Flashback…
Five years ago, the restaurant was abuzz with activity, and Meira stood poised on the sidelines in her waiter uniform, ready to serve the customers. Among the crowd, she noticed a captivating couple entering the restaurant, capturing all the eyes in the restaurant. The woman possessed a graceful figure and stunning beauty, while the man exuded elegance with a carefully sculpted appearance.
As Meirah looked at them, she noticed they seemed to enjoy their dinner in a harmonious atmosphere. Especially the love in the man's eyes for the woman created imaginary pink bubbles in the air. However, their tranquil moment was shattered when the woman suddenly said something that left the man confused and bewildered.
Their initial harmony turned tense as the woman abruptly mentioned leaving, her words made the man visibly perplexed and concerned. As she stood up, she accidentally knocked on a glass, making it drop to the ground and break into pieces.
Meira had to do her work and moved closer only to hear their conversation. She got to know that the man's and woman's names were Lucian and Camila.
"Why are you leaving, Camila?" Lucian asked, his voice tinged with confusion as he tried to hold her back.
"I want to continue my studies in ballet, Lucian. The marriage couldn't go on," Meira heard Camila say calmly. Even Meirah was confused about why she needed to call off the wedding just to pursue her studies.
"But you don't have to call off our wedding for your studies, Camila. We can work it out together. I won't stop you from studying further or pursuing your career. You know I support you," Lucian assured her, trying to understand her sudden change of heart.
Seeing her still state and her silence, Lucian asked, "Is it because of the crisis in our packs? I can handle that, I promise. We won't be affected by it."
But Camila remained evasive, refusing to provide a direct answer. Camila leaves the place, leaving Lucian without looking back.
Lucian slumped back into his seat, heartbroken. A lone tear escapes his eye. After all, Camila was his mate. His wolf was asking him to run after her and get her back. But Lucian knew it better because once Camila decided on something, she would do it one way or another. Even if he gets her back, she will leave some other way. He needs to accept it now. Given the situation his pack was in, he couldn't act rashly.
'How Pathetic,' Zoya commented on Lucian's situation.
"Indeed, he's pathetic," Meirah agreed with her wolf, Zoya.
After waiting a few minutes, Meirah approached Lucian's table to clean up the shattered pieces of glass, lest someone get hurt. She felt embarrassed about Lucian's situation and didn't want to clean, but her job needed her to do it. With a sigh, she approached the table and crouched down to clean.
Lucian, sensing her presence, looked up to her. Seeing her and the look in her eyes, he asks her, "Do you find me pathetic?"
Caught off guard by the question, Meira looks at him meekly and lowers her head to continue her job silently, not daring to utter a word. Noticing her silence, Lucian opened his mouth to say something.
Just then, a middle-aged man, around 40 or 50 years old, entered the restaurant, his authoritative aura drawing attention. His presence commanded respect as he approached Lucian, clearly intending to address the situation at hand.
"Lucian," the man said sternly, "What is the meaning of your actions? Did you notice your actions?" The man's voice was so low, but one could sense the hidden threat and his anger, which sent chills down their spines. Even Meira felt scared to hear his voice.
Lucian remained silent, his emotions were not in place, and he was unfocused on everything that was happening around him. The man's intense gaze dripped with anger as he looked at Lucian.
"Incompetent Coward," the man taunted. "You're letting your emotions rule your mind when you should be focused on our pack challenges. Negative emotions will only weaken you, and we can't afford any sign of weakness, especially now. Wrap up yourself, you coward!" He said it through his gritted teeth and with his menacing gaze.
Meira realized that these two men were important figures in the pack and were playing a major role in protecting the pack. No wonder their auras was just different.
As the tension in the room escalated, Lucian seemed almost paralyzed, unable to respond to the man's cruel remarks.
Seeing Lucian's silence, the older man got angry with Lucian and slapped him across the face.
The slap was so hard that Lucian's face whipped to the side, even his body shook, and he was about to fall on the glass pieces. Meira, who was at the side, quickly pushed Lucian aside, in that process, she fell on the glass shards, cutting her hand.
Lucian was shocked at Meirah's actions. He didn't understand why she wanted to protect him at the expense of her safety. Even the middle-aged man, felt weird about her actions.
Before the elder man could say anything, Lucian stepped forward, surprising both Meirah and the man with his declaration.
"She's the woman, whom I'm going to marry," Lucian announced firmly, his eyes locked with Meirah's. Lucian's eyes held anger towards him, along with a trace of determination in his decision.
The middle-aged man's brows furrowed in confusion. "Marry her? But what about Camila? She's your fated mate," he said, perplexed by Lucian's sudden proclamation.
Lucian's expression hardened as he looked at Meira, a determined resolve in his eyes. "Dad, I know that. I want to marry her," he said.
That's when Meira realized the man was Lucian's father, Frederick Rudolph.
Meira was struggling to pay off her mother's medical bills; although she was the daughter of a pack alpha, her pack was small, and she had to come out to work to ease her father's burden.
When she reported the news to her parents, her father firmly rejected her, believing that Meira should marry her partner, not bind herself to a marriage with benefits.
But once again, the hospital bills forced them to compromise, and she married Lucian, who promised to provide her with money while also promising to protect their pack.
Even though Lucian's father didn't agree, his father had to compromise and accept it all when Lucian recognized Meira's mother as the one who had saved his life when he was a child.
