“Janine Kwon, get me a copy of the agenda for the meeting later.” “Janine Kwon, please get these papers photocopied.” “Janine Kwon, please call Ms. Kim for the minutes of the meeting last Thursday.” “Janine Kw—” Janine shut her eyes in frustration as Porter Kim continued to order her around. When will he even understand that she is not his slave or something? Doesn’t he have a secretary for a reason? She muttered another string of curses under her breath as she stood up from her desk and followed his orders. What can she do? If she didn’t, then, this devil would report her to the disciplinary council and would write another letter of apology again. And she knows that when one writes up an apology letter up to three times, it would mean a 3-day suspension. She sighed to herself while walking to Ms. Kim’s office. Since when has she felt like this? Since when has she felt as if her life is being controlled by someone? Only once. Only now. And she hates it to the bones. Every single day that she had entered the office is one additional day of torture and of test of patience. When has she lived this wrongly? Only now. Only when that darn devil Porter Kim came. She immediately took the papers she needed from Ms. Kim before going back to their office and slamming it onto Porter Kim’s desk. “Got it, Sir.” She muttered before heading back to her desk and continued what she was previously doing. She heard him smirk from behind and it just made her blood boil even more. Seriously, she couldn’t even get what is going to do with the proposal to Wu Ent and his freaking hot-s***h-Lucifer Supervisor is stressing her to the limit as well. “Are you alright?” Yasmin asked her as she noticed her clenched fist. Janine sighed hard and got back to her cool before replying to her friend. “I’m okay.” She smiled weakly. Yasmin nodded. “Okay.” She beamed but she didn’t believe that Janine’s fine. Heck, at first she thought Porter was a great boss but when he saw how he tortured Janine Kwon, she thought otherwise. What a spawn of the devil. Janine smiled once again before turning to her work. She has finished gathering information about the history and the strategy of the company but she still couldn’t figure out how to manage them to agree with this. Of course, Mr. Wu would be tough on this because there are a lot of companies who want his artists to model for him. This is the hardest thing about business: finding how to be unique, being able to differentiate yourself from all the other companies out there, finding your true identity. Mr. Lee has always told them that business is about risking everything, about knowing when to gamble in order to gain. But how would one even know when to gamble and when to just stay put? Janine sighed to herself and ran her fingers through her hair. Times like this, she wanted to just fly away. This is too stressful for her to handle. Add her darned Supervisor to her stressor and it’s an all-kill for her. Ugh! “Are you going to have lunch, Jan?” Yasmin asked her. Janine looked at her friend and smiled. “I’ll follow suit.” She replied and Yasmin couldn’t do anything but tell her that she’ll meet her when the break ends before leaving her for lunch. Janine sighed and tried to finish the first paragraph of the proposal. This is the first time that she’s finding difficulty on the proposal. Well, it’s because this is the first time that Mr. Lee actually asked her to make it for a talent agency. Exclusive for that and she’s really feeling pressured to the pits of Mount Fuji. “Aren’t you going to eat yet?” Janine looked at who talked and saw Porter looking down on her. In that instant, her blood already boiled up over the limit of the boiling point – if there is such a thing. How was it possible for a person to just ask you a simple question yet you feel like you want to burn him alive? “Nope.” She replied nonchalantly as she focused on the monitor. Porter shrugged. “Okay. Suit yourself.” He uttered before pivoting to the door and leaving Janine behind. Janine looked at the door when Porter finally left and glared. She rested her back on the swivel chair and massaged her temples. How can there be someone that you hate to the core with just knowing that he breathes? She sighed and finished the first paragraph before getting her things and going for her well-deserved lunch break. Yes, she deserved this break. After all, she spent most of her time doing and finishing Porter’s orders. She walked to the cafeteria and she saw her roommate who works at the design department, Henney Jang, eating alone on one table. Henney saw her and she waved at her. Janine smiled and walked towards her. “Hey,” she called. “You just got out?” Henney asked her. Janine nodded. “I had to finish that proposal for Wu Ent.” She replied. Henney chuckled. “Oh, so you’re the one in-charge of disseminating my designs.” She beamed. Janine narrowed her eyes on her friend. So, she’s the reason why she’s dying right now. Now, she gets why Henney goes home late these past few weeks. She’s finishing the designs. “I think my head is going to break in two.” Janine beamed. Henney laughed. “Don’t worry, Jan. Been there, done that.” She smiled. Janine sighed. “Go buy your food. I’ll sit with you.” Henney beamed. Janine nodded and stood up to get her food. The fact is, she’s not hungry. She just wanted a break from all the work. One more minute inside that room – especially with Porter Kim – and she will grow insane. She just bought whatever she saw first and went back to HaneuPorter’s table immediately. Henney looked up to Janine from texting her ‘friend’, River. “So, how’s work?” She asked Janine. Janine let out a very deep sigh. “You don’t know how terrible I feel when I step into that office