CHAPTER ELEVEN Taut like a bow, Ariel clenched her fists over her mouth. A few seconds later, the sounds of a scuffle from outside her door pumped adrenaline into her veins. Her heart pounded in her chest at every groan that bounced from the corridor walls. Tears burned in her eyes, but Ariel knew that she couldn’t let them fall. The woman was afraid that she would start sobbing uncontrollably, and the people in the hall would hear her. Suddenly a body hit the wall near her bedroom door, and a cry flew off her lips. Ariel bit her lower lip to stop herself. An inhuman shout preceded another thump, and the woman imagined that someone fell to the floor. She waited for something more to follow, but silence stretched. Ariel panicked, not knowing what she should do. She didn’t know if Max wa
