It had only been three months since the girl's 18th birthday. They’d pleaded with me to go to the festival again but there had been sightings of rogue dragons in the area, and I wasn’t willing to risk it, so we'd ate dinner in the girl's private garden again.
Ava didn’t seem to mind too much and was eager to spend some time with me no matter what we were doing, and she excitedly showed off how advanced her powers were getting when she turned a tiny little seed I’d gifted her for her birthday from the Fae realm into a small golden tree, but Casidy was even more distance from me than ever before.
Every time I spoke to her directly she would answer politely but only ever light up when she was speaking with her twin. I hated admitting that this made me jealous, I wanted all of her attention.
I wanted to ask her more directly what I had done wrong to upset her so much. I provided for her, I gave her and Ava anything they desired, I helped them with their education and training for their powers and the ritual, and yet she kept me at arm’s length.
Was she mad that we spent so little time together?
The girls were currently sitting in the sunshine in one of the many courtyards in the castle, which pleased me as I had a wonderful view of them from my office.
I was leaning against the window watching them with jealousy, Ava was lying in Casidy’s lap while Casey read a book to her while Ava ran her fingers up and down her twin's arm.
‘Aiden?’ I heard Ryker call out as he came into my office and closed the door.
‘What is it?’ I asked, but continued to watch my girls.
‘The arena is finished’ He told me as he walked over to me.
‘Great’
‘Did you want to come and inspect everything?’
‘No’
‘What are you looking at?’
He looked out and laughed softly to himself ‘I see’ He said smugly and I wanted to hit him ‘How old are they now?’
‘18’
‘Not long to wait now’
‘Easy for you to say’ I sighed.
‘I don’t see why you don’t claim them now?’
‘I’m thinking about it’ I commented as a boy walked past the girls and nervously waved to them ‘Who is that boy?’
Ryker lent towards the window and looked over at the boy ‘I think it’s Nate, Lord Shamus’s youngest’
‘I see’ I frowned and envisioned skinning that boy alive. He was still staring at the girls from where he’d sat down with his friends.
I heard Ava giggle and my attention went straight back to the girl's, Ava had grabbed Casey’s book and tossed it aside before she playfully pinned her sister and lent over her.
I felt my c*ck twitch at their actions and the desire to claim them now sprang forth again as Casey reached up and brushed Ava’s long white hair back behind her ear.
Ryker cleared his throat and I looked away from the girl's ‘What?’
‘We all understand that the girls are twins and that twins tend to be a lot closer than most siblings’ He said nervously ‘But as your mates, the girls need to learn to behave more discretely in public’
‘They don’t know I’m their mate’ I reminded him and looked back at my girls who were both lying down again. This time Casidy had her head on Ava’s stomach and pointing to clouds ‘And they’re not doing anything wrong, they’re just playing around’
‘Aiden’ Ryker said in exasperation ‘You don’t honestly believe the girls are only playing, I’ve seen mates less attached to one another than the girls are’
I growled in annoyance ‘Technically the girls are mates as well as twins, they came from the same egg, they’re the same being in two separate bodies, I don’t care if they’re closer than just siblings… actually I do care, but only because I wish I could join them if they are being intimate but until I find out otherwise, I will pretend that they aren’t so drop it, it’s hard enough’
‘If you claimed them now, you could be married within the month’ Ryker pointed out ‘And then you could stop worrying about other males near them and the girls would understand that they have to act more mature in public, even if they weren’t your mates, they’re still celestials and’
‘GIRLS!’ Nanny Colleen shouted and Ryker froze.
Nanny Colleen marched up to the girl's who quickly stood up and held hands nervously and looked at their feet.
‘WHAT TIME DID I TELL YOU TO RETURN FOR YOUR LESSONS!?’
I pressed my lips together to stop myself from laughing, if anyone other than nanny had yelled at my girls like that, I’d have been furious, but I knew she loved the girls nearly as much as me
‘WELL?!’ She shouted again when they didn’t respond.
I noticed a few of the other hatchlings quickly rushed off out of fear that they’d be next to get scolded.
‘We lost track of time’ Casidy finally spoke ‘We’re sorry’
‘I know you don’t like seer training Casey but it’s important if you want to gain control over your visions now, come along and Ava, go to your healing training in the hospital’
‘I don’t understand why we can’t stay together for training’ Ava complained.
‘I will not go over this again Averly!’ Nanny snapped ‘Now where are your id*ot guards?’
‘Here nanny Colleen’ One of her guards stepped forward from where he’d been standing near the entrance.
‘Where’s the other one?’
‘Bathroom break’
WHAT!? I was furious, they knew that if one guard had to step away for a moment then another one was to replace them.
