Chapter 8 I Want to Retire

Samuel just morosely looked at the two men in the front whose faces had stiffened up after laughing for a long time.

“Why the f*****g are you here?”

“Ha-ha...” Aiden and Robert smirked. They finally caught up with him.

Charlotte pulled Samuel’s clothes and whispered, “Don’t be so rude. They are the guests.”

Though she had no idea who they were, she knew one of them was the minister of the Ministry of Defence, who was much more powerful than ordinary officials, even Evan must yield to him.

Samuel patted her on the back of her hand and comforted her, “It’s okay. They are my former friends. We met each other on military duty. Go and get them some water, just the water you usually drink.”

“Ah?” Charlotte was a little at a loss and whispered.

“It doesn’t matter! Mrs...Mrs. Garcia, I can do it by myself. How can I get a cup and water?” Robert said quickly. When glancing at the room, he found there was no table or cabinet.

“Oh...no...no cup, only...only some plates!” Charlotte pointed to two ceramic plates of varying sizes placed on the stove. There were still some small gaps in the plates, which were covered with dust.

Robert looked at the plates on the stove and hesitated.

“All right. It’s good to have a plate. Do it by yourself, and then you can give it to Aiden by the way.” Samuel felt sorry when grabbing Charlotte’s rough hand.

Robert’s hands trembled when he heard his words. Obviously, there was no way back. He had to drink it today.

When he picked up a plate, a fingerprint immediately appeared on the wall of the plate.

“Where is the water?” Robert gritted his teeth and asked.

At...at the door.” Charlotte pointed at the door and looked at Samuel with some guilty. Was he serious? The man was not an ordinary person.

Samuel smiled but said nothing.

Robert went to the door and found what Charlotte said.

On a wooden shelf next to the door, there was a pottery jar that was half broken. it looked not dirty, only some dust on the surface. Presumably, it was often cleaned. And there was still a half jar of water, and some small suspended solids were floating on the water.

Shit! ! How to drink!!

Robert hesitated. The water for dogs at home was much better than it!

How can it be drunk by men?

Robert looked around. Basically, there were pottery jars or plastic buckets like this at the door of every simple shed. Occasionally, some people got some water from it and directly drank it.

How can it be drunk?

Robert seemingly understood what Samuel wanted to show.

He took the plates and got some water from the jar. After cleaning the plates in a simple way, he walked into the house with the water and handed one to Aiden.

“Aiden, here you are.” It was also filled with water. Damn it! Let’s go to hell together!

“I do first!” With that, Robert gulped down the water though there was an indescribable taste in his mouth.

looking at the plate and water in his hand, Aiden frowned. However, he had to drink it all after taking a glance at Samuel’s cold face.

“Oh, Aiden, is the issue of retirement in the charge of you?” Samuel suddenly said.

“Yeah...” Aiden answered without hesitation, but then he exclaimed, “What!? Retire...retirement?”

Aiden was so scared.

Fuck! Was Samuel going to retire?

He was a general! How can he be retired?! Aiden had never seen a retired general!

Samuel looked at Aiden and said seriously, “Yes, I am going to retire.”

“Um...no...boss, calm down, okay? We can talk.” Aiden looked at Samuel, but he found Samuel seemed to be really serious.

“I am calm. I want to retire! You can hear clearly what I say. Look, my wife has no job and my daughter is seriously ill. No one can take care of them if I am not back.” Samuel said in a light tone.

“Um...” Aiden knew Samuel still vented his anger.

“f*****g stop! Now! I want to retire now!” Samuel said.

“Please calm down...” Aiden was almost crying. Can you allow me to make a phone call first?

Damn it! Aiden thought to himself, Samuel had been conferred the title of God of War by the king a few hours before, but now he should want to retire! How can he explain to the king? Did Samuel want to kill him? Samuel knew clearly that he was much superior to him. Even though Samuel insisted on retirement, he had no authority to approve it as well!

Aiden had to contact the king of the country after hesitating.

After a while, Aiden came into the room dejectedly and said, “Well, can we make a discussion? Maybe we can give you a long vacation?”

“Long vacation? What is that? I don’t need it. I just want to retire.” Samuel refused with determination.

Charlotte sat next to her, biting her lip and keeping silent. This time she didn’t push him out again. Five years ago, she could endure the loneliness, but now, Olivia needed her father.

“Listen to me first. You can take this long vacation as long as you want.” It was the final result of the discussion between Aiden and the head of the country. It is impossible for Samuel to retire from the army because he was so important to this country.

As long as Samuel was still in the army, the enemy outside the country cannot invade.

“No! There was no settlement fee for vacation,” Samuel said.

“Se... settlement fee? What is that?” Aiden was faintly familiar with it, but he couldn’t remember it for a while.

“What is that? It is the money for veterans, isn’t it? Or you pocket it?” Samuel glanced up at Aiden.

“Ah?” Aiden was so surprised! Even his mouth was open enough to fit two eggs.

Did he want to retire just because of the resettlement fee?

But now, I should buy a house for my wife and prepare some dowry for my daughter. Um...I think the settlement fee is not too much. Maybe I have to find a better job to support my family. Where can I get a job? Can it be assigned?” Samuel asked while counting on his fingers.

“No money? Evan just gave you all his assets. Why not accept it?” Aiden said with anger. He had the money! He should pretend to be poor in front of him!

“It is totally different. No gains without pains.” Samuel shook his head and resumed, “by the way, I have fought for you on the battlefield for more than ten years at least. The fee should be able to buy a house, right?”

“Is that for me? That’s for the country, for every family in this country...”

While speaking, Aiden suddenly saw Samuel’s eyes gradually darkened and his voice trailed away to nothing.

Aiden glanced at the sparsely furnished house where Samuel’s wife and daughter had lived for a few years, now wordless.
