I turn to see Anders helping Ellie from the boat. I sigh, glancing back at my sister. I should have told Ellie about Hjordis. It wasn’t safe, though, and I didn’t expect her to be here waiting for me. Still, I should have let my wife know so she wasn’t surprised when a woman came up to hug me.
Ellie takes Mani from Anders. He clearly doesn’t want to release her, but she insists. She’s probably nervous and using our daughter for comfort. Slowly, she walks toward me, and I can’t help but smile. This land suits her. This is where she belongs.
“Hjordis, this is my wife, Eleanor,” I tell my sister, placing my arm across Ellie’s shoulders. “And our daughter, Mani.”
