CHAPTER 8 - What!

892 Words
Staring at myself in the mirror, I almost can't recognize myself. My once long curly hair is now a straight black fringed shoulder length hair and my once dark eyes now blue with a fake birthmark on my left cheek, my real birthmark covered with a concealer. I look at my knee length black gown and smile. "New look, new personality." I say to myself and pull my luggage after me. Getting down, I meet my granny seated on the sofa watching 'Kumkum Bhagya'. "Ava dear." My granny calls out to me and I smile. "She isn't Ava, Ms. Brown." Linda says and I roll my eyes dramatically. "Who is she then?" I ask and she raises her brows. "I'm talking about you and you are still asking me? My cousin has a red hair but it's just that you two have the same stature." She says and I want to face palm myself but I hold back. "Linda, I'm Ava and I don't want anyone to know about me being the red haired girl. You call me Ava from hence forth, okay? Please." I say and she nods. That was easy. "You can at least eat something Ava, you will be staying in the school's female hostel. Whenever you don't want to live in school anymore, just call me. You've got granny." She says touching her chest, "I will get a really comfy house for you." She adds and I smile before hugging her. "This is so annoying, only grandma gets a hug. What about me who has to keep your secret and also lie to my friends." Linda says crossing her arms over her chest. "Here's your hug, jealous cousin." I say and give her a suffocating hug. "Eat your buttered toast and have black coffee. You can go in my Lamborghini since I won't be going with you because of some business deals." Granny says. "What!? You have a Lamborghini? Granny, you're old. I..." I shut up when she laughs. "Of course, Granny is getting pretty old but she doesn't want to look it." She says and I smile. Eating a piece of the buttered toast, I gulp down a few sips of the black coffee and walk out of the house with Linda. **** "Here we are Ava. Welcome to WSU Ava." Linda says smiling. "Thanks Linny. You know you could have just mentioned my name once ‘here we are Ava welcome to WSU.’ I'm a bit nervous." "Whatever! Don't be nervous sweetie, we might have one or two classes together." She encourages me. "Yeah."  I reply. "Now smile and walk in with confidence baby, you're no kid." She says and I smile. "Yeah, I'm not a kid." I murmur. "Your birthday is in few weeks." She says. "Yeah." I say and her phone chimes. "Chole!" Linda says into the phone with a squeal.  She does that a lot. She is just like Jane, she never gets angry and when she is, you should get ready for hell on earth. "Ava, I gotta go, Chole just called." She says as she takes her phone off her ear. Alright, alright I knew already. "Okay Linny." I say and she waves. "Get to class Ava, you're late." She shouts. Shit! I need to get to class. No, how about I skip class today and get to know my dorm room and my roommate? Holy Lord, I don't want a bitchy roommate. The campus looks just as great as it did in the brochure, I'm impressed. The buildings are old and elegant. My mom should have been here to hug and kiss me goodbye, but she's just useless and I don't blame her. The size of the campus is intimidating but hopefully, after a week or two I will feel at home. I take a sit and a middle aged woman gives me my dorm key and map to guide me. I feel free already. The past nineteen years of my life were not really nice. "I want to see your dorm room before I go honey. I just can't believe my only daughter is in college." A woman says to her child. Yeah I'm my parent’s only child too but they don't seem to care about me. It would have been nice if I had my mom here to say those words to me, at least I would feel loved but I don't. I thought I felt loved while I was with Mike but no, I was wrong. He never loved me, it was just mere lust. For two years, two f*****g years. I hate guys so much. I shouldn't be thinking about that now. I better find my dorm room fast. It's B21, I'm in C hall. I guess I'm lucky because I see a bold B painted on the wall. "yes!" I say loud enough for only me to hear and move slowly towards B hall, the map falls from my hand and I bend to pick it up.  "Good." I murmur to myself picking up the map and raise my head only to hit a wall, okay wrong, someone. "Sorry, I'm so sorry, I didn't see you coming." I say and bend to pick the person's scattered books. "Do you need an extra pair of eyes? Or are you dumb or something?" He asks.  This bastard is so rude, if he was angry before he shouldn't let out his anger on a stranger. "Take. I'm sorry, okay?" I say and raise my head to give him his books. "What!?" I say again opening my mouth agape.
