CHAPTER 4 - AIDEN'S POV - FIRST KILL

4358 Words
It was finally time for Rykers challenger Tony to step up. If he won this match, he’d fight Lathen head to head as he’d already won his challenge. He managed to get the upper hand, but then I noticed him looking over at my seating area and his eyes locked on Casey. What was this kid up to? Did he have a crush on her? Was he happy she was so engaged in his fight? Tony gave a loud roar as he rose up on his hind legs and tail and flapped his wings out in front of himself as if he was clapping his hands. No new hatchling should be able to do that move, it takes a hell of a lot of strength and coordination, there was something off with this kid. Tony’s challenger was thrown back by the force of the wind it caused and was slammed down inches from the railing Casey was leaning on, but it was the wind force I was more concerned with. It hit Casidy hard, she tried to re-direct it with her powers and she did manage to protect the rest of us, but most of it still hit her and knocked her back. ‘CASEY!’ I shouted She gasped, and I flew out of my chair in time to catch her before she fell, but she still hit my chest pretty hard and groaned. Ava screamed and rushed over to us where I was kneeling and holding my girl close as she took deep breaths. ‘Are you okay?’ She asked frantically as she sat down in front of me and cupped her sister's face in her hands and pressed her forehead against Caseys ‘I’m here, it’s okay, just take deep breaths, do you need me to heal you?’ ‘No’ Casey said breathlessly and shook her head. A huge part of me was concerned that Casey was hurt, but I couldn’t help the other part of my mind going over s*xtual scenarios. I loved the girls in my arms like this, and I couldn’t help the feeling of ecstasy caused from the electric current rushing all over my skin where the girls touched me. ‘How is she?’ Ryker asked, and I realised the rest of the guests in my seating area were looking at us... sh*t, I could feel my c*ck hardening underneath Caseys arse, so I gently stood her up. ‘Are you okay Casey?’ ‘Yes’ She nodded and Ava held her hand. ‘Come sit back down’ Ava ordered, but then she frowned and looked at Casey’s back ‘Oh no, your ribbon tore when you fell, the back of your dress is open, we should go get a new one’ ‘Okay’ Casey blushed, but I frowned and looked at her back. Even though she was wearing a silk slip under her dress, I still didn’t like the back of her dress open in front of the thunder, so I pulled off my jacket and held it up. ‘Put this on until you can change your dress’ ‘Thank you, your majesty,’ She smiled and pulled it on ‘Would you like some help returning to your suite?’ Selene asked nicely ‘No, thank you’ Casey glared at her. I didn’t understand why she hated Selene so much. Selene was only 5 years older than the girls so they’d grown up together, but when Casey’s visions began, she turned cold towards Selene, had she witness some future falling out between them, or had she noticed her stupid crush on me? Was she jealous? ‘Are you sure’ She asked ‘You got the wind knocked out of you pretty hard, you might need help walking’ ‘I can help my own sister’ Ava said angrily before looking at Casey and brushing her hair over her shoulder ‘She doesn’t need anyone but me, are you ready?’ Casey nodded, and together they walked out of my seating area with their guards close by, I hated leaving Casey after was hurt, but it wasn’t like I could help her change and I had to stay with the fights. ‘Luke’ I called to one of my guards close by who turned and walked over to me ‘Get me that last fighter Tony’ ‘Yes your majesty’ He bowed and rushed off. ‘Are you thinking the same thing?’ Ryker asked as he looked back at me ‘Or are you just going to beat him for hurting Casey?’ ‘Both’ I responded, and looked into the arena. Even though Tony had won his match, he wasn’t in the line-up with the other winners. Why had he left? Ryker smiled ‘No hatchling can perform that move, he clearly lied about his age, but why?’ ‘You aren’t really going to hurt him are you your majesty?’ Selene asked ‘He didn’t mean to hurt celestial Casey, it was an accident, and she shouldn’t have been leaning over the railing’ ‘Hold your tongue girl’ Her father snapped, and she looked down ‘If it wasn’t for Casey we all would have been knocked onto the dirt’ He added before turning back to me ‘He looked directly at her before he performed that move, he wanted to hurt her, or at the least, see what she was capable of’ ‘I thought the same thing’ I agreed before turning to Selene ‘And I will punish anyone who tries to hurt the twins, accidentally or otherwise. The entire clan know how important they are, I will not allow harm to come to them’ Another whole fight had come and gone before Luke returned empty handed ‘I’m sorry your majesty but no one can find him. He won his fight and took off. Someone thought he’d gone back towards the castle but I lost his scent near one of the courtyards’ ‘Which courtyard?’ I asked and stood up again ‘The one near the twin's wing?’ ‘Yes actually’ He answered. ‘Ryker come with me’ I rushed out of the arena and pulled off my pants, I didn’t mind losing the shirt and I shifted, I wanted to get to the girls quickly, something was going on, and I needed to know they were safe. Ryker and Luke copied me, and together we flew back to the castle, taking only seconds, and we landed in the courtyard and I shifted back. After I’d pulled on my pants I sniffed the air and looked around, his scent had been here, but it was gone now, he must have come here and then flown off. ‘Search the area again and’ ‘FIRE!’ A guard shouted and an alarm sounded. ‘F*ck!’ I gasped and ran directly toward the girl's suite. I’d only come up one staircase that opened into another smaller garden that Ava loved, only to find the girls on the ground surrounded by Casey’s fire. Two guards were holding down a struggling burnt man while the boy Tony, laid dead and burnt in his human form. I ran straight for the girl's, Ava was lying in Casey’s arms holding her own burnt arm and crying. ‘I’m sorry’ Casey was crying as she pressed her face into Ava’s throat ‘I’m sorry, I’m so sorry Ava’ ‘Casey!’ I shouted, and she looked up at me as I shielded my face from the flames. She’d obviously started a fire to keep her and her sister safe inside, Casey’s flame was very unique. Not even dragons could withstand it ‘Stop the fire!’ Casey looked at me in agony as tears fell down her face, but she held up her hand and the flames died out, I could hear Ryker shouting at the guards and the prisoner, ordering him to be moved to the dungeons. We would deal with later. I ran straight to the girls and felt on my knees ‘Ava!’ I shouted and tried to take her from Casey, but she screamed and pulled her closer. ‘DON’T!’ ‘Casey please, I have to heal her’ I tried to stay calm, but my heart was racing and my dragon half was on edge, I gently touched her cheek ‘Please, I won’t hurt her, let me have her’ Casey began to cry again, but she shakily let go of Ava and I took her arm in my hands and healed her. It took a lot of my energy because of how severe the burn was and because it was Casey’s fire that had done the damage, but finally her arm was perfect again. ‘Ava’ Casey said happily, and hugged her sister and I couldn’t help but wrap my arms around the both of them and press my face in Casey's hair, but all I could smell was Tony’s scent. ‘What happened?’ I asked as I leaned back. Casey sat up, and I reached over and wiped her face with my thumb as Ryker joined us and lent down. ‘We were leaving our suite, but Ava wanted to put her seed in the garden on the way back but that man from the fight, he came over to us with his friend. He said he was sorry and didn’t mean to hurt me, but Ava said he was lying, he wasn’t sorry’ Ava took a deep breath and pressed her face into my chest. Was my scent soothing her? Good, I hoped so, I held her tighter and rocked her gently. ‘And then what, Casey?’ She sniffed and started rubbing Ava’s back in comfort ‘I told him I accepted his apology but that he shouldn’t be in our private wing, and we tried to walk around him, but he stepped in front of me and asked if we wanted to go for a walk to celebrate his win, but I said no because we had to be at the ranking ceremony, but he got angry and said I was being a b*tch’ ‘That’s when our guards started coming closer and ordered them to leave’ She went on ‘But when they refused, our guards told us to come. But when I went to walk around him again, Tony grabbed my arm. The guards came over and shoved him away’ She took a shaky breath and looked over at her two guards. One looked dead but the other