DYLAN P.O.V.
After finding our mates at our birthday celebration, Lydia and I had to get involved in the family businesses and take over the reins with our cousins, Caleb and Annabelle.
Lydia had already moved to Seth's pack, and the preparations for her coronation as the pack's Luna had already begun. It was a weird feeling not having my sister around for the first time. My sister had her hands full with everything happening at the same time, but never once did she lose her composure. I was very proud of her. It was not an easy task to do, but Lydia, the daughter of Ariana Northwood and granddaughter of Alison Northwood, proved that she was worthy of the family name.
Lydia and Annabelle started working together at A&A Constructions. Lydia was a fast learner, and soon enough, she was able to deal with all kinds of projects. Being born into a family of architects, it didn't take long for all of us to develop our knowledge of architecture and design.
On the other hand, I joined Caleb at Northwood Construction Company. We started sharing the responsibilities and the clientele, trying to make the company's sales even higher.
I was a fast learner too. Ever since I found out that Gina was my mate, my behaviour has changed. I became more responsible and composed, and it was like I grew up overnight.
Most importantly, I was about to get the title of Alpha and share the pack's duties with Caleb. The preparations for the title ceremony had already begun, and I was overexcited and a little anxious. Taking responsibility for so many people's lives was not a joke.
I had proposed to Gina and wanted to have our mating ceremony on the same day, but Gina disagreed. Her parents had not yet accepted that she was a werewolf's mate. They tried everything to convince her to leave me and move back with them, but Gina refused.
When I told my mate that I wanted to proceed with the mating ceremony, she replied that she preferred to wait for her parents to accept our relationship. She expected her parents to accept me in their lives before I put my mark on her and then perform our mating ceremony in her parent's presence.
I was agitated. I tried to hide my true feelings because I did not want to hurt Gina. Something told me that her parents would never accept our bond, and I had to find a way to convince them because Gina had to become my Luna. That meant I had to mark her. We shared the same bed and made love to each other, and I always had difficulty keeping Lucian at the back of my mind so that he did not attempt to mark her without her consent.
A few days before my Alpha ceremony, Gina had revealed that she was expecting our baby, and I panicked. I knew what it meant for a human to carry a werewolf's pup without being marked and mated to him.
My parents were worried about the situation and asked my grandmother, Alison, to talk to me. My relationship with my grandmother was one of a kind. She was one of the most trustworthy people in my family, and she was the one that spoilt me. She used to say that she could not resist my charms and my eyes, which were identical to my grandfather's.
I went to see my grandmother in her private chambers with Gina. She was expecting us, and as soon as she saw Gina, my grandmother went to her, and hugging her, she led my mate to sit on the couch next to her.
"Hey sweetie, you have given us fantastic news. Ariana told me you are expecting my great-grandchild. That's wonderful. Is everything okay?"
Gina smiled shyly at my grandmother and nodded.
"Gina, honey, you know why I have requested to see you and Dylan, right?"
Gina looked at my grandmother and said nothing. She lowered her eyes and fiddled with her fingers.
"Gina, I know that you are expecting your parents to accept that you are mated to Dylan so that you can complete your mating ceremony with my grandson. But sweetheart, there is a baby now, and I am sure you already know the risks if you don't let Dylan mark you as soon as possible. Please, don't jeopardise your happiness with Dylan, Gina."
"Luna Alison, I can understand your fears, but please don't worry. I am sure that the minute my parents find out about the baby, everything will change. I need some more time to convince them. Please don't pressure me on this subject. I have always had a good relationship with my mum and dad, and I can't do this without them," Gina pleaded, sobbing.
"Baby, what if your parents don't change their attitude? Do you think I am ready to jeopardise your life because of their stubbornness? Gina, carrying my pup unmarked, it's dangerous, not so much for the baby, as for you. Please, try to understand."
Hearing the irritation in my voice, Gina started crying even louder. Lately, that was what happened every time we talked about it, and I realised it was happening because of the pregnancy hormones. I took my mate in my arms and apologised for how I spoke, kissing her teary cheeks. My grandmother mind-linked at me and asked me to give Gina some time. We would perform the Alpha ceremony and then deal with Gina's parent's problem.
The day of the ceremony finally came. The guests started arriving one by one, and soon, the pack was full of people waiting to watch my Alpha ceremony that evening. They all respected my family greatly, since both my grandparents, Axel Northwood and Alan Hayes, were the ones that saved our kind from the Hunters, that had used silver and wolfsbane against us so many years ago.
