CHAPTER 2 - AIDEN'S POV - THE LANTERNS

3695 Words
I led the girls from their suite and towards the western gate where the carriage was waiting. I helped each of them inside before the guard arrived with my cloak. 'Will this one be okay, your majesty?' He asked as he walked towards me, pulling his clothing back on, so I pulled the curtain shut on the carriage, so the girls wouldn't see him naked. 'Yes, thank you' I said and put it on 'Follow behind us in secret, do not let the villagers know you're guarding the girls and if you see anything suspicious, inform me at once' 'Yes sir' He bowed as I climbed into the carriage. The girls were sitting on one side of the carriage holding hands on Ava's lap, what I wouldn't give to touch them. 'I’m so excited!' Ava giggled and bounced in her seat and shook Casidy, who smirked and shoved her sister off. 'Would you stop' She scolded her in amusement and fixed up her cloak, drawing my eyes to her chest I bit the bottom of my lip and felt a huge hunger to reach over and rip her dress off, before coming to my senses, I cleared my throat and shifted in my chair and pulled my cloak over my hardened c*ck so the girls wouldn't notice. 'Is something wrong, your majesty?' Ava asked as she reached out and touched my arm, a very bad decision as I was already turned on and her touch only added to it. 'No Ava dear' I smiled and pulled my arm free of her touch 'While we're in the village, don't use my title, call me Aiden'' 'Really' Ava smiled happily 'Okay' 'But it's not appropriate' Casidy said as Ava rolled her eyes at her sister. 'Casey, no one’s going to know' She pointed out 'It could be our secret'' I watched Ava slip her fingers through Casidy’s fingers and rub her thumb along her hand. Casidy blushed and looked down, and it made my fantasies go wild, Did the girls have other secrets. Is that what Ava was implying? The way she held her sister's hand made it seem more than just a sisterly act. Surely they hadn't touched yet, they were meant to wait for me, I wanted to be the first to touch them but if they'd been intimate together it made me jealous and extremely turned on. 'Does that mean you have other secret girls?' I asked 'Because I would love to hear one' Ava giggled 'You shouldn't ask ladies about their secrets' She scolded me 'Didn’t nanny teach you proper manners, your majesty?' Casidy asked with a shy smile 'I should tell her that you asked us something personal like that, you'll be the one over her knee and not me' I laughed and lent back comfortably 'I apologize, please don't dob me in, I had enough spankings growing up' 'So did I' Casidy complained. 'I didn't' Ava joked and stuck her tongue out at her sister 'Some of us behaved' 'Yes you were always my good girl' I told her, knowing she wouldn't understand the s*xtual context of my comment 'Unlike your sister' 'I never did anything, your majesty' She lied and crossed her arms 'Nanny was to strict' I laughed again and leaned forward 'Well, I'm a lot stricter than nanny, so if you use my title again tonight, I will be the one taking you over my knee, and trust me, I won't be as gentle as nanny was' Casidy’s eyes widened, and she pressed her thighs together as she blushed and looked down at her lap. Did I turn her on with that comment? I hoped so, the two of them had been torturing me for years, it was my turn to return the favor. 'You shouldn't talk like that' Casidy said softly and kept her eyes on her lap as Ava giggled and peaked out the window. 'Forgive me' I smiled to myself 'I won't misspeak again’ 'Ahhh!' Ava squealed, and the tension vanished 'We're here' I looked out as well to see that we were going through the final gate where guards were checking carriages, upon seeing the royal carriage, however, one of the guards rushed over and bowed as I looked out of the window. 'Good evening your majesty' He said cheerfully 'Are you going to the festival?' 'My destination or plans are none of your concern' I told him firmly 'Now open the gate and be quick' 'Yes sir' I closed the curtain again to see both girls glaring at me. 'What?' I asked in confusion 'Have you changed your minds?' 'You didn't have to yell at him' Ava scolded me, and I was taken aback. 'He was just excited to see you' Casidy added 'He wasn't trying to pry' I smiled, so this is what it would be like with two mates. If they were both annoyed, I'd get double the scolding. 'If it got out that I was going to the festival' I explained as the carriage began to move again 'It could be dangerous for you both, I was simply trying to keep you both safe' 'Oh' Casidy said and leaned back. 'You still didn't have to be so mean' Ava commented. 