‘And why wasn’t he replaced!’ Nanny shouted, and I smiled again ‘You idiots know the rules, two girls.. two guards, its simple math, forget again and the King will hear about this!’
‘He already knows’ I linked both nanny and the guard who looked around nervously ‘Look up’
They looked up at the window and saw myself and Ryker staring at them.
The girls frowned and looked in the direction nanny was and Ava smiled and waved while Casey began to smile before she caught herself and looked down again.
‘If this happens again I will kill you’ I told the guard angrily ‘And inform the other guard of my warning’
I cut the link and waved back at Ava, who blushed and looked down again happily.
‘We should go’ Casidy said and hugged Ava ‘I’ll see you later’
Without another word, she picked up her book and left the courtyard.
‘What are you waiting for boy!’ Nanny shouted and pointed after my mate ‘Go!’
‘Oh, yes mam’ He quickly rushed after her and I shook my head angrily.
‘I want him and whoever the other guard was reassigned’ I order Ryker, who nodded ‘I don’t want either of them looking after my girls again’
‘Yes your majesty’
There was a knock at the door and I sighed in annoyance, it never ended.
‘Come in!’ I called out as I watched Ava and nanny walk away, even going she was stunning, the diamond clips in her hair sparkled in the light and make it look like she was shining.
‘Excuse me, Alpha’ The man said, and I finally walked away from the window to see a boarder guard
‘What?’
‘I have today's report sir’
‘Very well, speak’ I ordered, and sat down.
For the rest of the day I worked and didn’t retire to my room until late in the evening, but I was too restless to sleep because rogue sightings had increased, so I shifted and decided to take a lap around the territory to make sure everything was safe.
I loved being in the sky, riding the wind and the coolness from the clouds I dove through.
I couldn’t wait for the girls to experience this feeling and I hoped Casey would be able to overcome her fear of falling, but I’d make sure to stay close by her side to help keep her calm while we were flying.
After a few hours, I returned home, making sure to circle are the girls suites, I got a glimpse of Casey in the window so I perched on one of the rooftops and laid down comfortably to watch her.
She had her knees pulled to her chest as she sat on the windowsill and was looking out, she seemed sad, and I wondered if she’s failed at her lessons again today. She was still having a lot of trouble controlling her abilities.
I watched her for a few more minutes until I saw Ava walk over and hug Casey. She whispered something in her ear and Casidy laughed, I was so happy Ava knew how to cheer her up.
Ava took Casey’s hand and pulled her from the window before she closed the curtains and a light went out, I guess they were going to bed now.
I gave an annoyed puff of smoke and stood back up, shaking my back and tail before I launched myself back into the air and flew back to my own suite.
I couldn’t wait until the girls lived in my suite, I’d wanted them to live there already and even had their rooms built and furnished, but nanny didn’t think it would be appropriate until they were older.
I landed in my private garden and shifted back into my human form before heading inside.
I hadn’t seen the girls in two days, but I was thrilled that today was the fights and they’d be attending.
As celestials, the girls had to attend events like this, Ava loved being in the spot light but Casey hated it but as one of the future Queens, she’d have to get used to it as she’d have even more demands on her then now.
I dressed in black pants and a loose gray shirt and boots an left my suite with a jacket over my arm, it was a perfect day for the fights.
Every year the newly shifted dragons would compete for rank and there was huge bonfire to celebrate the end of their hatchling time, and they would have to join society officially.
I was not eager for the girls to go through this, luckily as I planned to be married to them by that time, they would not need to compete for rank, not that they really needed to in the first place, as celestials, they out ranked practically everyone except for myself and official members of court.
I walked through the castle to the area, the castle was oddly quiet and there was only a few guards scattered around as everyone else was already gathering at the arena and garden area where lunch would be served.
The second I reached the garden I smelt the girls scent and my heart began to race, no mate should smell so alluring, and I had two mates to contend with, I was always instantly turned on and I grateful I was in loose fitting pants.
I was greeted by several members of our thunder who I smiled politely at but continued through the crowd without stopping until I reached my destination.
I finally found the girls sitting on the grass with several children, Ava was using her powers to grow flowers and the girls would cheer and clap happily while Casidy was busy weaving some kind of flower crown which she rested on one of the little girl's head.
‘Thank you lady Casey’ The little said happily
‘Will you make me one too, Celestial Casidy?’ Another little girl in a pretty pink dress pleaded.
‘Of course darling’ She answered and I smiled.
The girls were going to be natural mothers, and they looked so exquisite today. Ava was decked out in her usual style, large puffy gown, this time a with a big blue skirt and tight fitted white bodest, her hair was up in an elegant braided bun with a few loose strands that must have escaped because of the wind that had picked up, and to my delight, beautiful blue diamond earrings I’d gifted her.
