THIRD-PERSON P.O.V.
"Lydia, Dylan, come down. It's breakfast time, and everyone's waiting to start eating. Oh my, how lazy are you guys? Especially today!"
Caleb Northwood's voice woke one of the twins up. It was their eighteenth birthday, and the entire family was waiting for them to wish them and celebrate their birthday with a sumptuous breakfast before the evening celebration. It was also a new beginning for Dylan, since he would take the title of the second Alpha of both the Blue Silver Moon and the Yellow Moon pack, along with Caleb, his elder cousin, who was already the Alpha of both packs.
Lydia rushed to her brother's room to wake him up and kiss him good morning. She found her brother sleeping deeply and playfully ruffled his curly ginger hair, kissing him on the cheek.
"Hey, there, big guy! Sleepy, are we? I wonder what time you went to sleep last night. Let me guess. As usual, you have fallen asleep in the early hours of the morning.
What have you been doing, again?"
Dylan growled and tried to turn the other way, but Lydia persisted. "Who were you with, you cheeky monkey? Was a female involved again?" she teased Dylan.
Dylan opened his emerald-green eyes and looked at her. He smiled at his sister's beautiful face and messed with her long black hair, similar to their mother's.
"Hey, there, sweetie! Happy birthday to us, baby girl! I love you so much, sis." Dylan sat on his bed, took his sister in his arms and kissed her forehead.
"Yeah, I love you too, mister, but that will not save you from trouble if you don't hurry up and come downstairs with me. Everyone has been waiting for a long time. We are eighteen today, so grow up and behave accordingly, okay?" Lydia teased and pulled him up.
Dylan Hayes was a very handsome young man. He resembled a Greek God with a muscular body, ripped in all the right places. His six-pack added to his glory. Although he had his father's ginger hair, Dylan looked very much like his grandfather, Axel Northwood. His good looks and a well-built body made him irresistible to all the young females, not only in their packs but also in the human world! That got him into trouble more than once. His parents expected him to find his mate after turning eighteen and hopefully settle down at last.
On the other hand, Lydia was a complete replica of Alison and Ariana. Tall and slender with a lithe figure and dark violet eyes, Lydia Hayes was one of the most beautiful female Alpha werewolves in the United States. Clever and composed, she took her character from her grandmother, Alison. Many suitors were waiting for her to turn eighteen so that they could try their luck and see whether they were her destined mate.
The siblings went downstairs to the dining room, holding hands, teasing each other.
When Dylan and Lydia entered the room, their parents, Ariana and Alan, were the first to greet them with a hug. Ariana was so happy to see them holding hands once more, as she did her best to keep them united and supportive of each other. Like her when she was younger, Dylan was untamed, which sometimes created minor fights between the siblings.
"Happy birthday, my babies," Ariana whispered, happily kissing them. Alan lovingly hugged them.
"My pigeon pair has finally grown up. I can't believe how fast time has passed," Alan said.
"Hey, you two! It was about time you showed up!" Caleb teased them, holding his mate, Roxanne, in his arms. "We are starving, you know."
Everybody laughed at Caleb's tone. They knew that he was the first to rush into the dining room for food. He was as tall as Dylan and had the same muscular body. If anyone saw them together, they would think that they were brothers. The only difference was the hair colour - Caleb's was black and straight.
The twins went near their grandparents and kissed Luna Alison and Alpha Axel with love. They were very close to their grandparents and the rest of the family. The Northwood family was as close as ever, even though the grandchildren added some newcomers to the family. Caleb and his sister, Annabelle, had already found their mates and lived together happily. Annabelle had moved with her mate, Duncan Alexander, to his pack and had taken over the construction company that dealt with foreigners. She was now waiting for Lydia to join her. Caleb was running the Northwood construction company and expected Dylan to join him.
After breakfast, the twins got their gifts and left for shopping, as they wanted to get ready for their evening birthday party.
Back at the Blue Silver Moon Pack, Ariana and her brother Aiden were in the study, happily discussing how their children had grown up and already started taking over their duties. Aiden was surprised to see his sister so emotional about the subject; it seemed that only her children brought her sensitive nature to the forefront.
"Do you remember when it was our eighteenth birthday?" Aiden teased Ariana. Alan entered the study with Sienna, Aiden's mate, and Luna.
"Please don't remind me of that night," Alan protested, and Ariana blushed in embarrassment. Alan went near her, hugged her, and lovingly said, "I would not change how we lived, together or separately, sweetie. It made our bond stronger than ever."
The two couples talked and then visited the birthday party venue. Ariana wanted to make sure that everything was as she expected.
………………………………………………………………………………
Lydia had just found what she was looking for, and Dylan had already done his shopping. The twins decided to have lunch at a nearby cafeteria.
"Dylan, I also invited some of our schoolmates to the party tonight, and they know who we are, so there won't be any problems. Besides, Gina is my best friend, and I can't ignore her on my birthday."
"Oh, Lydia, that girl drools over me every time I see her. Why did you have to invite her?" Dylan protested.
"Dylan, watch your mouth. Okay, Gina may like you, but don't act that way. If you want nothing to do with her, then ignore her. It's that easy," Lydia replied, a bit annoyed with her brother's behaviour.
"Even if I liked her, she is human, Lydia. Nothing will happen between us," Dylan answered, eating in silence.
