I smiled while thinking about Lender's smile.
He caught my attention the first time I met him. He looked like an omega with his lean build and cute face but did not emit a scent like any omega, or maybe he was using an inhibitor, but they said that he was a beta.
I tried surrounding him with my pheromones to see if he could get affected but he did not react. I am a dominant alpha, a whiff of my pheromones by an omega would make their knees turn into jelly. I hugged him in my sleep but Leander was not showing any signs of being an omega but the strange thing was, I could smell a faint scent coming from him. It was faint but there was still a calming scent coming from him. Maybe it was only my imagination and I was pent up.
I sighed.
He was a beta but alpha and beta relationship was not that rare before the apocalypse, and if it was Leander, I would not mind being with a beta too.
I leaned on the backrest of the passenger seat while thinking about Leander. His handsome face. He looks so cute every time he gets annoyed so I tease him whenever I have time. His fair and smooth skin, his black eyes, and long hair.
Oh! And his firm butt!
I raised my hand and made a gesture as if I was squeezing a balloon in the air. He really has a plump ass that fits well in my hands.
"What perverted thoughts are you having, captain?"
I smiled at Marie's comment.
"Someone else's ass." I said and she laughed.
"Damn! I know you’re thinking something dirty.”
I only laughed at her.
Marie's driving speed was not so bad that we could already see the last bus that was ahead of us before we went inside a tunnel under a mountain. Zombies were hiding in the tunnel but Marie only ran it with the armored truck and sped up until we were already following the back of the bus.
The moment we got out of the tunnel, it was Leader the first one I saw and he was standing at the bus door holding a sword. I couldn't help but wink at him before Marie sped up and signaled Garrett who was the driver that we would be driving ahead of them.
Garrett gave a thumbs up and after a few minutes, the bus was already far from us.
"Tell me if you want to switch places. I'm gonna sleep for a while." I said.
Now that I knew that everyone was safe, my body suddenly felt so tired and the injury on my leg was also acting up.
"Okay." Marie said.
....
I woke up when we were exiting V-Zone and Marie slowed down because a lone zombie was spotted walking in the middle of the road... or more like it was crawling. Half of its body was gone. Now it was just crawling with its upper body.
I watched as Marie pulled a handgun with an attached silencer and shot the struggling zombie before picking up her driving speed.
We were back on the highway and Marie said that we already drove past the three buses while I was asleep. I looked in the rear mirror and saw that the woman was sleeping.
"What happened to your leg, captain?" Marie asked.
I looked at my leg and saw that it was bleeding but it was already dried.
"Almost got stuck by a pole." I said and remembered that time when I was carrying Leaner out of the supermarket.
He lost consciousness from exhaustion. He was too thin and light. I suddenly had the urge on wanting to feed him so he would grow plump.
"I wonder if there will be oranges at the base." I muttered.
Marie chuckled. "I remembered seeing you bringing a plastic full of oranges on our first meeting and snacking on it in front of us without giving us a piece."
"I have to go out after I heard about the outbreak news and bought as many oranges as I could. I have a few left. I just hope it is still okay to eat when I get back."
"Why are you so obsessed with oranges?"
I smiled and remembered the reason why.
Because his pheromone smelled like sweet oranges and every time I smelled and ate an orange, I felt like my system was filled with his pheromone until it became a hobby of eating oranges and sometimes forgetting the reason why.
But Leander's lime scent reminded me of that man's pheromone.
"Is Leander really a beta?" I asked, not answering her question.
"He said he is. Why?"
"He's giving off a faint scent."
"I couldn't smell anything from him."
"We spend a night together and I think I smelled something from him— hey..." I was surprised that the truck suddenly danced.
"Oh, my god, captain! You... you slept with him?" She exclaimed. "Sorry." Marie apologized when the woman who was sleeping in the backseat woke up.
The woman only smiled and resumed sleeping.
"You're crazy. But I wish." I said.
"Well, Leander's handsome, pretty kind of handsome. He could be an omega too. No, he might be one!"
"Shut up." I said because she was so loud.
"I did not sleep with him. Maybe I was wrong."
It was strange that I could only smell it at night, when we cuddled to sleep but during the day, the faint scent would be gone.
Maybe he was an omega at night? I silently laughed at my stupid thoughts.
"You like him, captain?"
I stared at Marie for a minute making her laugh.
I wanted to say no but my mouth just won't open to deny it. I guess Garrett was right, that Leander was my type.
I was glad that Marie stopped talking about it when I went silent as I immersed myself in the thoughts of Leander.
What if the apocalypse never happened?
Maybe I wouldn't meet Leander. I wondered what he was doing when the apocalypse broke out. He never told us about his personal life. Well, I never asked also. Next time we meet, maybe I should start to get to know him.
I looked out the window and smiled. I couldn't wait to see him again.
The radio above the dashboard produced a static sound. I picked it up and Garrett's voice filled the truck.
"Captain, Leander's missing."
