Chapter 7 The Road SouthWilde Lake was a massive body of water. During good weather, it could take as many as three days to sail from one end to the other. Wilde Lake was so large that it often had its own climate. It was a deep lake as well. No one knew for sure how deep. I remember my father tested depths in his special fishing spots and his two hundred foot line never hit bottom. Of course, there were stories about depth-dwelling monsters that would walk the land at night. These fish-people would kill cattle and steal children, but nothing like that ever happened. When my forefathers first arrived in this land I’m sure they believed the lake to be the western ocean. It is a fertile land with food aplenty from the water and the surrounding forests.
