CHAPTER SIXTEEN In the days following her abrupt leaving from Max’s place, Ariel was torn between sudden thoughts of him and moments of frustration and anger. The man knew how to raise her hackles. If she felt anything for Max, the young woman stubbornly denied her attraction to him. She glossed over it by concluding that she was only grateful for what the man had done for her. Most of the time, Ariel kept busy so that she wouldn’t think of the man and what had happened between the two of them. She didn’t have to try too hard. The police visited her at home a couple of times. The first to come were the officers who answered her call when she started receiving the messages from her stalker. They came to apologize and ask for more details to build a case against the man. Ariel couldn’t
