Mason POV
Allen came to talk to me about Violet and as much as the thought irritated me, that was a matter I had to sort out.
"I'm sorry, Alpha. I'm just trying to fulfill my duties. You know I respect your parents very much and I trust their opinions. They think Violet would be perfect for you, please, give her a chance." He looked at me with pleading eyes. Allen was a very good warrior and very good as an adviser. My father trusted him and so do I. But this was different. I won't get someone else's opinion for gold when It bothered my mate and Luna. It was too personal. I trusted my wolf too. I knew Gray would tell me when I met the perfect one. I wasn't egomaniac, for the pack's matters I would listen to anyone wiser than me. But not for my personal life.
"I would accompany her for the walk around the pack surroundings. You can return to your work."
I strode to her room and slammed the door open. She was in a towel, her hair in a ponytail. She was obviously picking out her outfit.
She kept looking at her feet in silence. I took a breath and sighed.
"Look, I don't want you for a mate. You can either accept it, or I can make your life here miserable, and still, you won't reach your goal. It's just not happening."
She looked me in the eyes, her expression was emotionless.
"I don't want to be your Luna, nor your mate, believe it or not. I just..." She stopped talking for a while and then her voice was just a whisper.
"When your parents told me that I had to do my part of the deal they had made with my parents and become your mate, I was terrified. No offense."
"None taken."
"But I lost everything when my parents died and I don't have anyone or anything. I'm homeless. I had to leave college. My only option to survive was to come with Allen."
She took a breath and continued.
"If you agree to let me stay in your pack, even as an omega, I'll owe you forever."
"Are you trying to make a deal right now? If I let you stay, you'll stop trying to get the position of the Luna?"
"I'm not trying and I don't want to become the Luna, I already told you that. I'm not pretending. I would rather go and live among the people in the town, but I don't have any money."
I eyed her judgementally and then turned around and stormed out of her room.
I wasn't sure whether to believe her. If she was lying just to save time and find a way to reach her goal, I certainly didn't want someone like her in my pack. She could do all she want, but she won't become my mate.
But...If she was telling the truth, It would be much easier to take her in my pack, make her an omega, and continue with my life. Could I?
I had to admit I was a little offended. I didn't think that there is a she-wolf, who won't want to be the Luna. And someone could tell that I was a little full of myself, but I was a catch too. I was a big deal. If Alison were in Violet's place, she would dig her claws in me, relying on my parents' promise and won't let go till she succeeded. She won't bother If I wanted her or not. That was why I doubted Violet's words.
I would have to wait and see, I guess. Time would tell.
I walked out of the pack house, completely forgetting about the pack tour I had to take her. I saw my beta Simon smoking under the sun. The weather was nice. I had to go for my morning run, or Gray soon will become restless.
"Hey."
"Hey. I heard there is a new she-wolf here. Who is she? Is it true Alpha David had sent her?"
"Yeah." I took one cigarette and put it in my mouth.
"So, is she attractive?"
I took a puff and looked at him.
"She is, but is off-limits."
"Are you finally taking a Luna?"
"I'm not, but she is a guest, till I took my decision. I don't want her for my Luna, but I still don't know what I would do with her."
"You're 26, it's more likely your destined mate to be dead by now If you haven't been able to meet her. What are you waiting for? You didn't pick anyone by now. Why not her?"
"You know why better than anyone."
"Yeah, but I always thought that you're just hiding behind these words. No one will commit to this pack like you, embrace it.
"Why are you bothered?"
"Because I think you'll be better with a mate by your side. I know I'm funny, charming and a good friend, but there's a limit to my services."
I furrowed my brows and his expression got serious.
"I know why you won't consider her as a real option. Because your father sent her. You're still angry at him, but this has nothing to do with her. Maybe Alpha David knows what he's doing."
"He knows nothing. Why don't you take her for a mate, If you so trust my father's opinion?"
He was grinning now.
"I was waiting for you to ask."
We laughed and I thought how nice it was to have someone like him whom I trusted completely and could rely on. I have never lacked closeness and support before, our family was very close.
It was as if I was alone against everyone now.
I thought about the good old days when we were all together. My parents, my sister, my brother. Before Scarlett and Zyier. Before all the problems. The future then looked promising. Now I felt like I was doomed, waiting for my sentence.
