Chapter 4 The grieving Mother

1581 Words
The next day, Meirah went directly to the hotel before leaving a message to Sophia saying that she was fine. She worked the whole day before returning home. She felt exhausted after a full day's work. She didn't want to eat and went back to her room. She took a quick shower before lying on the bed. She felt utterly exhausted and emotionally drained. Her single bed felt much colder than usual. This was the first night after Lucian sent her the contract about the triple relationship with Camila. She wished to tell someone about her worries. But she was alone in both marriage and in this room. Lucian and Meira were sleeping in different rooms after the death of Silas. Meira thought she would smoothen the relationship between her and Lucian with time, but time told her she could never smoothen the relationship. Instead, it came to the point of breaking now. Thinking about it made her laugh mockingly. Immersed in self-loathing, she turned her head and looked at her desk. Her desk was cluttered with hotel documents. Before marrying Lucian, she was a waitress. She didn't quit her job as a waitress, even after her marriage to Lucian. She never flaunted her authority in front of the pack or took advantage of Luna's position. Being a weak Omega, she always felt inferior. And she tried to catch up and become competent enough to be a perfect Luna by working hard. Despite being a waitress at the hotel, driven by the wish to be a competent Luna, Meira took the initiative to study numerous courses in business management, earning a high degree. In secret, she had been actively involved in the hotel's operations. She even participated in the pack's internal activities. Yet their pack doesn't know that Meirah is their Luna, according to the order of the Pack's werewolf Council. She never complained about being the hidden Luna of the pack, as she felt she needed to be strong before her identity as Luna was exposed to the pack. Despite her inferiority complex, Meirah was devoted to her Luna duties, never slacking off for a moment. Although the Council criticized her lack of an heir and her omega status, they acknowledged her dedication to her responsibilities. Because of her hard work and dedication towards Luna's duties and her handling of the hotel business, the council didn't point out her inability to fulfill Luna's position. Instead, they pointed out her weak constitution and her inability to produce another heir after three years of her son's death. As that was the only way for them to pick on her and torment her. Zoya, Meirah's wolf, friend, and confidant, was deeply troubled by Lucian's proposal for a trio. "Meirah, what will you do about Lucian's proposal?" Zoya asked her calmly. At the thought of the proposal and knowing no one was there, Meira broke into tears of heartache. How could she not cry? Despite being robbed of the chance to meet her fateful mate, she accepted Lucian because she needed medical bills for her mother's operation. Also, Lucian was very adamant back then about convincing her into the marriage. Left with no choice, she married him for her selfishness. It was a win-win situation for both of them. It's a marriage purely based on mutual benefits. She never expected anything from him, but with time, she accepted both the marriage and Lucian with her own heart. She loved him and even gave him a son, Silas, who passed away, leaving her in heartache. Silas would always be a painful void that couldn't be filled in her heart. She accepted Lucian's insults and everything, hoping that there would be a day for them when they would go back to when they were like in their initial years of marriage. Now, they're all broken. Hot tears gushed out of her eyes as she cried on her bed, curling into a ball. As the silvery moon's rays fell inside the room, her tears looked like a silver stream. Even the wild crickets on the tree croaked as if they were resonating with her sadness. Zoya felt her heart heavy; after all, the ones who were feeling sad were Meirah and her wolf. "I am tired, Zoya. I am trying to be a perfect Luna and swallow my son's death while trying to lead everything normally. Why doesn't anyone understand that? Why do they keep pushing me? I didn't choose this fate; they forced me into it. When I accepted it, they were forcing me out. Why can't nobody ask me what I want?" Meirah sobbed as she spoke. "Let's tell him that he was not the only one in this relationship. And you are a part of it. Since that's the case, he cannot make decisions alone. Your agreement is crucial, just as is your decision," Zoya said. "But you know we can't do that, not until we become strong enough to have enough money to pay for my mother's medicine." Zoya was silent, My mother is my weakness. She can't just think about her own happiness. Meirah heard her stomach rumble; she remembered that she hadn't eaten anything yet today, she knew she couldn't be defeated; she once again put warm water on her red and swollen eyes to make sure she could see what was in front of her; and she made her way to the dining room. As she rummaged through the cupboards to find a large bag of macaroni, the door to the living room was pushed open, and she turned to see a tired looking Lucia. The clothes he was wearing hadn't been changed, and Meirah's heart turned prickly; he must have stayed all night with Camilla. "You didn't eat? Me neither. Cook me one while you cook the pasta." Lucian sounded like she didn't remember that things had dropped to a freezing point between them. Meirah wanted to refuse, but when she saw Lucian's face, which she had loved for years, she gave up resisting; just because she was cooking the noodles anyway didn't mean she forgave him for his cruelty. By the time the steaming macaroni was served, Lucian had already finished his shower and was sitting at the table. At the moment, he was covered in nothing but a towel, his toned wheat-colored pecs not covered in any fabric, and every time Meirah saw his body, she couldn't help but let out a gasp. But soon he was about to belong to another woman, or perhaps he never belonged to her. Appetite fading, Meirah hastily gulped down a few mouthfuls of macaroni before remembering something important; there was no way she was going to accept living in the same house as Camila. "So, when is Camila moving in?" Meirah looked at Lucian. Even when he ate, Lucian acted elegantly; he only acted cruelly and rudely when he was hunting rogues. He finished eating and wiped his mouth before looking at her. "Camila won't move in; have you forgotten? You're still my Luna, and that won't change. So you don't need to have the idea of moving out." "Camila has no problem with that?" Meirah didn't believe that Camila would be willing to be his secret lover this time she came back, the fact that she could abandon the man she loved so much for her ideals five years ago proved that she wasn't that type of woman. "I'll fix it. Meirah, I promised your mother that I'd take care of you. Next, you just need to play your Luna's role, and there will be no unpleasantness between us." Lucian put down her fork and was ready to leave the table. "What if I don't?" Meira stubbornly spoke again; she just wanted to provoke him, even if she would face consequences she couldn't bear. She just ...... just really didn't have the stomach for this formulaic niceness from Lucian, like she was just a symbol, and he couldn't see that she was on the verge of breaking down. Lucian stopped in his tracks, and he looked back at her, his eyes as cold as ice. "Meirah, angering me won't do you any good. And you know very well that you don't bear any of the consequences, I'm sure your pack still needs to accept my protection, with the exception of your mother, and you're just going to stand by and watch your pack disappear into a rogue attack?" Meira clenched her fists, She was like an ant in Lucian's hands; there was nothing she could do but resign herself to her fate. But she just couldn't let it go. Five years together didn't earn Lucian a single bit of love? "Lucian...... these five years, you really didn't have even a moment's love for me?" Lucian's spine stiffened again, love? It never occurred to him that he wasn't going to fall in love with another woman after Camila left him. Just when Meirah thought Lucian would admit to having a little love, Lucian's cruel words once again froze her like ice. "There's no point in asking again for an answer you already know. Go to bed early; don't you still need to work all day tomorrow?" Meirah felt as if her heart had been dug out hard by Lucian, thrown under her feet, and stomped on repeatedly. She thought she had already numbed herself from the pain, but Lucian still managed to do it by sending her to hell again.