'Perhaps' I brushed her off 'Now, both of you put your hoods up and don't let them fall, I really shouldn't have agreed to this' 'But you did, so you can't go back on it now!' Ava said quickly as the girls pulled up their hoods. 'Never' I smiled and reached over to adjust Casidy’s hood and tuck some of her thick red hair behind her ear 'Do you have a clip to pull your hair back?' Casidy blushed and moved back 'I don't need one, I will keep my hair covered' 'I wish you'd use the diamond clips and hair ornaments I give you' I commented, I'd never said anything before but it did hurt a little. 'I don't like flashy things' She shrugged 'Besides' Ava chimed in 'That means more for me' The girls giggled and Ava lent over and kissed Casidy on the cheek before taking her hand, did I imagine Casidy’s reaction to Ava's kiss? Had she shivered excitedly or was I just hoping that was her reaction. The carriage pulled off down a dark alley and came to a stop. 'Eek!' Ava said eagerly and reached for the door, but I growled and exhaled smoke from my nose and she froze. 'You will stay by my side' I told them sternly 'And I am addressing you the most Ava, no running around' 'Yes sir' She pouted, Casidy laughed and nudged Ava as I opened the carriage door and stepped down. I could hear the crowd of villagers and the music from the alley, and it made me nervous, I knew if anything happened I'd die to protect my girl's, but I was hoping it wouldn't come to that. I reached out my hand and the girls each took turns to take my hand and climb down before they held hands again and looked over at me as I pulled my hood up. 'Give the horses some water and stay with the carriage' I told the driver 'Yes your majesty' I reached out and eagerly took Ava's hand, and she blushed a little, I loved that I could give the girls this kind of reaction and I loved even more that I had an excuse to touch one of them. Once we hit the main street full of villagers, Chastity looked around excitedly and pointed to one of the food stalls. 'Your maj... um.. Aiden' She corrected herself before calling me by my title 'Can we have one of those?' I smiled and nodded, and Casidy pulled us along through the crowd to the food stall where they were selling rabbit kababs. Even though I was planning on having dinner privately with my girls this evening, I still kept gold on me which I was grateful of because I knew this wouldn't be the only food I'd be buying the girls. A few men in dark blue cloaks barged through the crowd around us and I quickly pulled Ava closer and she snuggled up against me, so she wouldn't get jostled by them. I panicked when I looked over to pull Casidy closer but I was too late, she stepped forward and shoved one of the men who had nearly knocked into her. 'Watch it jerk!' she snarled, and I felt her power increase...sh*t 'And move, the back of the line is over there!' I tensed and got ready to attack the men or show them who I was if they tried anything but they looked down at Casidy who only came up to their shoulders and seemed to pale. 'Sorry hatchling' The biggest one rose his hands 'Our mistake' I relaxed as they began to move behind everyone else in line who seemed thrilled that Casidy had scolded them but my heart was still racing. 'Never get in the way of a hungry hatchling' I heard a man behind me laugh to his mate who he had tucked under his arm. 'Hello' Ava waved to the vender when he turned to us in line. 'Three' I ordered 'Please!' Casidy added as I pulled out my coin pouch and lent closer to her. 'Do not do that again' I whispered to her, and she looked up at me with her gorgeous silver blue eyes 'We are meant to be keeping a low profile. I can't do that if I need to fight everyone you yell at, behave' Casidy pouted and crossed her arms. 'They started it' She defended herself 'How are they going to learn if everyone just lets them push in all the time’ I shook my head in amusement and passed over some gold coins to the vender as Ava took the kababs. 'Keep the change' I said and began to pull both girls with me to a quieter area, I wanted them out of there in case the men changed their minds. 'Here Casey' Ava passed her one of the Kababs 'Aiden' She added and smiled, she was enjoying using my name. I took my kabab and took a bite. It was very good. 'Yum' Casidy praised the food and took a second big bite 'This spice is delicious, we should take one home for chef Brandon and see if he can re-create it' 'I am sure he'll love that' I commented and took another bite myself, finishing the entire kabab, our head chef in the castle was a very temperamental man who hated people putting in demands. He barely let me get away with it, and I was his King. 'I don't like it' Ava told us and held it out 'It’s too spicy, do you want it' 'Yes' Casidy and I said together and laughed. 'You can have it' She said, but I smiled, but I shook my head. 