seemed to have been knocked on the ground, I hadn’t even noticed their bodies. More tears fell down her face ‘The other man grabbed my guard, Robert, and blew something into his face that made him pass out and Tony stabbed Ava’s guard before they grabbed us. I didn’t mean to, I tried to use my wind but…’ She paused and started crying again, and my heart broke for her ‘It just exploded out of me and Tony caught fire, so did his friend and Ava, but I grabbed her and put the fire out but.. she can’t heal herself and I.. I’m sorry, I killed him’ She looked down at her knees and wept, so I quickly pulled her back against myself and Ava. ‘It’s okay’ I said softly and kissed her head ‘You did nothing wrong, you saved yourself and Ava’ ‘I could have killed her’ She wept and hugged her sister tighter ‘Ava please, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to, I’m sorry’ ‘It’s okay Casey’ She spoke for the first time, but her voice was strained from crying ‘I’m okay, I promise’ I held the girls close, and I never wanted to let them go. How the f*ck had this happened? How had Tony snuck into the arena fights? It was beyond obvious now that he was a rogue and yet, he didn’t smell like one. Most rogues had a specific scent, it was how we identified those who had rejected me and the clan, but Tony didn’t have that scent. ‘We should get the girls into the warmth, your majesty’ Ryker suggested cautiously ‘Perhaps a hot bath would help, and I’ve already sent one of the guards to get nanny Colleen. She should be here any moment, she can look after the girls, and we can speak with the prisoner’ ‘You really expect me to willingly leave my mates after what just happened’ I linked him angrily and didn’t move ‘They could have been killed, how dare you even suggest it!’ ‘Please Aiden’ He pleaded ‘The girls are in shock, they need to get into the warmth, not to mention the fact that word will have gotten out about the kidnapping. We need to get them into their suite and away from the crowd’ I groaned and glared up at him. I hated it when he was right ‘Girls’ I said reluctantly, and lent back ‘Rykers correct, you need some warmth, we’ll take you to your bedroom. Can you walk?’ ‘Yes’ Casey sniffed again and wiped her face on her sleeve, but Ava shook her head, she was still shaking and Casey looked at her in pain as more tears filled her eyes again. ‘Casey?’ Ryker offered her his hand, and she slowly took it and rose from the ground while I lifted myself and Ava and carried her bridal side, and we began to walk back towards the girl's wing. I was completely surprised when Casey pulled free of Ryker and rushed after me. She moved as close to me as she could, which wasn’t like her. She preferred to keep her distance from me, which often hurt, but it dawned on me that even though she couldn’t feel the mate bond yet, she would have still felt safer by my side, so I adjusted how I was holding Ava so I had a free hand and I reached out to hold Casey's. She smiled sadly at me and I squeezed her hand tighter as I led everyone to the main doors of their suite. The guards looked panicked and quickly opened the doors ‘No one but nanny comes in until I say otherwise, is that clear’ ‘Yes your majesty’ We walked inside in silence except for the occasional sniff from Casey, but when we reached the girl's bedroom I paused and looked at my Beta. ‘Wait in the girl's sitting room’ I ordered. Men were not allowed in here, not even my Beta who was mated He nodded and turned around while I pulled the girls inside. The girl's room always showed me just how different the girls were, Caseys side was completely ordered and neat, while Ava’s side was a complete disaster with clothes and jewelry thrown around. I sat Ava down on the edge of her bed and Casey sat beside her and the girls hugged. ‘I will draw your bath’ I told them ‘I want you to wash up and go straight to bed to rest’ They nodded but didn’t say anything and I walked into their massive bathroom and turned on the hot water for their huge pool sized bath. The girls never liked to swim growing up. I thought it might have something to do with trauma from when their parents tried to drown them, even if the girls were to young to remember, it must have still stayed with them, and they just didn’t understand where that fear of water had come from, so in order to try and