Leviathan's point of view By the time I reached my room, she was gone and I just stood there taking in her scent letting it wash over me. "So the maid?" I heard Dravin say from behind me. I turned around and faced him. "What?" "The maid is your mate," he said as he leaned up against my door frame and I sighed. Never thought he would have guessed . "And what makes you say that?" "For one, you were angry and tense. The first place you come is your chambers. Your standing there sniffing the air like it's your lifeline and your shoulders have relaxed. So the maid." "She is my mate." "She also has the biggest target on her back as well." "What do you mean?" I asked as my heart began to race. "Kayla was not assigned a mate and sent to the worst lands ever." I walked over to the chair in my room and signaled for him to sit down. When he sat in the spare chair, I said, "And why is that?" "I am not sure. The reason she was not given a mate was because her father was not listed and even though the council inquired, her mother never gave a name. Usually in cases like this, we send the female to a village further away so we do not risk mixing the blood, but this time that did not happen. Instead, she was sent to live in a house that was falling apart and land that could not grow a single thing." I ran my hands over my face and sighed. "And who allowed this?" "Elder council member Hoeren." "And everyone went along with it?" "He is the eldest member on the council and what he says goes. No one questions it." "I think it is time for change. Now, if you will excuse me, I need to find my mate and have a talk with her." I got up and walked towards the door. As I opened the door, Dravin said, " Be careful my Lord. There are some on the council who would like to see the royal fall and another take its place. This might just be the tipping point." "It will all work out," I said, and then walked out the door, not giving his words a second thought. I walked through the palace following my mate's scent but I could not find her anywhere. I walked through the servants area and began to look for her. "Your majesty. What you brings you to this area?" a woman said as I walked into a room filled with humans. The scent alone wanted me to vomit so I tried to focus on my mates scent. "The woman who cleans my chambers. Where is she?" The woman's face mortified from cheery to serious in the matter of seconds. " What has she done? I will make sure it does not happen again." "Where is she servant?" I asked again. "I sent her home for the day." "Why?" "She is useless and hardly does a good job. If you are looking for her, that means she has screwed another thing up." "She has done nothing wrong. I wanted to ask her what she uses to mask her scent in my room." "Oh." "Oh, is right. Just because you do not like someone does not mean you should always find faults in them." "I am sorry, my lord," the woman said, but I knew she did not care. I turned around and headed out of the human-infested area. The moment I left the area, I took a deep breath and felt better. The stench of humans was horrible and I wanted to rip them all apart. I began to walk towards the flight area so I could go to my mate. "My lord," I heard a familiar voice say from behind me. I turned around and Arnon was walking towards me. "Arnon, is everything okay?" I asked. "I have something for you, my lord. I think you should read it," he said as he handed me a book and then walked away. His shoulders were stiff and he seemed off. I put the book in my back pocket and headed back in the direction I was going in. I walked out of the palace and began to walk towards her house. I should have flown but that woman had me so angry and I needed time to cool down. As I walked through the streets, the smell of humans was awful, but the town was not bad to look at. It was different seeing it from this point of view. As I walked down the street near the market, people began to avoid me. They knew what I was and they feared me. I could kill them in both human and dragon form. I was faster and stronger than them. Humans have feared my kind for as long as I could remeber. It did not take long for me to get to Kayla's house due to my speed. She was working in the yard again. She was always working. As I approached, she was mumbling and so focused on getting this piece of junk out of the ground that she did not hear me approach. "Why are you trying to dig that up? Clearly it will not move," I said as I stood near her, causing her to jump. "Oh my gosh. What are you doing here?" She said as she looked at me. "I came ot see you." "Why?" "Because you are my mate?" "I can't be," She said as she looked at me. I smiled and said, "You are and it's time we talked about it." I grabbed her hand and felt sparks radiating through my arm. I looked at her and smiled as I led us to the house.
