Chapter 5 Betrayed or Cheated?

1738 Words
The next day, Meirah woke up feeling heavy. The events of last night flowed through her mind, refreshing the memory of her husband's cruel actions towards her. She felt her headache worsen just at that memory. With a sigh, she sat on her bed, bringing her knees to her chest, and hugged herself tight. After a few minutes, she got up from her bed, ignoring her headache. She walked inside the bathroom, freshened up, and got ready to go to work. She wore a white shirt paired with a beige shirt and a beige scarf, tied her hair into a high bun, and applied minimal makeup as she painted her lips a cherry red color. She got ready according to the code of her hotel's rules. If the waitresses and staff were beautiful and pleasant looking, the customers would actively make requests. It's a tactic her hotel uses to attract customers. But despite this uniform rule, Meirah looked good in her dress. She looked confident, professional, and a go-getter kind of person. Walking to the dining hall, she sat in her chair to have her breakfast. She didn't find Lucian in the dining hall. At this time, he would be either reading the newspaper or having coffee or breakfast. "Where is Lucian?" Meira asked the servant who came to serve her food. "Alpha has already left, Luna. He didn't even have his breakfast either," the maid said respectfully to her. "To the company?" she asked, wondering out loud. He would leave later than this. She wondered what made him go to the office this early. "Alpha hasn't gone to the company. As for where he went, I have no knowledge of it," the maid replied to her questions and thoughts. "I get it. No need to watch me. Go do your work," she said. Meirah didn't know why she felt weird knowing he didn't go to the office to work. She wondered where he would have gone if not for the company. Many things ran through her head at that thought. She was even a little worried. Did something happen in the pack? She thought. 'What if he went to his mistress?' Zoya interrupted like usual. Zoya heard all of Meirah's thoughts and couldn't help but reply. For some reason, she was hurting a lot from last night. It's so painful that she feels like she's losing a part of herself. Even Meirah could tell how that feels because if one is hurt, others could feel hurt too. 'He won't. I haven't agreed to the contract yet,' Meirah said confidently. But she knew in the corner of her heart that she was scared of that happening. Her food felt prickly as she swallowed it. Suddenly, she realized the food was not palatable at all. She stopped eating and got up to leave. 'If you say so,' Zoya said. When she returned to the hotel, she heard the waitresses chitter-chattering among themselves. "Did you know that the Alpha brought his fated mate?" a waitress said gossipily. "Oh! Finally, he found his mate. This pack has not had Luna for years. He was handling it single-handedly. With his mate, this pack would prosper," another waitress chirped. "Yes, who knows? They might even have an heir soon." "I heard his mate looks beautiful." "Of course, his mate shall be beautiful!" the waitress chirped as if it were a written fact. Meirah, who heard their conversation, felt sad. If the hotel waitresses knew it, then in very little time, the whole pack would know it. Was Lucian in a hurry to introduce his mate to the world? Then what about her? Despite knowing they both married each other for benefits, seeing the way things were, she felt hurt. She felt a pang of hurt after hearing all this. She doesn't know how to deal with this. She suppressed her hurt and smiled as she went to do her work. She completely focused on her work as she tried to ignore the hurt. She checked her schedule and found out that she was in charge of room service today. She has five rooms to clean and tend to their needs. "Meirah," the head of housekeeping called her. The head of housekeeping was a woman in her 40s. Her face was clean and pleasant to the eyes. Even in her forties, she was still a beauty. Combined with her clean uniform, and her cool composure, she was even more beautiful. It's just that she always has this practiced smile and behaves like an etiquette teacher. "Yes, Miss Chaperol," she said in response to her call. Miss Chaperol was someone whom Meirah looked up to. Miss. Chaperol knows that Meirah was a part of this hotel's management. At first, Meirah was worried she would be biased, but Miss. Chaperol has never been biased. She treated her the same way she treated the other waitresses. She also guides Meirah in hotel management when needed. Miss. Chaperol only knows that she was part of management, not Luna. She assumed that Meirah was the daughter of one of the shareholders and was here to receive training. Also, Meirah never explained why she was a part of the management. "What are you doing