'No, you have it' I said, and passed it to her. She smiled and took a bite before passing it to me. 'We can share' She told me and I took the kababs back 'Do you want to try something else Ava, they have beef pastry’s over there, you like them' 'Is that okay, Aiden?' Ava asked. 'Sure' I said easily and passed the final piece of the kabab back to Casidy, who took it eagerly and ate it as we headed to the next stall. Ava enjoyed the beef pastry a lot better than the kabab which I was happy about, she really was so little, she needed to eat more. For the next hour, the girls dragged me from stall to stall trying the foods and candies before we headed through the noisy crowd to the merchant stalls. Nothing seemed to catch Casidy's eye, but Ava pointed this way and that, at all the jewelry and ornaments that caught her eye. I bought her everything she liked, but I felt bad that I hadn't gotten anything for Casidy except for food, but every time I suggested something she would shake her head. It wasn't until Ava pulled us to a stall full of clear gems that I saw Casidy touch something. I looked over her shoulder and noticed her looking at a small glass gem that had pretty white flowers inside. It was connected to a small chain and clip. 'How do you get the flowers inside?' She asked the old dragon who was sitting next to an open blue flame. He explained to her about heating the glass and how the gems were made, Casidy was so engaged she didn't notice me buy the gem that had caught her eye, but when we left the stall, I grabbed her by the wrist. 'Is something wrong?' She asked, I held up the gem and clipped it to top of her dress, ignoring the desire's that began running through my mind at being so close to her firm breast. 'Thank you' She smiled and looked down at the gem happily. She really was going to be hard to buy for, I wanted to spoil them once they were mine, but she never liked anything. Ava, on the other hand, who was holding several wrapped parcels and already pointing to another stall full of ribbons, would be extremely easy to buy to, the girl loved everything. It was a good thing I was rich. After another hour, all three of us were weighed down with all of Ava's birthday presents and two books Casidy had liked, so I told them we'd take everything back to the carriage before going to the lantern event. We returned to the festival free of gifts and began to walk back through the crowd. I was holding each of the girl’s hands but I felt Casidy pause and look uncomfortable. She groaned and held her head and Ava quickly rushed to her side. 'Casey?' She panicked 'Are you sick, I told you not to eat so much?' My heart raced and moved closer to her as she shook her head. 'Vision' She whispered as her body began to shake.. sh*t Her eyes began to glow, so I quickly pulled her and Ava into my arms and hid Casidy with my cloak so no one would see her eyes glowing. 'Just breath' Ava whispered as Casidy began moaning in pain, her body was burning up, and she was gripping hold of my shirt so hard that her knuckles were turning white. 'Its okay Casey' I soothed her and kissed her forehead before I realized what I'd done. Luckily, neither girl seemed to think anything about my action Finally, mercifully, Casidy relaxed, but she was breathing hard. I lifted her face and growled in pain when I saw blood dripping from her eyes, Ava gasped and held her hands up to her mouth as tears filled her eyes. 'I’m okay Ava' Casidy soothed her, but her voice was weak. 'We're leaving' I told them as I pulled a clean handkerchief from my pocket and began to gently wipe her eyes. 'But Ava wanted to see the lanterns' 'I will see them next time' Ava told her 'You need to rest' Once the blood was gone, I put the bloodied handkerchief back into my pocket and lifted Casidy bridal style and took Ava's hand before taking us back to the carriage. 'People are looking' Casidy said and hid her face against my chest 'I can walk' 'Don’t be ridiculous' I rolled my eyes 'Just rest' When we returned to the carriage, the driver looked concerned that Casidy was hurt but he didn't say anything, he just jumped down and pulled open the door. 'Thank you' Ava smiled at the man and climbed in before I gently placed Casey down and helped her climb inside. When I entered the carriage, Ava was pulling Casidy down onto her lap to rest, so I sat opposite them again. I leaned forward and gently ran my fingers down her cheek as she rested her head on her sister's lap. 'Are you feeling better?' 'A little' She answered as Ava pulled Casidy’s hood back and began to run her fingers through her hair in comfort. 