Charles. After adjusting my tie, I took a sip of the water that was kept in front of me. It is draining me out that I have to stay back in D.C to try and enclose a business deal that seems so much impossible. “Are you with us, Mr. Charles?” Someone called my name from the meeting room and I looked up. “Sorry, what did you say?” I asked, sounding as polite as I could be. By now, they must have noticed that I have only little interest in what they are presenting right now. I have already gone through the slides which they had provided me with last night, it was good and nothing to be changed about yet so I don’t get why we still have to spend hours trying to reach a conclusion about. “I was saying the signed documents would be sent to you tomorrow morning.” The represented informed. Standing up, I gulped down the rest of the water in the cup before responding to him. “the documents should be submitted today, as I will be flying back to New York as early as possible tomorrow.” I ordered. There was a time that I used to be a fan of hanging around D.C until something urgent has to take me back to New York. While Zelia had been obsessed with New York then and had her degree there, despite my effort to make her stay down here with me. Now, the tables have been turned and I am the one that can’t seem to stay away from New York for a long time, and it is all because of a woman. Unlike the way I always did at the end of the meeting, I didn’t stay back for a handshake to seal of the deal. Sam had reported to me at the beginning of this week, that Riley had resumed work which was something that I wasn’t expecting. I had wanted to rush back but this damn meeting held me back for more than the initial five days that I had wanted to stay. The way my body reacts at just the thought of Riley’s name is shocking. A woman shouldn’t be having this much effect on me at my age, yet here we are. “You need to set yourself straight.” I thought to myself. There is only reason why I want to have Riley close, so that she would surrogate for my daughter, and that is all. I will have to keep whatever desires that I have for Riley and set my priority straight. “I shouldn’t let any of my desires get in the way, after all, Riley as of the same age with my daughter so.” I thought again. “She could be the same age with your daughter but she isn’t your daughter.” A voice said in my head. It was true, but I need to keep the distance and the respect between us, just so everything would go as perfect as it should be. As I exited the elevator, I shook my head to dismiss all the thoughts in my head before entering the car. “where to, sir?” “Take me to Zelia’s place.” I ordered. Since she would be staying back here for a while, as a father, I should spend the rest of the day with her, although I would have to head to my penthouse early to prepare for my flight in the morning. “Sure, Sir. Do you perhaps want to grab something before we get there?” Do I? “Actually, head to the mall first.” They said that gifts matters too. They might be small, but it would be mean the world to the person gifted. Zelia loves having jewelries and never get tired of buying them, even if it means that her cards would end up getting swiped out. “I make money because of your comfort so buy whatever it is that you want.” I vividly remembered telling her when she had gotten her first card and was scared to use it, as she thought I had given it to her for emergencies only. “The traffic is less, so we will be at the mall in less than fifteen minutes.” The driver informed, cutting off my thoughts. I only nodded my head, which I was sure that he had seen it through the rear mirror before I got rid of my coat and sang my back into the leather chair. Growing up as a kid, I had always seen how others were showered with love and gifts. I was only an orphan that had to work in between three jobs to meet the dead-end. My poor mother had to take her own life off the life support, just because she felt she was more of a burden to me and she died a day after. Since then, I had made a promise to myself that I would make it in life and become someone that everyone looks up to. I wish my mother was here today, to watch my success and be proud of who I had become today. It is why I can’t ever let my own daughter to suffer, the way that I did. History can’t repeat itself so I would do everything in my power, to get Zelia whatever it is that she wants. Even if it means that I have to sacrifice my own happiness. Holding my phone out, I noticed that Zelia had left me a message. It was pictures that she had snapped with Ben for their upcoming anniversary, third year together. I commented on each of the pictures, just as how Zelia had instructed that I do because she does the same thing when I send her pictures before letting her know that I am on my way to her place. Instantly, she responded, making me chuckle. Maybe, I shouldn’t have told her that I was coming and have caught her by surprise. “She wouldn’t have liked that, actually.” I mumbled against my lips.