now?" she asked as she saw her pushing the cleaning cart. "I just finished cleaning the four rooms on the second floor. They gave me some clothes for laundry. I am going to do that," Meirah responded. "Keep that aside. Go to the VIP room no.2. Send the customers the wine and food. Quick. No mistakes are allowed to be made," Miss. Chaperol said sternly. "I will," Meirah said as she nodded her head at her orders. Normally, VIP hotel rooms are not something to be taken lightly. The people who checked in with them were actually rich or had power. They have the highest and most unreasonable demands, and everything should be perfect and precise to avoid angering them. As they paid the highest amount and were mostly rich people. They have to serve them carefully. Any mistakes can cost them their reputation and their hotel's value. Meirah went to the kitchen and asked the chef and the people in the kitchen to prepare the orders ordered by the VIP room. Meirah remembered that there was no one who checked in to the VIP room yesterday. She wondered if they checked in this morning or late at night. Pushing her thoughts aside, she went to the VIP room floor. For some reason, Meirah's heart pounded in her chest, and she felt uneasy as she approached the designated hotel room. Meirah thought it was all due to the overwork and lack of rest, and combined with the fact that she didn't have food this morning, she pushed her uncomfortable feeling aside. She had no idea what awaited her behind that door, but she pushed aside her apprehension and knocked gently. 'Mei-Meirah,' suddenly Zoya started crying and howling in pain as she neared the room. 'Zoya, what's wrong?' Meira asked, feeling further down. 'My heart aches. Meirah, don't go over,' Zoya started crying more. 'Zoya, let's talk later. We need to serve the customer,' Meirah said sternly as she walked to the room. Meirah couldn't help but feel sad too. She doesn't know why, but her left eye was twitching badly as if something bad was going to happen. She felt sad for an unknown reason. What is it that hurts my heart? Meirah wondered. Swallowing down all her grievances, Meirah knocked on the door. "Who is it?" She heard a male voice from inside. She felt it was familiar, but she brushed it off and answered, "Room Service," as she pushed the cart with wine and food. Just then, the door opened. Meirah pushed into the cart and saw Lucian standing there, dressed only in a bathrobe. She felt a sudden pain in her chest. Zoya started crying uncontrollably even more. Meirah held back her tears, looking at him. "Lucian?" she exclaimed. "You didn't go to the company to be here? Why are you here?" she continued. The shock in her voice was still evident. Lucian showed a lazy expression and acted as if he hadn't heard her. Just when Mierah was about to ask further, she heard a female voice. "Lucian?" The female's voice resounded in the room, grabbing Meirah's attention. Looking over, she saw a tall woman coming over, whom Meirah recognized as Camila Stone. She was only wearing a towel wrapped around her, and her hair was still wet as if she had just taken a shower. A mark, which resembled same as her mating mark, on her neck was glaringly visible to Meirah's eyes. She glanced at Lucian, who had a lazy expression on his face. She could also see the hickeys on his revealed collarbones. Her heart pounded at that sight. That's when she realized she had been betrayed. The pain of betrayal cut deep into her heart deep leaving her weak and vulnerable. That's when she realized the reason for her wolf's unexpected behavior. No wonder her wolf felt uneasy and sad. Maybe she felt her husband's presence along with someone else's. Zoya's sadness turned into anger when she saw the mating mark on her. She immediately formed a mind link to communicate with her spouse's wolf. "Emerald, How could you let another wolf near you? I am your wolf!" she asked angrily. "A wolf, who is weak and can't even protect our pup, right?" Emerald sneered. "Emerald. What are you saying?" Zoya asked with her wide eyes. Emerald never said anything mean to her. But this time… he was being mean. "The truth! You, an omega wolf, are too weak to protect our child, and we lost him. I need someone stronger." he said. "Emerald, that doesn't give you the reason to f**k her!" she said calmly. She tried to talk further, but Emerald just ignored her. Lucian didn't show any surprise to see Meirah, he coldly asked Meirah to leave the food and closed the door. Meriah dragged her tired body around the corner, she covered her heart and tried to keep the tears from flowing, but her body still trembled uncontrollably. It wasn't until the house manager called for her again that she knew she couldn't let another person see her embarrassed. She pulled out her powder and once again restored her makeup to a flawless finish.
