Cat And Mouse

1325 Words
For a girl she is so damn fast. She is sprinting right through the thicket like it is an open space. The speed with which she is dodging every tree and branch in her path is astounding. And every one of her muscles are popping out with each stride and it looks so alluring to him. Xander can't help but be mesmerized by this beautiful powerful creature that is bent on getting away from him. Right now they are like cat and mouse as one runs away and the other fights to catch them. The girl is not playing too as he sees her fight to maintain her lead. However Xander is up for the challenge too. He wants to feel the satisfaction of winning. He smiles as he gets his own legs pumping and matching her speed. With every leap she takes he takes one too. For whatever reason the thrill he is getting from this chase is exhilarating. He looks at the trees that he is passing and smiles. This is not just another dream that he will wake up from. For once everything is real, she is real and she is here. This time his silver eyes is right before him and he is determined not to lose her. He is at an advantage too because he knows these woods like the back of his hands. He doesn't understand why she ran though. If she felt even half the things he felt back there why would she? For him, everything was screaming to get close to her, to make her his in every way possible. And that is not all, he thinks she might have answers for him. Besides being so attracted to her he too felt something familiar about her. In a way she feels like home. Like they could have known each other before which is intriguing because according to his mother he was just a baby when she found him. So he wants to find out what that's about too. And her eyes, when he saw hers a while ago he realised that he actually had been seeing two different pairs in his visions and dreams even though they look awfully similar. One pair always looks at him lovingly. Almost like she was his mother and he does feel that parental warmth too. While the other pair sets his body on fire whenever he looks into them and he always feels like wanting to get lost in them. The second pair is the one he is chasing right now. The fire in him is raging and the further she runs away the more he wants her close. Closer than the beads of sweat dripping on his body. "Hey wait up." He calls to her but she just keeps running. Xander runs even faster when he realizes that she has no intentions of stopping. Soon she is within his grasp and he holds out his hand to grab hers. When he does she turns to look at him for a moment before she slips out and keeps running. In that split second she looks back at him and he sees her tear stained face. His heart aches when he realises that she is crying. The sadness in her eyes rouses a need in him to protect and comfort her. He decides that this chase has gone on long enough and he puts his all in to get to her. His feet slap the grassy floor sending him jetting past the various trees that are blurred in his speed. She maybe fast but at this speed he is catching up easily. After a few strides he bypasses her and stops right in front of her completely catching her by surprise. He is not prepared though by what comes next when she impressively stops mid stride and does what he would call an impossible turn. Before he can even grasp what's happening she is running in another direction. "Damn it, hey!" He shouts after her all the while impressed with her agility. He can tell she is no ordinary girl, the strength with which she is smashing this chase is out of this world. That makes him all hot and gets his own heart speeding up. He sprints after her with his feet flying over sticks and leaves wanting to catch up again. Everything in him is working towards that one goal. He sees her look back at him for a moment and when she turns back she runs straight into a tree that knocks her out cold. To him everything seems to happen like it was in slow motion and he feels the impact like it was him in her place. He comes to an abrupt stop when he reaches her. She is unmoving and her lifeless body brings a tightness in his throat. At the same time he is overcome with dread when he thinks the worst. He quickly bends down wanting to see if she is breathing and the moment he touches her she looks up at him. Recognition flashes in her eyes and they begin twinkling something that makes Xander freeze. He holds her gaze surprised at what is happening. It's as if she is speaking just with her eyes and weirdly enough he seems to understand what she is saying. She is torn within her and it has everything to do with him. His whole being however is reacting to the beauty laying on the forest floor and he has no way of stopping himself from doing it. They are holding each other captive and look like they are frozen in time. Both lost in each other's eyes and speaking a language only their two hearts can understand. A breath taking smile breaks out of her lips before her eyes flatter closed. It's only then that Xander seems to wake up from his spellbinding gaze and becomes aware of his surrounding once more. Everything is quiet except for the shaking of branches against the wind. A look back at her fills him with panic when he sees her unmoving again and he realizes that her accident might be serious. The thought of losing her makes him spring into action. Without a second thought he scoops her up and starts running back to the house. He doesn't know what to do but he figures he should at least get her out of the woods. He keeps taking quick glances at her as if to ask her to stay alive for him. Once he reaches the house he lays her on their old porch and searches for his phone. Luckily for him he finds it in his jacket that he left on his bike. He quickly dials the one person he has called anytime he was in trouble. "Mom?" "Oh Xander where are you? I have been calling you." "At the our old home. I need you to help her mom." He cuts the line as he feels a lump form in his throat. He is still watching her and every second she lays there unconscious his own heart tightens more. He may have just met her but he feels like they have known each other for an entire lifetime. "Who are you?" He whispers even though he knows she may not hear him. For a strong girl that he could barely catch up to she looks so fragile as she sleeps. Now that he can see her clearly and so close, he finds himself entranced by her flawless beauty. Everything about her is perfect and he finds himself being drawn to her in more ways than one. She is a mystery he wants to solve desperately. The energy surrounding her feels very familiar in a way he can't explain. Whatever it is or whoever she is, one thing is clear to him. She has his heart and one way or another he is determined to make her his.
