Leslie POV Present time “Ouch!” A sharp pain at her rib interrupted Leslie’s daydreaming. She turned to glare at the culprit, Julie, a fellow waiter. “What the–” “He's here again” Julie nodded at the customer who had just sauntered into the bar. Leslie glanced at him, a small smile creeping up her lips. It was the mysterious customer who she had been conversing with for the past week. “Then, I guess I'll better go take his orders” she said slyly, as Julie winked at her. She watched him walk towards the game area. He sat down facing the table that had a chessboard mounted on it. That was how they had started talking; with a game of chess, she thought, as she fondly recalled the memory. She picked up her notepad and walked briskly towards him. Handsome stranger, that was what she called him. Time seemed to fly by when they talked, and she always forgot to ask for his name. He sat as though he owned the whole world, the force of his aura made the surrounding customers uncomfortable as they glanced at him repeatedly. His short black hair, sharp jaw, broad shoulders and relaxed stance gave out a predator’s aura. A handsome predator. Strangely for her, she became more relaxed when she was in proximity with him. Shaking her head, she refused to attach any meaning to it. He looked up at her as she approached, a smirk gracing his lips. “Well, well, well, if it isn't my favorite attendant” his deep voice greeted her. “I'm a waiter and I'm the only waiter you know” “Forgive me” he bowed his head “My one and only waiter” he corrected. Leslie subdued the spark of excitement that tried to rise within her. “What can I get you?” “How about I call you over when I'm ready?” “No game today?” They usually played a game of chess and chatted before he ordered his meal. He shook his head “I'm expecting some friends. Later.” “Oh, alright” Leslie strolled back to her bar station, the feeling of disappointment upon her shoulders. As she cleaned her workstation, she glanced around the bar and studied the people at the seating area. There was something off about them but she couldn't put her finger on it. The Joe-bar where she worked, was the common hangout for lone wolves, criminals and rogues to mix. For the past four years, she had kept her head down, getting by without any trouble with the customers. Today, she didn't recognize most of the customers around and that made her feel weird. From her peripheral view, she saw the handsome stranger signaling for her. “You ready to order now?” she asked He nodded silently, narrowing his eyes at her as though he were in deep thought. “I could wait if you aren't ready” she smiled at him but he continued staring at her intensely. Leslie shifted on her feet and cleared her throat, feeling uncomfortable. Was she wrong to be friendly with this stranger? she questioned herself. “I'll get you the house special since your friends aren't here yet.” He rubbed his chin as he looked at her “oh, they are here already” a dangerous smile appeared on his lips. She glanced around and gulped. Were his friends part of the people that gave her weird vibes? Warning bells were going off within her as she observed him. It was as though something had changed. He smirked, “I want you to do something for me, little wolf” she bristled at the new nickname. “I want you to go to the kitchen and prepare the most difficult dish for me” he continued She looked at him, confused. “Trust me, you don't want to be around here in the next two seconds”. He winked at her. Her eyes widened as understanding dawned on her. “I'll just–” she turned and left in a rush and headed for the staff room instead. She shouldn't have been too friendly, she chided herself. He was probably a rogue criminal who could kill her at any moment. The one thing she trusted was her gut and right now, it was screaming RUN! As she opened the staff door, the noise in the bar increased, followed by gunshots and howls. She sneaked back and hid behind a pillar. Peeping in, she saw about twenty men dressed in an all-black uniform with a silver emblem on their shoulders, apprehending some of the customers. Immediately she fled. Enforcers! What were they doing here? Only the worst of the worst rogues needed their presence. She opened her locker and took out her stuff, letting some fall to the ground. She tore off her bar uniform from her body, replacing it with a black jacket. Her eyes darted around the room and she spotted an open window. She peeped out. With no enforcer in view, she jumped out, landing nimbly on her feet. She bolted across the field into the forest. Her muscles tensed up but she kept going. She risked a glance towards the pub “Oomphf” she collided with something, falling hard to the ground. “There you are, little wolf” She glanced up, heart pounding. It was the man from the pub. In an act of self defense, she jumped to her feet, releasing her claws and scratched him. She shifted to the side and ran. A hard body collided with her again from behind, pinning her to the floor. She struggled underneath, fighting to free herself. “Enough!” Her whole body froze on hearing the command. “Alpha, are you okay?” she heard a voice ask. She glanced at the man above her and averted her eyes. “I'm not going to harm you” he said “so don't run. Except you like the chase, little wolf” he smirked at her. Leslie nodded her head fervently. He stood up and stretched his hand towards her. Leslie placed her trembling hands in his hand and he drew her up. The man touched his neck and brought his hand forward. Blood! Her eyes widened at the sight. She glanced at her claws and saw bits of blood on them too. Did she just– “This is interesting. Come on little wolf, we just need to ask you some questions” He nodded towards the bar and walked towards it. Leslie reluctantly followed. There was no one in sight at the bar. All the many customers had disappeared, Leslie glanced at the broken chairs and table. Taking a seat before her handsome stranger, she asked “What happened here? Who are you?” He nodded towards the remaining enforcers roaming around. “Don't you recognize the uniform?” “But you don't have it on” “I have no need of it” he chuckled. An enforcer approached them, Leslie recognized him as one of the customers who hung around the bar. “Stop” the handsome stranger ordered “I'll ask her the questions. You can go.” The enforcer turned around and left them. “What questions?” Leslie asked “About your boss. It seems he has been hanging out with some very dangerous guys.” “Is that why you were friendly with me?” Leslie asked, anger rising from deep within her “To spy on my boss by using me?” “Not at all,” he answered. “I rather enjoyed our game of chess.” He leaned forward,“what I'm more interested in, is how you did that, little wolf?” The handsome stranger signaled to her hands. Clenching her fist, she raised her chin in defiance “My name is Leslie, not little wolf”. He smirked “I'm Lucas. Now, tell me” “I just did it.” Leslie replied nonchalantly. “Did you know that it's practically impossible for an ordinary wolf to draw blood from an alpha?” Leslie glanced at his neck wound which had healed and gulped. “That means your wolf must be powerful.” “That's not true, I'm not powerful.” “Don't lie to me” “I can't even transform!” she let out. She looked at the floor, fidgeting with her fingers. “It's either you're lying to me or...” he drew closer to Leslie and sniffed the air “something else.” He nodded “definitely something else.” An enforcer walked up to them. “Alpha, Noah just called. You're needed at Obsidian” Leslie perked up at the name. Obsidian as in, obsidian pack? She glanced at the man. Alpha Lucas, she had heard of that name somewhere before. She furrowed her brows, struggling to recall where. “Is that so?” He rubbed his chin and stared at her. “Guess what little wolf? You're coming with me.” Leslie stared wide-eyed. “I- I don't want to.” He c****d his head to the side, “Who said you had a choice?”