Everything was ready, and the ceremony began. My grandfather, Axel, would perform the title coronation as the elder of our family. He stood in the middle of the patio, where the pack members had already formed a circle with candles. My grandfather invited me to join him in the process. He took me by the hand and asked me to repeat some words after him in a strange language. I followed my grandfather's instructions, and soon, Caleb joined us. My grandfather took us both by the hand. In his deep voice, he proclaimed that we would both share the duties as the Alphas of our pack.
He then took a sharp knife and cut our palms deeply. Although we were family, joining both palms were requested to confirm that we accepted sharing the role of the Alpha.
So, when Caleb and I joined palms, something unexpected happened. A bright light coming from the sky lit the whole place, and as if our hands were burning, both Caleb and I took a step back. We watched in awe as the light hit our palms, and a crescent moon showed up where the wounds were. The picture of the moon was delicate and beautiful, as if someone had stamped our palms perfectly.
A melodic voice interrupted everyone's thoughts.
"This is the first time in our family's history that the Alpha title goes to two extraordinary young male werewolves. Both Caleb and Dylan will do a great job protecting their pack and our kind. You are blessed to have these two young males as your Alphas. Respect and obey them, and everything will be in order. You both have my blessing, my great-grandchildren, and may everything in your life give you the strength to continue. Not all days will be bright, but it's in your power to shape things the way they should be. Both pleasant and unpleasant things occur occasionally, but that has never stopped our family before. So, stay strong and always support each other."
My great-grandmother's words echoed in my ears as the light disappeared along with her voice. Everyone else was whispering in astonishment about our Moon Goddesses' presence at one of our family's special occasions. The elders knew how our Moon Goddess reacted in such matters, but the younger generation had never witnessed anything like it before.
I couldn't stop thinking about what my great-grandmother meant by her last words. Was she trying to warn us that something terrible would happen and that we should stay strong and deal with it? I couldn't figure out what she was trying to tell us, and I somehow felt restless, as if what she had just said had to do with me.
After the ceremony finished, we treated our guests to dinner and enjoyed the rest of the evening. Although I was having a great time, I couldn't stop feeling worried about my great grandmother's words.
The days passed, and I engrossed myself with my pack duties as the Alpha and my duties as one of the Axel Northwood construction company owners. I didn't have time to think about anything else.
Meanwhile, Gina's pregnancy was difficult because the fetus took all her strength. I begged her more than once to allow me to mark her so that she could get stronger and accept my powers until she gave birth, and she refused me every time because her parents didn't even want to hear anything about our bond.
I was very frustrated with my mate's stubbornness because I was afraid that something terrible would happen to her. My grandmother, Alison, tried to persuade Gina to no avail. Eventually, my grandmother told me not to worry about anything. When the baby was due, she would stay by Gina's side and use her healing powers to protect my dear mate from danger. She had already given Gina some potions to strengthen her, and Gina was already feeling better.
Three months before the baby was due, my grandmother mentioned that she was invited to travel to France with my grandfather for a few days. Gina convinced her that there was enough time for her to travel and come back until the baby was due. My grandmother was a bit hesitant at first, but Gina promised she would take her potions daily, and if anything happened, they would inform
Days went by, and everything seemed okay. My schedule was overloaded, since Caleb and I decided to merge the Blue Silver Moon pack and the Yellow Moon pack, and we agreed that we would keep the name of the Blue Silver Moon pack. The workload increased by the time Caleb and I set things in order.
It was a hot summer's night, and I had been working in my office in the packhouse, and I had started working from home to be closer to Gina. My mate was in our room sleeping, and I was about to join her when Lucian, my wolf, urged me to rush to our mate. There was something wrong with Gina. I found her lying on the floor, in great pain. She could not move at all, and her breathing became heavy.
"Dylan, the baby is coming. I can't stand the pain; it's killing me," she cried.
I picked her up and rushed to the pack's hospital, mind-linking the doctors to prepare for the baby's delivery. My mother, who had heard the whole commotion, ran to my side, informing the rest of our family members.
At first, everything seemed fine. Gina had delivery pains, but she could cope with the doctor's instructions. By the time the baby was born, she had lost too much blood, and her heartbeat had slowed. She lost consciousness, and no matter what the doctors did, she could not be roused. The doctors put her on the life-support machine immediately and tried to do everything in their power to save my mate from certain death.
I could not believe what was happening. Gina had given birth to our baby boy, and instead of celebrating my son's arrival with my mate, I was standing in the middle of the room, frozen, waiting for the doctors to save my mate's life.
