First Day of Hard Days

Hermoine's POV I rolled over, turning to the other side. The morning sun was hurting my eyes. Just as I was about to go back to the dream world, my mum barges into my room, successfully pulling me out of my dream state. "Up you go missy, we have a lot of things to do today," Jada says as she walks towards my curtain and pulls it further open. "Ugh!" I exclaimed as she pulled the covers off of me. "Okay okay, I'm coming. Just a few more minutes," I said as I tried to drag it out of her grasp, but she only pulled it further. "Ah-ah-ah, up you go," she says. I sigh as I lay still in bed. After a few minutes of getting myself together, I sit up in bed. "What is it, mum?" I ask her as I rub my eyes like a child. She sits on the edge of my bed and places a hand on my leg. "Well, it's your first day of work," she says, and I turn to look at her. "Work?" "Yeah, work. You are coming to the office today with your father and me," she says with a small smile on her face. I scrunch my eyebrows up in distaste. I didn't like being cooped up all day and my parents knew this. "But I don't like being indoors all day long for hours on end," I practically whine out but it flies over my mum's head. "Well, you'll get used to it. Besides, this is what you'll mostly be doing once the pack is handed over to you, so get up and get dressed," she says before patting my leg and standing up from my bed. "I don't want to be stuck doing paperwork all day," I say just as she is about to leave my room. "Guess your father and I have to start the hunt for the next possible alpha for the pack," she says as she walks out of my room door. "You wouldn't!" I shout in disbelief. "Then be downstairs in twenty, with a cheerful face," she shouts before slamming the door shut. I stare at the empty spot she was just standing in, my mind reeling. "She can't be serious, right?" I ask myself. I shake my head to rid myself of the thoughts before rushing to stand up from my bed. I run into my bathroom and take a quick shower when I realized I had spent five minutes, staring at the door. One thing about my mum was that she hated her orders being defiled. If she said twenty minutes, she meant twenty minutes. I take a quick shower, not having enough time to gloat at my image in my massive bathroom mirror. I rush into my walk-in closet and pull out a black slip skirt with side slits and a black long-sleeve body suit. I rushed to get dressed and once again, I didn't have enough time to gloat at my body in my wall-length mirror. I hurriedly brushed my hair, applied lipgloss and mascara. I baptize myself in multiple scents before putting on a palm slipper and rushing out of my room. I get to the kitchen and see my dad seated on one of the bar stools by the kitchen island, drinking a cup of what I'm guessing to be coffee while going through his phone. "Morning Dad, Morning Mum," I say as I walk closer to the kitchen island. My dad looks up from his phone briefly and smiles at me. "Morning angel," he says before turning his attention back to his phone. My mum walks closer to me, a plate of food in her hand. "Two minutes late, but I can handle that," my mum says as she places the plate filled with pancakes, hashbrowns, bacon and eggs on the empty spot beside my dad. "Eat up, we have to leave soon," she says before she walks over to the stove again. She was wearing something similar to what I'm wearing but with more neutral colours. I take a seat and begin to devour my meal. "You're not going to ask where we are taking you?" my dad as I put the last bite of food in my mouth. I shake my head to say no. "Since you won't ask, I'll take it upon myself to tell you." He picks up his phone and types on it before handing it to me. I take it and read through what's on the screen. "You're signing me up for a higher-level training camp?" I ask with a hint of excitement. "Yes. You, for one, love to train and it's safe to say that you are on a higher level than members of the pack it'll also serve as preparation training for taking over the pack when I hand it over to you," he says and I roll my eyes a bit. "You're twenty-one, get used to hearing more about when you're taking over the pack," he says. "I didn't say anything. But can we press pause on that topic? Tell me more about this training camp?" I ask and he proceeds to give me little information. "You'll learn more about it when we get to the office," my mum says when she notices I'm about to start bugging my dad and I sigh. "Fine," I say. "Give me a few minutes and we'll be on our way," my mum says and my dad and I nod our heads. ********* We get to the office. It was outside of the pack lands and I was kind of skeptical. What if these people were kidnappers? I subtly shook my head as if to shake the thoughts away. My parents weren't careless. We walked into a large building and the lady at the front desk led us to a huge office upstairs. It was a three-storey building and it was fairly large. The man behind the desk had been speaking to my parents for the past twenty minutes and ignored my very existence. After a few minutes, he asks my parents if they could excuse us as he wants to talk to me alone. Once the door is shut behind them, he turns to me. "You think you can handle military-style training?" he asks with a slight smirk and I returned it. "That'll be a breeze," I say and he smiles. "Really? Do you even know half of what military training entails? Its-" "Basically a breeze," I say cutting him off. "You don't cut a Five start general off when he is talking," he says with a firm tone that I can't help but obey and it pissed me off. "Are you even sure you're fit to be an alpha? No one is meant to have command over you," he says and I keep shut as I stare at him. "Say something. I asked if you were" "Whether or not I can run my pack isn't your business, you should concentrate on running your little boy scouts," I seethe and he smiles. "I'm going to enjoy watching you train," he says. He opens a drawer and pulls out a file and hands it to me. "I'll keep in contact with you and your parents," he says and I stand to leave. "Did I say you could leave?" he asks. I turn to stare at him "I don't need your permission," I say but the way he looks at me makes me know that I will be needing his permission for every little thing. "If you believe that. You may be on your way now Miss Hermoine," he says before concentrating on some files on his table. I walk out of his office and hold myself back from slamming his door. "So?" my dad asks as he stands when he sees me. "I'm going to this camp," I say with a sly smirk. I'm going to show that general who I really am. How dare he question my ability to become an alpha? "You good?" my mum asks when she notices my scrunched-up eyebrows. "I'm good, just peachy," I say. We make our way out of the office and head for the car.