'It's not fare, it doesn't hurt Ava when she uses her powers, not that I'd want her to be pain' She added 'But why do mine hurt me?' I smiled sadly at her and lent back, I wished I could be the one holding her in comfort but she wasn't officially mine yet, I had to keep my distance. 'You and Ava are like two sides to one coin' I explained 'Both the same and yet both different. Ava's a healer and her powers give life like when she grows plants. Her powers are light and peaceful, but your powers are darker, your body needs to grow strong in order to contain the power you use, it's why your training is a little intense. I know you don't like it but it's for your own good' She nodded and closed her eyes. 'What did you see, Casey?' Ava asked, and I realized that I had been so focused on her being in pain that I completely forgot that she'd seen something. 'It was strange' She said, her eyes still closed 'Just flashes, I saw a man and the royal crest, and a gray dragon with black scales around his left paw. I don't know who he is, but I got this feeling like he can't be trusted' 'You say he is gray with black scales on his left paw?' 'Yes' I frowned and sat back 'Did his human form have a scar under his right eye?' 'Yes' She answered and looked at me 'Do you know him?' 'That is my youngest brother Nolan' I told them 'He has been away at war for years in the witch realm, but he is returning next year, I don't know why you'd feel he couldn't be trusted though, he has always been a pain, but he isn't a threat' 'Are you sure?' Ava asked, her face was concerned 'What if he tries to hurt you?' I smiled and shook my head. 'Thank you for worrying about me, but he can't harm me, I'm stronger than he is' 'If he wasn't dangerous, Casey wouldn't have had a vision about him, she only sees important things' I looked back down at Casidy, who looked like she was asleep now 'I will keep an eye on him when he returns' I told her 'Now please put it out of your mind' Ava sighed and leaned back and closed her eyes as she continued to run her fingers through her twin's hair. They were so beautiful. What would I have done if they'd died the day I found them? Would I have had the strength to go on, or would I have killed myself? I knew without a doubt that if I lost them now, that is exactly what I'd do, I hadn't waited years to have them just to be denied when I was so close. Would my brother be the threat the girls thought he was, would I be forced to kill another brother. He'd never tried to harm me or even mention wanting to take the throne. Perhaps it was the girls he was a threat to and not me, if he even tried to harm them, I'd kill him instantly, but I just didn't see him trying anything, there had to be something more to the vision. I watched the girls as we rode back. It was so nice to be able to look at them. I would always have to avert my gaze when they were around, so I wouldn't give away my longing, but as they both had their eyes closed I was safe to look at them as much as I liked. When the carriage stopped, Ava opened her eyes but Casidy remained asleep. 'I will carry her' I told her quickly, eager to have her in my arms again. I picked her up and slowly exited the carriage before waving to a guard who came running over. 'Help Ava with her parcels' I told him as I offered Ava my hand to climb out of the carriage. 'Yes sir' He said as he looked over Casidy in my arms. 'Is celestial Casidy alright?' I suppressed a growl, how dare he ask about my mates. 'She was tired and fell asleep' I lied as Ava started piling up her parcels in the guard's hands who looked amused by her hoard. Once they had collected everything from the carriage, we walked in silence to their wing and I enjoyed how my mate snuggled up against my chest and pressed her face into my throat, her warm breath against my marking spot was quickly turning me on, and I had to keep reminding myself she was only 16, and I had to behave. 'Please put everything on the sofa' I told the guard, there was no way I'd allow any man but me into their bed chambers 'And return to your post' 'Yes your majesty' He said and did as I'd ordered while I followed Ava to the bedroom. Ava pulled Casidy’s bed quilt down 'Please lay her down, I will remove her clothing once you've gone' I instantly wanted to offer to help her as I laid my girl down, the warmth she'd filled my arms with was vanishing quickly, and I didn't want to leave them. 'Thank you for taking us to the festival and for all our gifts' Ava smiled and hugged me 'I know you worry about our safety, but it means so much to us that we got to go' 'I am happy that you had a good birthday' I said, and reluctantly let her go 'Go straight to bed, it's late' 'Yes your majesty' She smiled and bowed. I guess our private evening together as equals was finally over, and I was back to just being their King, at least for now, only 3 more years.