While Casey was wearing a pale grayish cream dress that fell from her shoulders, leaving her shoulders and throat bare but luckily her thick wavy red hair was loose and fluttering softly in the wind.
Both girls had me mesmerised, I wanted to drag them both back to my bedroom and rip their clothes off.
‘Look Reese, it’s the King’ I hear a little hatchling call out excitedly and the twins turned to look at me.
Well… there goes my private spying time, I sighed internally and walked past the kid and playfully ruffled his hair as I passed on the way to the girls.
‘Hello your majesty!’ Ava waved and smiled her gorgeous smile at me.
Casey quickly rose and pulled Ava with her ‘Hello your majesty’ She greeted me and bowed before sitting back down ‘Girls, greet the King properly’ She said, when they remained sitting nervously looking up at me.
Ava bowed and sat back down as the younger girls rose and clumsily curtsied and greeted me.
‘Hello young ladies’ I smiled and squatted between my girls ‘What are you all up?’
‘We’re making crowns’ A little girl answered and showed me the pretty crown covered in light blue flowers ‘Is it pretty?’
‘It is’
‘Ladies Ava and Casey helped up make them’ Another little girl told me
‘Well, that is very nice of them’ I smiled ‘I hope you thanked them’
‘We did’ The girls said quickly and seriously.
‘Would you like one too, your majesty?’ Ava asked as she grew a pretty white flower and tucked it into a buttonhole on my shirt.
‘The King has actual crowns, Ava’ Casey rolled her eyes ‘He wouldn’t want some flowery one’
‘Actually that would be wonderful’ I said smugly and looked into her eyes, I instantly felt the pull from the mate bond, and I was compelled to reach out and pull her mouth to mine, but I quickly looked away and stood up ‘I expect my crown by the time the fight begins, good luck’
‘What?’ Casey complained and hit her sister as I began to walk away, passing the girls guards on the way ‘Thanks a lot, Ava’
Ava giggled ‘Who ever makes the worst one has to tell nanny about the broken jewelry box’
‘What!’ Casey said again as I weaved through the crowd again ‘You’re the one who broke it, you dropped it’
‘Because you passed it awkwardly’
I began laughing softly and entered the area. The area was already nearly full and there was loud chatter and the smell of various food wafting through the clan members already seated.
I made my way to my private area close to the area’s fighting ring in the center where about 16 young boys and 9 girls were warming up and speaking with several adults.
My Beta, Ryker was speaking with them all, no doubt informing them of their order and how the ranking ceremony would go.
A guard opened the gate to my private seating while a server bowed and passed a beer towards me, but I shook my head ‘Get me a whiskey’
‘Yes sir’ He bowed and turned back to the bar at the back of my seating area.
There was already a few clan members seated, Rykers mate Lady Lenore and their youngest child, Selene, were sitting in the middle row next to Rykers empty seat.
Several more chairs sat in front of them, filled with a few of my court members and their mates.
The twin's seat rested next to my larger chair at the back, which is where I sat down.
‘Good morning your majesty’ Selene and her mother stood up and bowed
‘Ladies’ I nodded and took the drink the waiter returned with.
Lenore sat back down in her seat and started up her conversation with Lady Destiny who was my courts treasurer. The woman was a wiz with gold, but most dragons loved to hoard gold, but Selene moved and sat down next to me in Casey’s chair on my right.
I suppressed a growl and took a sip of my drink.
‘It’s a perfect day for the fights isn’t it your majesty’
‘I agree’ I nodded and looked up at the perfect blue sky.
‘Are you looking forward to your birthday next year your majesty?’ She asked me ‘300, you must be so excited’
I laughed ‘After the first 100 birthdays you don’t get too excited for them anymore’ I told her as she began to play with her loose black hair ‘You’re still young, you’ll understand one day’
She smiled ‘I hope not’ She told me ‘Daddy always spoils me on my birthday, is there anything you’d like for your birthday, I’d love to get something you really desire?’
‘What I want, you can’t give me Selene’ I commented, and thought about my girls. Having them would be the best present I could ever receive ‘No one can’
‘I don’t know’ She said softly and leaned closer to me, I frowned, her scent was repulsive ‘I would be happy to give you anything you want’
I took a sip of my drink ‘As I said’ I told her firmly ‘What I want, you cannot give me’
‘Ryker’ I linked my Beta, who looked over at me from the arena ‘Sound the alarm and get the fights started’
‘On it’ He bowed his head and raised his hand and a loud alarm sounded.
‘Oh, it’s starting early’ Selene perked up ‘I can’t wait!’
The crowd started cheering excitedly, and the atmosphere filled me with excitement and I couldn’t wait for my girls to arrive, I’d get an entire two hours with them by my side and I would get covered in their wonderful scent’s.
