Leviathan's point of view
She had been gone for the past several days and I hated it. The women they had in her place made my chambers stink and I ended up kicking her out. Her stench had covered up the sweet smell of my mates and I ended up spending as much time as I could near her home. Today she was returning and I waited patiently in my room. I needed to see her.
It felt like she was taking forever to get here and I began to pace, plus bite my finger nails. I have never bit my nails before but here I was doing it. Suddenly, my door opened and I stopped pacing. I looked at her as she walked in, not noticing me, and I sniffed the air. Her scent began to fill the room and I felt the anxiety in me drift away.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were in here," She suddenly said.
I couldn't find my voice and just looked at her. I needed to touch her, hold her and scent her. My instincts were strong and having her away from me for so long was driving me nuts. I might have been close to her home, but the basic instincts inside of me were screaming.
"Would you like me to come back?" She asked as she glanced at me and then looked away.
I was trying to fight the battle inside of me and my instincts won. I walked towards her and gently grabbed her by the waist. As she gasped, I hugged her and began to smell the crook between her shoulder and neck. As I inhaled, she shivered.
"I missed you," I whispered as I grabbed her even tighter, taking her in scent even more, calming the need to be near her but lighting the mating fire inside of me even more.
"I was only gone for a couple of days. Did the other cleaners not do something right?" She asked as she remained stiff in my arms.
"Yes, yes they did," I said as I pulled back and looked at her and chuckled. She had a shocked expression on her face.
"What did they do?"
I looked at her and cleared my throat. Mine as well tell her because I am not sure how much longer I could be away from her. The need to claim her and make her mine is growing by the day and just being away from her has me losing my mind.
"Come sit," I said as I turned around and walked over to the large black sofa in my room in front of the fireplace.
"Okay," she said. I could hear her footsteps behind me and as I sat down she sat in the seat furthest from me. I moved over and grabbed her hands, causing her to look at me.
"Kayla." Suddenly I felt nervous.
" Yes," she said as she looked at me.
I cleared my throat again. "I have something to tell you, but try not to freak out."
"Um, okay."
"I am not sure how to say this, but you know how dragons take mates."
"Yes."
"Your mine," I quickly said. I looked at her and waited for her to say something. Confusion crossed her face.
"I. I. I thought dragons only took dragon mates."
"Normally, yes, but there has been one case reported where a human and a dragon were mates. I am not sure if there have been others, but I know you are mine."
She quickly looked away from me as her face turned red. I couldn't help but smile at her reaction to what I said.
"I don't understand. I am not allowed a mate."
Since my right hand was free, I gently grabbed her chin, causing her to look at me. "I can't stay away from you much longer. My instincts are strong and I want you."
"But the laws," she said, making my heart beat quickly. Did she want me too?
"Laws are made to be broken," Kayla laughed. "I have Draven looking into it. I know of only one dragon who went forward with his mating and I am trying to figure out what happened to them."
Kayla quickly stood up. "What is wrong?"
"Does Draven know I am your mate?"
"He knows I have a human mate but not who. Why?"
"What do you know about me?"
"I know you live in a horrible cabin that should be torn down."
"I am not allowed a mate and if I can't get anything to grow on the land I will die. Draven is the one over seeing my case." Before I could say anything, she stormed out of the room, leaving me in silence.
"What the hell just happened," I said outloud.
I remained in my room hoping she would return but she did not and I felt myself get angry. I didn't understand why she would leave but she did. Did she not want me?
For the rest of the day I remained in a bad mood and I felt the anger in me rise. I yelled at everyone who crossed my path and when Draven tried to talk to me, I walked away from him.
That night I did not send her anything or even go near her home. I couldn't believe she walked away from me.
The next day, I made sure I was not in my room when she arrived and I stayed away from her.
"What the hell is wrong with you?" Draven said as he walked into my office.
I looked up from the papers I was reading and said, "I am fine."
"No you are not. I heard you yelled at several of the servants and even some of the men on the council."
"Well, they were out of line."
Draven walked over to the chair in front of my desk and sat down. "I have some news."
"Okay."
"I was able to get into the achieves and find some information on Brental. Brental and his mate were found at the cottage and executed. The female appeared to have the scent of a dragon. She was stronger than a normal human, moved faster and her skin was harder to penetrate through. Both Brental and his mate were killed for their actions."
"And the child?"
"There was no child found. The villages were searched and no child was ever found. If they had a child, they did not make it past birth."
"Thank you."
"What do you plan on doing about your situation? The council will not allow you to mate with a human."
"I am not sure about the matter."
"Before you act please let me know. I will support you but I need to know what I am supporting."
I looked my friend and nodded.
"Now tell me what happened."
"I told her she was my mate and that you were helping us. She got mad and walked away."
Dravin laughed.
"What is so funny?" I asked.
"Humans are weird. I spent too much time among them. Anyways, females like to be asked what they want and not told. Perhaps you should ask her what she wants."
"Perhaps I will."
I stood up and walked straight to my room.
