Kate went back to the market after visiting her parents' grave. She wanted to buy some fruits for today's dinner with the money she earned from working in the pack hospital as a janitress. "Have you heard about the news? It's about Thorne." One of the women Kate passed by said. Interested in the news about her mate, she stopped and followed them, pretending to look around. "Jasmine was bragging that the Alpha invited her family for dinner," the girl said. "And? What's the big deal? Aren't the Beta's family close with them?" the other girl in a blue dress said. "Well, it's different this time. Jasmine was hinting that it will probably be a union for her and Thorne, being that they haven't found their mates last mating season," the girl replied. Kate felt her heart sink. If it's about union, then the Alpha was planning on marrying Thorne with Jasmine to continue the bloodline. But what about her? She's Thorne's mate! "Woah, well, they looked good together. And Jasmine's strong aside from her nasty attitude. She's qualified as a Luna." Kate didn't want to hear anything more, so she walked away, clutching her chest. "Kate?" Kate stopped as soon as she heard her name. Glancing back, she saw Jordan approaching her. "H-Hello, Jordan," Kate meekly greeted. "Why are you here?" she added. "I'm patrolling," Jordan said. "How about you?" he added and stood beside her. "I was going to buy fruits, but nothing caught my eye," Kate muttered. "So, you are going home?" Jordan asked, and Kate nodded in response. "I'll walk you back home if you don't mind," Jordan offered. Kate was about to decline because she remembered what Thorne said earlier, but the thought of Thorne with Jasmine together tomorrow hurt her. "Thank you, Jordan. You're so kind to me," Kate whispered. "Well, you are my packmate," Jordan said. Kate's a good person, and Jordan can't help but applaud how brave Kate is. He hated the discrimination in the pack just because Kate's an omega, and as a powerless, soon-to-be Beta, he stood idly on the side and protected Kate in his way. The two walked, heading toward the direction of Kate's house. "Thank you, Jordan," Kate said when they arrived. She felt a little better after talking with Jordan. Kate thought she belonged in the pack for a few minutes when they had a conversation. "It's nothing, Kate," Jordan replied and smiled. "Have a good night," he added and left. Kate went inside, and as soon as she closed the door, she felt empty looking at the four corners of the house. She went to her room and waited for Thorne until midnight, but he never came. -- Kate woke up feeling a little dizzy. She slowly stood up and went out, and she heard a rattling sound in the kitchen, making her alert of the intruder, but when the familiar scent hit her nose, she calmed down. "Thorne?" Kate said. "What are you doing?" she added. "Preparing breakfast?" Thorne responded and walked towards her. Thorne pulled her by the waist and kissed her neck. "Let's eat," he added. Kate followed and sat on the empty chair. "I waited last night, but you didn't come," Kate whispered. Thorne looked at her and started eating. "Didn't I tell you not to? My Father's back, so I couldn't be here," he replied. Kate took the spoon and gulped. "Aren't you going to say something to me?" Kate asked. "No. Come on, Kate. I'm trying to eat in peace here, yet you kept on talking nonsense," Thorne said. "I'll just go," he added and stood up, but Kate immediately stopped him, afraid he would disappear again. "I'm s-sorry. Let's e-eat," Kate said with her heart pounding and dismissed the conversation. Thorne looked at her and sat once again. "Thank you for the food," Kate said and forced herself to smile as she ate. Thorne hummed and continued where he had left. "I can't come and see you for a week. I'll be busy," Thorne said. "O-Okay, I understand," Kate sadly said. The breakfast ended, and Thorne left, leaving Kate in her house. Kate sat on the old couch they had and heaved a sigh. Her heart felt heavy. Why can't they tell anyone they were mates? Why was she born an omega? She hates it! Kate went out of the house to go to work when she saw Jasmine's group. She wanted to change routes, but it will take her too long, and she'll end up late, which she has been avoiding because the head janitor hates her. Kate bowed her head and resumed walking, clutching her bag. "Hey, omega," Jasmine yelled, but Kate continued, not looking back. "Who the fvck are you to ignore me?" Jasmine angrily said and pulled Kate's hair which made her yelp in pain. "J-Jasmine, please, l-let me go. I don't want t-trouble," Kate begged, seeing the people start gathering near them to witness Jasmine bullying the weakest of the rank. "Who are you to say that? A mere omega has no right," Jasmine whispered, and the women around her giggled. "I see you kept leeching on my brother," she added. It has come to Jasmine's attention that her people have seen her brother talking and casually hanging out with Kate, and she hated it. The omega deserves to be isolated because she's weak and useless. "P-Please," Kate whimpered but Jasmine pushed her to the ground and started kicking her. Kate gasped every time Jasmine's foot came into contact with her body. She's in pain. She wanted to run away from everyone. Kate covered her ears as she could hear the sound of laughter, wishing that Jasmine would stop. "Jasmine! What the hell are you doing?!" Jordan yelled and pulled Jasmine away from Kate. Jasmine's group immediately backed away when Jordan glared at them. "What? She deserves it," Jasmine answered her brother. Jordan stared at his sister. He couldn't believe what he just heard. "Come on, Jas, enough of this! Kate did nothing wrong for you to act like this," Jordan said. Jasmine glared at her brother and swatted his hand away. "Did she bewitched you?" Jasmine asked and crossed her arms. Jordan helped Kate and glanced at his sister. "Stop this, Jas," Jordan warned. Jasmine rolled her eyes and walked away, followed by her peers. Kate sobbed as she cleaned the dirt on her clothes. Jordan pitifully looked at Kate and spoke. "I'm sorry." "It's okay, Jordan. T-Thank you for helping me," Kate said and wiped the tears off her face. "I don't know what got into her. I apologize again, Kate. Don't worry. I will talk to Jasmine," Jordan said. Kate had no energy left to reply and just nodded her head. She's tired. She's tired of everything and just wants to be home. "Where are you going? I can take you there," Jordan muttered. Kate weakly smiled at him. "Don't bother, Jordan. I don't want to hinder your work. I'll be okay," Kate said. "I will always be," she whispered, leaving Jordan. Kate bowed as she felt people's eyes on her. Is being an omega a sin?
