robert’s clothes and was ready to leave. He was also unwilling to disturb them. 

Just a few steps after they went out, Samuel suddenly stopped them.

Aiden thought Samuel had changed his mind, so he quickly turned his head and asked happily, “Boss, have you changed your mind?”

However, Samuel shook his head and said seriously, “No, I just want to remind you to transfer the settlement fee to my account early tomorrow morning. I have to take Olivia to see a doctor and buy a house as soon as possible.”

“If the money were not in my account tomorrow morning. I would have a conversation with you.”

Hearing that, Aiden shivered with fear and recalled the days dominated by Samuel before.

“Boss, you are going to kill me!”

Aiden nodded with sadness and took Robert to run away in a hurry. He couldn’t stay here anymore.

On the way back, Robert was still worried and asked, “Aiden, are you going to agree to his retirement?”

Aiden sighed and then answered, “The tough guy with a strong mind is usually the most vulnerable. It seems right.”

“For the general, his wife and daughter are his weakness. Now seeing their miserable life, he naturally will not go back. But we can’t decide this matter. We can only report it to the king as soon as possible and he will give us the final answer!”

“What? Samuel wants to retire from the army?”

A man with a square face was shocked when he picked up the phone. After a long silence, he bit his teeth, shook his head and said, “Absolutely no! If our enemies know about this, the whole country will fall into turmoil again! By that time, there will be no second man who can stand up and turn the tide!”

“Come what may, you must persuade him to change his mind. As long as he promises not to retire, I can approve everything he wants! let alone the settlement fee.”

Aiden also had a wry smile on his face when hearing it.

In fact, he has already guessed the answer. Now he just wanted to confirm it.

“Your majesty, I will try my best to do it. But you know his temper. Once he makes a decision, no one can change his mind.”

“Of course I know, but I know better that he can’t leave the army now. I can give him time to think about it, and the settlement fee can also be paid without delay. But he should really think carefully about the retirement!”

“You come to sort it out. If you can’t do it well, you also needn’t come back.”

With that, the king hung up the phone directly.

Hearing the busy tone on the phone, Aiden shook his head with a wry smile.

“Why am I so unlucky?”

At night, Charlotte gently pushed Samuel and then walked out of the room after coaxing Olivia into sleeping. 

Samuel also got it and followed her outside the room. He smiled and said, “Charlotte, what do you want to say?”

Charlotte bit her lip and nodded. “Samuel, are you very important to them now? so they don’t want you to retire.”

Samuel had long expected that Charlotte could not let go of this matter, so he touched his nose and explained, “They just felt loathe to let me go. Don’t worry.”

“And I really owe you too much over the years. It’s time to come back and make up for my mistakes. Otherwise, Olivia will be more disappointed with me, right?”