I sculled the rest of my drink and held up my cup and the waiter quickly rushed over and took it from me.
By the time the waiter arrived with my new drink, Ryker had walked back into the seating area.
‘Who’s your money on this year?’ Ryker asked as he sat down in front of me and held up his hand to the waiter, who bowed and rushed to get him a drink.
‘Lord Daniels kid Kara’ I said as I looked over the girls ‘And warrior William’s Kid, the one with the shaved head and scar, what’s his name?’
‘Lathen’ Ryker nodded ‘I’ll agree with Kara but that kid Tony is pretty good, my money's on him’
‘You’re on’ I smirked ‘Same wager?’
Ryker groaned, he’d lost the past 5 years and the loser had to supervise the young dragon training for a month. Training the new dragons was a nightmare. They often lost control, and you’d have to shift and calm things down, most of the time having to fight them to knock them down a peg, which is why the fights today had most of my guards present.
The kids could fight in their human or dragon forms, but if they lost control in their dragon forms, the guards were needed to deescalate things.
I’d stationed a good majority of them near my private seating because I wanted to make sure my girls were safe if something happened.
It wasn’t long before my head Warrior, Axel began announcing the children who would be fighting, and I finally smelt my girl's scents.
I smiled and looked around to see them walking towards us holding hands and each carrying a crown.
They were laughing and whispering to themselves as they dodged clan members rushing to take a seat but when the guard opened the gate for them, I noticed Casey look over at me and frown angrily.
What was wrong?
‘Your crown sir’ Ava announced proudly as she held it up for me to display,
It was made of dark green vines with golden flowers woven through it.
‘Very nice’ I smiled and reached forward for her to place it on my head, which she did.
‘What’s all of this?’ Ryker laughed as he turned and looked at us ‘Where’s mine?’
‘The King wanted a new crown’ Ava explained before turning to Casey, who was still frowning, and I realized it wasn’t me she was angry with, she was glaring at Selene, oh, I realized she was still sitting in Casey’s seat ‘So we made it a competition to see who’s he liked better, Casey, show him your one’
‘I forfeit’ She commented and turned to Ryker ‘Here you go, Beta Ryker’ She said and placed it on his head and I felt my blood boil ‘You can have this one, if that’s okay Lady Lenore’
‘Of course sweet child’ She said kindly and adjusted the crown on her mate, so it was sitting straighter ‘Very dashing’
‘Thank you, Casey’ Ryker said as he nervously looked at me ‘But you made this for the King, it wouldn’t be right for me to keep it’
‘The King has enough crowns’ Casey commented.
I looked at the crown. It was made from vines like Ava’s but with pale blue and white flowers.
‘What are you doing?’ Ava said softly as she looked at her sister.
‘Nothing’ She said grumpily and looked at Selene ‘You’re in my seat, move!’
The adults fell silent as Selene looked at me ‘Oh, sorry Celestial Casidy’ She said sweetly ‘I was just entertaining the King, my apologies’
Once Selene stood up Casey lifted her hand and a small gust of wind flew out and hit the chair and Selene’s scent vanished from the surrounding area before Casey sat down and glared at the arena.
Ava looked at her sister with concern before she sat down on my other side and started fidgeting with a small seed she was holding.
‘You found a new seed for your garden I see’
‘Casey found it on the ground and gave it to me’ She said excitedly ‘I don’t know what tree it’s from so I’m going to plant it tonight after the fights’
‘Excuse me Ladies Ava and Casey’ The waiter came over to us ‘Would you like something to drink?’
‘A water please’ Casey smiled at him before turning back to the area again.
‘Can I have a wine?’ Ava asked me, I didn’t allow the girls to drink often, and they would often get grumpy that other hatchlings were allowed, while I refused to let them, but I couldn't risk them getting tipsy and fooling around with someone.
‘Just one’ I said firmly, and she jumped excitedly ‘Casey would you like one?’
‘No, thank you’ She shook her head and continued to look at the children in the arena.
Drums sounded loudly, and the crowd began to cheer as the first two contestants took center stage.
While there was a lot of noise going on I turned and leaned close to Casey, who tensed and looked up at me.
‘I’m sorry Selene was in your seat’ I whispered lowly, so we wouldn’t be overheard ‘I forgot she was there’ I added and brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear ‘Please don’t be upset’
‘I’m not’ She lied ‘You can sit with whomever you wish your majesty, it’s none of my business’
‘You and Ava are who I wish to sit with’ I told her, and she blushed a little ‘Why do you think your seats are next to mine and you ow me a crown’
I winked at her and sat back in place to see the fight had already begun, Casey seemed to cheer up again after our conversation and after a few fights she stood up and leaned against the railing to get a better view.