since that new supervisor came.” She started to rant. She wasn’t able to tell Henney about her new boss since Henney was either always out with River or going overtime at work. Henney smiled and listened to Janine’s rants. To be honest, this is the first time that she saw Janine this frustrated. Even when Janine and Johann fought, Janine was still composed and calm. But right now, it seems like her loose string was triggered and she’s raging in anger. “He thinks he’s the best of all.” Janine screamed softly. It was impossible to scream softly but Janine did. And she didn’t know how she did it. “He always orders me around like he got no secretary and I hate it. I think I would feel better when I applied on a household instead!” Henney chuckled at Janine remarks. She’s enjoying seeing Janine this disoriented and this angry. At least she learned that even Janine has her limit. Janine glared at her. “Don’t laugh at me.” She whined and Henney laughed even more. “One!” Janine threatened. Henney raised her hands in surrender. “Okay okay! I’m zipping up!” She suppressed her giggle. “But seriously, he’s that bad?” She asked, concerned. Janine sighed and rolled her eyes. “Trust me, I’d rather go to hell right now because it would feel the same. He’s a spawn of Lucifer.” She replied with another long sigh. “Who is a spawn of Lucifer?” Janine and Haneul’s eyes widened when someone talked from the sides. They both slowly looked to the direction where the voice came. And there he is! The main topic of the conversation, with his head c****d to side, arms crossed and brow raised. Henney gulped but Janine only rolled her eyes. Why would she be afraid of him in the first place? It’s break time and he’s not her supervisor on break times, right? Porter smirked and leaned on the table, facing Janine. “Ms. Kwon, who’s this spawn of the devil you are talking about?” He repeated his question. Janine rolled her eyes and sighed quietly to keep her cool, while Henney, on the other hand, is wondering how she could do that. “You.” Janine replied with a smirk back. Porter chuckled before scoffing as he stood up straight before facing Janine down again. “You’re feisty during breaks, Ms. Kwon.” He told her. “You’re actually turning me on.” Janine narrowed her eyes on him. Turning him on? Please! That’s not even in her vocabulary. Porter clucked his tongue and smiled at Janine. “Don’t turn me on like this, Kwon. You don’t know what I’ll do to you.” He winked before leaving Janine flabbergasted. She looked at Henney who’s as shocked as she is. “What. A. Jerk.” She muttered in pure anger. Oh, Janine Kwon, when will you be able to act cool with Porter? -- “Ms. Kwon, come with me to the meeting, later.” Porter spoke as he typed something on the computer. Janine pursed her lips into a firm line and glared at Porter secretly. What happiness does she bring to him that he always asks for her this much? If this is still about the incident about the traffic light, then Janine would really hit him. How can he not move on? Porter raised his brow at her. “Ms. Kwon,” he called again. Janine looked at him and sighed. “Yes, sir.” She replied uninterestedly. Porter smirked. Janine rolled her eyes. When did she ever deserve this kind of job? This is too much torture for her. She has always been a good girl, right? But why did Porter have to come to her life? She sighed for the thousandth time and shut her eyes. “Patience is a virtue.” She chanted repeatedly to herself before continuing to work on the proposal. Why did the stressors come this once? Why did Porter Kim have to come to her life anyway? This is so wrong. -- “How was work, baby?” Johann was all smiles on the monitor of her iPad while she was cooking for dinner. Henney is nowhere to be found once again and she suspects that she’s out with River again. Janine forced a smile. “It was good.” She lied. The last thing she wanted right now is to have Johann worry about her at work. He has to focus on studying so he could graduate and come back already. Johann smiled wider. “That’s good.” He beamed. “I’m doing well too.” He informed her. Janine smiled at the monitor. “Is it hard? Stressful?” She asked, concerned. These past few days, they couldn’t get in touch too much because he’s gotten busy and Janine’s been pestered in the office Johann chuckled. “A lot,” he chimed. “But I’m better now. Now that I saw your smile.” He added. Janine narrowed her eyes on him, suppressing a big smile from escaping her mouth. Heck, seeing him like this erases every ounce of bad vibe in her system. “Smile more, babe. I want to be better.” Johann teased and Janine couldn’t hide it anymore. He chuckled at Janine’s cuteness. “What are you cooking?” He asked as he motioned to look at the vegetables that she’s slicing. Janine giggled. “Seafood stew.” She beamed. “Mom gave me some squids and crabs so, I’m utilizing the resources.” She chuckled. Johann licked his lip. Seafood stew is his favorite. Back in college, Janine would cook him this randomly and he would be extremely happy. “Damn.” He cursed. “I just want to go home and eat with you right now.” He told her. Janine chuckled. “I know how you feel.” She teased him. Johann groaned from the monitor. “Don’t be like this, baby!” He whined. “I really am craving for Seafood stew right now.” He pouted. Janine laughed. “When you get back, I’ll cook you Seafood stew every day.” She promised. Johann was about to cheer from the other line but she cut him before he could even start. “Only when you promise me you’ll study harder.” Johann’s jaw dropped at her words until a smile crept up to his lips. “Damn it. I really chose the right girl, didn’t I?” He chimed while shaking his head and appreciating every inch of Janine Kwon.
