Charles.
“You called me earlier while I was in a meeting.” I uttered, dropping my office bag on the chair before sitting down.
I didn’t do much at the office after Riley had walked out but I was left with a lot to reflect on, the way that I had acted and what had prompt me to push myself on her. Would she ever come back? I doubt she would really. “I thought you had finished all the meetings a long time ago. Wasn’t it two hours before I had called you?” Zelia pointed out.
Damn it, I should have known that she knows almost everything about the business. I might have left SohoTech for her and Ben to handle while I take care of Hudson but she makes sure that she tracks everything that I am doing.
In her words, she is learning more from me and it has helped her. “It was an impromptu meeting that wasn’t scheduled but it is all fine now.” I told her, wanting to just dismiss the topic.
It is Zelia here and she might try to push it more than what I had said out now. She would stop at nothing until she finds out what is going on. It would hurt if my daughter should find out that I had hired someone of her age to be my secretary and that I once had a one night stand with her.
“We went to the hospital earlier.” Zelia started, making me turn all my attention on her. “The baby that the doctor had wanted to give us, the mother had decided that she wants to be with her child so it won’t be possible again.” Her voice dropped.
This is one thing that I couldn’t get my money to buy them. Finding a surrogate has been hard and as Zelia had said, she wanted someone that we can trust, someone that wouldn’t come back years after for the kid. “And there aren’t any more ways out again.” She finished.
I heaved out a depressing sigh, there is no way that I could make her and Ben happy unless they have a child, which is why I really need to get Riley. She would do good and I am sure that she wouldn’t say no to the pay. “My angel.” I called out softly, moving to where she is seated.
“What if I tell you that I have a plan on how to get someone to surrogate for you. It might take time to get her to agree but she is the perfect person.” I started. “I just need time to convince her to do it.” I added.
Zelia’s eyes sparked with little hope as her eyes were filled with tears while she stared into mine. “You can buy her; people are easily gotten when money is involved.”
Hearing that ideology that she has in her head made me laugh. She is old enough to know that people aren’t easily bought with money. Some need more than the money, they need love and affection. “I am sure that is what she truly wants, but just give me time and I promise, I will get her to agree. It is matter of time.” I promised.
She shook her head, wiping away the tears that had fallen from her eyes. “I didn’t even offer you water, daddy.” Standing up, I picked up my phone and my car key. “I should get you something to eat before you go.” She added.
Holding her hand, I stopped her from going anywhere. “You don’t have to get me anything my angel. I will be on my way because I need to prepare for tomorrow.” I told her.
I can get the meetings for tomorrow all cancelled, just so that I get to think of an easier way to get to Riley. “I love you.” I told my only daughter, kissing her forehead and I smiled. I turned my back, walking out of their penthouse.
Sam, my old assistant can’t even drop the job, due to the fact that we haven’t gotten a replacement, maybe we did but all I want is Riley. And unless there is a replacement, there is nothing he can do about it.
Connecting my phone to the car, I dialed Sam’s number, he should still be at the company as I had left him there and I am sure that he has other things to complete before retiring for the day. The phone began to rang, which he picked immediately after the second ring. “Sam.” I called out and he answered from the other side.
From the way that he had spoken, it was enough to show that he had acted as if I was standing right in front of him. “I want you to send me Riley’s phone number and her address.” I ordered.
There was a silence from the other side, I know what he is thinking and the way that he is trying to label me but I truly won’t stop until I get what my daughter wants. “Sir, can I say something concerning this if you don’t mind?” Sam questioned respectively from the other side.
I hummed lowly, that vibrated through my chest and served as a respond to him. “I do think that there are others that had submitted their resume with Riley and they are way better than her. The qualifications, experience.” He pointed out.
As much as I would love to disagree, he is right but I don’t care. “The qualifications and all that you had listed isn’t an issue, Sam. Miss Riley can be trained for it at the end of the day, and moreover it is my own decision to pick out who I want to work for me, so you didn’t have to be worried about.”
Honestly, I tried so hard to sound normal as I spoke to him, but it feels like he was trying to dictate what should be done, instead of doing as I had asked him. “I am sorry sir if my words had been sounded bad, I won’t do it again and also, I will send you what you had requested now.”
The moment he finished off what he was saying, I ended the call, reviving the car to life. It would be a long time but I am ready to face it.