entice them to like the water, I’d made sure their tub was big enough to swim around in, and it had worked, they love the water now. I looked around the shelving by the tub and found some sweet smelling liquids and poured in a few, while I was preparing the water I heard Casey singing softly to her sister and I smiled, she really did have a beautiful voice. After I placed several towels beside the tub, I went back to the girls ‘Come on’ I ordered and helped them stand up and walked them into the bathroom. What I wouldn’t give to join them. I turned off the tap and turned back to them ‘Please bathe’ I said gently ‘I will wait in the bedroom, nanny should be here soon’ Ava nodded but Casey looked at me ‘Um.. your majesty’ She said shyly ‘Your coat is on my bed if you want it’ ‘Oh?’ I said, and then I remembered I was shirtless ‘Thank you, Casey, enjoy your bath, the warm water will help, I promise’ I walked out of the bathroom and bedroom and went past the sitting room towards the kitchen and began to make them some warm tea. ‘You’re not going to be happy’ Ryker followed me into the kitchen. ‘I’m already unhappy’ I pointed out ‘What’s happened now?’ Ryker sighed and leaned against the door frame ‘The b*stard we took to the dungeons is dead’ ‘What?’ I paused by the stove top where I sat the pot of water ‘How?’ ‘His injuries were too severe’ He answered ‘I’d had a healer go to him but he was dead by the time she reached him, Caseys fire is no joke is it’ ‘No, it isn’t’ I agreed ‘Ava is lucky she wasn’t more injured’ ‘It’s not Caseys fault’ I growled and smoke came from my nose and Ryker stood up straight ‘You think I don’t know that!’ I shouted ‘I wasn’t blaming Casey, if it wasn’t for her, they’d probably be dead already, I’ ‘I’m sorry’ My Beta said quickly, interrupting me ‘You know I never meant it like that, I just’ The door to the suites opened and closed, and I heard running ‘Casey, Ava?!’ I left the kitchen to see nanny running down the hall but when she saw me, she froze ‘Your majesty, what happened?’ ‘Come in and have some tea’ I told her, but when she joined us in the kitchen she told me to sit down and she continued making the tea while I filled her in on everything. ‘My goodness’ Nanny Colleen shook her head as she placed our tea on the table where we were now sitting ‘And you say Casey killed these men?’ ‘She only knows about one’ I answered ‘She doesn’t need to know the other man died, but either way she’s not going to have an easy time with it. She pretends to be strong, but deep down I know she’s gentle. I wish I could stay with her this evening. She’ll probably have nightmares, they both might’ ‘I will stay with them this evening’ Nanny assured me ‘I won’t leave them alone’ ‘Thank you’ I sighed in relief ‘And they are not to leave their suite for the rest of the week, I’m going to have the territory searched, and I won’t have them out again until I know it’s safe’ ‘I understand’ She said and took a sip of her tea ‘Casey’s not going to like it though, you know how much she hates being trapped inside’ ‘I know’ I smiled. I couldn’t help but remember Casey at age 9, she had gotten into a fight with nanny and decided she was going to run away because she hated being trapped in the castle, and of course, she was taking Ava with her but they only made it to the boarder gate before I found them, but even then she’d refused to come back so I had to throw her over my shoulder and carry her kicking and screaming the whole way back. She didn’t speak to me for an entire month until I brought her glow in the dark paints from the Fae realm. She loved to paint, and it won her over, but over the years she’d often complained about wanting her freedom. This actually terrified me more than I let anyone know. What if she rejected me because she didn’t want to stay locked up in the castle with me. ‘I doubt she’ll want to go anywhere right now’ Ryker commented ‘Nor will Ava’ ‘I should go check on them’ Nanny placed her half-drunken tea down ‘I will wait until they’re in bed before leaving’ I told her ‘So let me know when they’re dressed’ ‘Yes sir’ She patted my shoulder gently as she passed me and went to the girls. After speaking with Ryker to organize a search party for the territory, he left to get it started while I started pacing up and down the hallway outside the girl's bedroom. It had been an hour since their bath began. Surely they were dressed by now, what was taking them so long, I couldn’t wait until they were mine, I could see them naked, I’d be allowed to just go in their bedroom. Finally, the door opened and nanny came out looking troubled and closed the door behind her ‘The girls are in bed, your majesty’ She said softly ‘But Casey is very weak. Using her powers has taken it’s toll and during her bath she had a vision’ ‘A vision?’ I frowned, great, just what she needed ‘What was it about?’ ‘She said she saw a poisoned arrow’ Nanny told me ‘It was on the ground covered in blood and there was a girls hand laying by it. She couldn’t see who it was or anyone else because the rest of the vision was blurred’ ‘Strange’ I commented ‘But her visions are sometimes connected. Perhaps this poisoned arrow has something to do with the men that attacked today. I doubt they were acting on their own. Someone must have sent them, they might try again’ ‘What if the girl's hand belonged to one of the twins?’ She asked. I felt my heart clench ‘It doesn’t’ I told her, though I really had no way of knowing ‘I will never let anyone hurt them again, I’m going to speak with them, give us some privacy’ ‘Yes sir’ She said as I walked past her. I knocked gently before pushing the door open. The girls were curled up together in Casey bed. Casey was snuggled against Ava with her face pressed against her throat while Ava ran her fingers through Casidy’s gorgeous red hair, but when they saw it was me they both sat up against the head board. Ava seemed perfectly at ease with me seeing them in such little clothing, but Casey blushed and pulled the blanket up to her chin. I smiled and sat down beside Ava ‘How are you both feeling?’ ‘I’m completely okay now’ Ava smiled, she was always the sunshine I needed, nothing ever kept her down for long ‘But Casey feels sick, she threw up a few times’ ‘Ava don’t tell him that, it’s gross’ Casey ordered, but I shook my head. ‘It doesn’t bother me’ I told her and reached over to feel her head ‘You’re a little warm, I’ll have nanny bring you something to help’ ‘She’s already getting her something’ Ava told me and leaned closer to me. I tensed a little when I briefly saw down her cotton slip, so I quickly looked away when I felt myself get turned on at the site of her delicious-looking t*ts. It didn’t help me calm down when she reached over and ran her fingers through my hair ‘Your hair's all messy’ She told me with a cheeky smile. I took her hand and kissed it ‘It doesn’t matter’ I told her ‘You need to rest, so please lay back and cover up’ Ava giggled and looked at her slip ‘I don’t know why everyone gets so weird about women in our underdresses’ She commented and pulled the blanket up ‘You can’t see anything, it’s the same as wearing a dress’ ‘No it isn’t’ I told her firmly ‘So don’t ever let anyone see you like this’ I smirked and turned to Casey ‘Nanny told me about your vision. If you see anything more, please tell me’ She nodded, and then she closed her eyes and her face scrunched up in pain, sh*t. I got up and quickly walked around the bed and gently pushed her back down. ‘Lay down and rest’ I told her as I moved her thick hair out of her face and knelt down beside her ‘You may have nightmares tonight’ I warned her, and she looked away sadly ‘What you had to do today wasn’t easy, and it will stay with you but please Casidy, don’t blame yourself, you didn’t do anything wrong’ ‘I killed him’ The pain in her voice really broke me, I hated that I couldn’t take this pain away for her, she had to feel her way through it. Ava turned and hugged up against Casey ‘You saved us’ She told her twin ‘We’re safe because of you’ ‘Because of me you got hurt’ She argued gently ‘Why can’t I control me stupid powers, you can control yours, but I keep messing up’ ‘You’re not’ Ava argued, but Casey gave an annoyed huff. ‘Stop’ She said ‘I don’t want to talk anymore’ ‘Okay’ I smiled and touched her face ‘Just rest’ I lent over and kissed her forehead and then Ava’s ‘Get some sleep and I will visit you tomorrow’ ‘Goodbye Alpha Aiden’ ‘Good by your majesty’ Casey said before she turned to her other side, and pressed her face against Ava’s chest. ‘Goodbye girls’ I said and reluctantly left them even though everything inside of me was screaming at me to stay by their sides.
