Despite Haran’s claim of the odds being
even, the knight knew that he would not survive this battle. Both
Haran, and Clerebald were experienced in combat. In the past, each
of them had been wounded in skirmishes and yet they continued to
fight. The problem was fatigue. Swinging a three-pound broadsword a
few times in practice is easy. Swing the same sword against a score
of enemies in a fight for your life and exhaustion will set in
quickly. Haran needed to gather Clerebald and get away while they
still had the strength to run.
Haran dispatched another mercenary with
ease, but instead of moving forward toward his next combat, he
turned and ran towards Clerebald and the Bugbear. Haran ran as fast
as he could, but he had no plan of engaging Stinkscreamer in