Lydia watched him, trying to figure out her brother's thoughts. As soon as she mentioned Gina, his mood changed, and he was gloomy.
"Okay, big guy. If you've finished eating, I think we should get back so that I have enough time to get ready for tonight. Is that okay with you?" Lydia tried to lighten up the atmosphere.
Dylan smiled at her and replied, "Your wish is my command, princess. Let's go."
Dylan's black S.U.V. left the city and headed to the Blue Silver Moon pack. He was very quiet, and Lydia kept watching him. Something was bothering her brother, and she was eager to find out. However, Lydia knew that nothing would come out of it if Dylan insisted on not talking to her. She set a goal to find out soon enough.
Annabelle went into the room to help her dearest cousin get ready for the party. Lydia had chosen a long dark violet strapless dress that fit her body like a glove, accentuating her beautiful figure and making her violet eyes seem even brighter. She was breathtaking.
"I feel sorry for the single guys tonight," Annabelle teased her cousin. Lydia blushed and said nothing. The girls spent some time getting ready and discussing the upcoming birthday celebration.
When the time came, Lydia, accompanied by Dylan, entered the venue holding each other's arms. They were both stunning. The minute the twins appeared at the entrance, all single males and females held their breath.
Dylan escorted his sister to where their parents were sitting. They greeted their elders and then moved around the venue, welcoming their guests.
Dylan left Lydia talking with some of their friends. He went to get some drinks for the two of them. Walking back to where he left her, he came across Gina, Lydia's friend. Gina was a tall blond girl with dark blue eyes and rosy lips. She was wearing a short black dress that flattered her figure. When she saw Dylan approaching, she blushed and turned her face away from him. Dylan kept looking at her, a strange feeling coming from his guts. He had never noticed how beautiful Gina was. She was his sister's friend and a human, and he wasn't supposed to pay any attention to her.
Dylan went to her and greeted his sister's friend, giving her his hand. "Welcome, Gina," he said in his low husky voice, and Gina blushed immediately. She gave him her hand, not even looking at him. Dylan felt weird touching Gina's slender fingers, and it was a feeling he had never experienced before. He could not explain it, though. He tried not to show anything and left to greet some new arrivals.
The party continued, and when everyone finished eating, the D.J. changed the tune and started playing slow music for the couples. It was almost midnight, and everyone was waiting to see if Dylan and Lydia would find their mates.
Standing in the corner of the room, Seth Greenwood, Dylan's best friend and the current Alpha of the Moon Stone pack, had been watching Lydia closely. He already knew that Lydia had been his mate since he had turned eighteen six months ago, and he wanted her to find herself. Seth had heard of Lydia's parent's story and did not want to repeat the same mistake as Alan. So, listening to the rest of the men talking about Lydia and their hope of being her mate, he smirked and sipped his whiskey slowly, not participating in the conversation.
Seth watched as Dylan danced with his sister. Lydia was gorgeous that evening, and she was smiling at something her brother told her, and her face was gloating. Seth felt a lump in his throat, and his wolf urged him to go and ask Lydia to dance with him.
The moment Seth took a step towards the twins, the clock struck midnight. There was a storm of emotions as the single males found their mates in the room.
Dylan had been holding his sister in his arms when the sweet scent of jasmine hit his nose. His mate was in that room. "Mate!" Dylan heard a voice inside his mind as his wolf spoke to him for the first time.
"Our mate is in this room, Dylan. Follow the scent," his wolf urged him.
"And who are you?" Dylan asked, confused by the fact he had found his mate that evening.
"I am Lucian, your wolf. Now go get our mate!" his wolf replied.
Dylan left his sister, not noticing that Lydia was in the same condition. He walked towards the source of the jasmine scent, and there she was. Gina was standing right in front of him, smiling at something one of their schoolmates had said.
Dylan was shocked. His mate was human. What the hell was his great grandmother trying to pull? Before he could even think twice, his wolf's voice called "Mate" again, and Dylan found himself holding Gina in his arms, kissing her in a dominating way on the lips.
Lydia, on the other hand, watched as Seth approached her. She could smell pinewood and forest rain, and her heart was pounding in her chest like crazy. His eyes never left hers as he came and stood right before her, taking her trembling hand into his vast palm. He smiled at her, and she thought she was going to faint.
"Mate?" Lydia asked, confused, and Seth took her in his arms and kissed her passionately, leaving everyone in the room watching them stunned.
In the meantime, Gina was trembling in Dylan's arms. Dylan took off his jacket and placed it on her shoulders. He took Gina by the hand and led her to one of the venue's empty rooms.
"Gina, do you realise what happened back there?" Dylan asked, and Gina shook her head, not looking at him. Her lips were still burning from the kiss he had given her.
"Gina, would you please look at me?" Dylan lifted her chin and looked deep into her eyes. "You know what I am, and you have proved to be my mate. Do you want me to reject you? If you say yes, I will do it right away because I do not want to harm you."
Gina touched Dylan's face, and instead of replying, she gave him a light peck on the lips.
"I love you, Dylan. I have been in love with you for a long time. There is no way I would ask you to do something like that. Please, don't send me away."
Dylan hugged his mate tenderly and prayed to the Moon Goddess to help him keep her safe. However, little did he know that his mate's stubbornness would change everything.
