22 Sometimes, Caroline despaired at people. The idea that someone would invest millions of pounds into a brand new spa hotel complex and not spend a couple of hundred quid on securing the site with CCTV was phenomenal. Untold damage could be caused even before the complex was built, and with so much valuable machinery on site, she was amazed the owner hadn’t taken at least basic security precautions. It was nothing unusual, though. She saw it all the time. Million-pound houses without an alarm, people wandering round town with Rolex watches on their wrists. It was as if they were so far removed from the sorts of people who were targeting them, they were unable to even see they were the targets.
