Riley. “Don’t you think you would be missing out on this?” Brian questioned after I had managed to put the boys to sleep. It was a havoc coming back to miss the house scattered and I had to swear on myself for giving birth this early. Acting as if I didn’t hear what he had just said now, I began to pick up the toys that was flying around the house. I truly need to do something about the way these kids act when they are with Brian. “The pay is good and if you play the card good, he won’t do anything stupid.” He added. Putting away the toys, I looked at Brian. “I might have never said this, but those twins might belong to my ex and there is a very high chance that I would run into him. They would find out one way or the other.” I uttered in a single breath. The only way out and keeping the twins safe is staying out of their sides and lives. I have taken enough risk by coming back here, so I won’t take another. “That doesn’t even count or matter. You can always tell everyone that the kids are mine. No one would question you and you have your rights.” He argued more. Of course, Brian wouldn’t truly get my point and the reason why I really can’t work under Charles, not even without the existences of the twins. “Don’t take this wrong, Riley. But the offer is damn good and that way, you could provide a life for the twins, the one that you have always planned for them in your head.” He stopped, coming closer to me. I couldn’t help but feel teary. He is right, a month pay would definitely set my life back on track and then, I would enough to save for myself and the kids. “Think about it. I will sleep on the couch and leave before the sun come out.” Brian revealed, taking the couch and he turned his back on me. As much as I had wanted to stay and try to talk more about the way I was feeling about this and more reasons of my decisions, my legs dragged me out of the living room and I joined the twins in the bedroom. I looked around, realizing how true his words were. But I wasn’t ready to let down my guard. If I had a different identity, then I would have stepped up and accepted the job, that way, I can deny whatever comes my way. “Fuck.” I cursed under my breath, pushing a hand into my hair. “I should wait for Sandy’s feedback before making a final choice.” I thought to myself. If her father gets me a job, then I wouldn’t have to be worried about giving Charles a second chance. “That man is creepy when you look at it.” Everything about him screams creep. The way that he had acted the first day that we had met for the second time, then earlier at the community. Just being close to him sends some type of unsettling chills throughout my entire body. Realizing that thinking about Charles wasn’t going to do me any good, I picked up my laptop by the vanity stand, going through available jobs to try my luck. The jobs here are just there, my certificate wouldn’t even help me out here, unless I am lucky to see a huge company, just like I did in the first place. My phone blinked, just as I was about to click on a link to apply for the job. It was from Sandy and my heart had a flop. “was I hoping that it could be Charles?” Hell, no. He should be the last thing on my mind after he had caused me so much depression, just from the moment that I had moved here. ‘Hey Riley, hope you got home safely. I had spoken to my dad earlier while he was at work, which he was glad to at least be a help to you and he tried to put in some words for you but it seemed that there is something wrong because he was told that you had been blacklisted from getting a job at any firm or company. I think you should know where the problem is coming from. Get through it and let me know so that he could try again. I hope that you would still send me the address tomorrow so that I can come and see the twins. Thank you and take care.’ I read aloud, the shock on my face clearly evident that would have been noticed by anyone that looks at me right now. Really, Charles has to go to this extend? And this only means that if I don’t settle with him, then I won’t even get a chance to make life easy for my kids and at the end of the day, I have to go back to the countryside to stay with Nana, which I don’t want. “f**k you, Charles. I hope you never wake up from your sleep.” I was still trying to gather my thoughts, when the email notification flashed on my laptop screen. It was from Charles assistant from the name and that was what I had used to communicate with him the last time. Opening it, I rolled my eyes before reading it. ‘Dear Mrs. Riley.’ I let out a scoff as I read it. My day couldn’t get any worse than this at this point. ‘I hope that this email finds you in good health. The purpose of this email is to inform you that you are to resume to work by next week Monday, as Mr. Charles would be back from D.C for his business trip then. Also, I have attached a link below so that you would add your p*****t details, thank you.” “there is really no way out of this than to accept whatever this game Charles is trying to play with me.”
