Chapter 13
ArtifactsWe crept into the city, Sir Jesper in front
and Penn bringing up the rear. Torches were lit in the street just
as I thought. Willow remarked that there must be someone living
here, that’s why torches are lit.
We moved from hiding place to hiding place,
always keeping to the shadows. Sir Jesper would sometimes stop
suddenly, and we would watch a group of shadows pass us by.
It took us a while; then we came to a point
where young Vallion whispered: “I think this is the place.” He was
referring to a large building with two stone statues in front. The
statues had human bodies and lions’ heads. There was a small side
entrance where a portion of the building wall had given way. We
entered through that opening.
