Chapter Seventeen
Why is he here again?
-
Fate Pierce’s Point of View
“Good to see you again, Fate.”
There was nothing else left to do but agree, even if I did not feel that way. I have been doing my best to forget all about the link, but the Alpha King seemed to have another plan in mind. To see him beaming before me, hands offered as if needing me to hold it. My fox wanted to lunge out of my body to accept it.
It’s excruciating to decline my fox’s advances.
I made sure to enter the car without accepting his assistance, and I noticed a sigh that escaped from his lips. Clayton seemed persistent, clearly picking a seat that was opposed to me. It forced me to look at his face, and not from anything else.
But why is he here?
“Why are you here, Clayton? I was sure that you have a meeting and wouldn’t be back for two days.” Somi dared to mouth out the question that flashed through my head. Since she is family, I understand why she did not even hesitate to question the man. The way her face scrunched up in confusion made me aware that Somi was unaware of his sudden attendance.
I keep my face neutral, despite my fox whimpering at those words.
It’s not like we can see him when he’s here and—wait, what the f**k am I thinking about? No! My brain needed to fight the link between us for all the dangerous things that could happen to my kind.
Clayton paused to give me a look as if anticipating a reaction. Upon sensing none, he was quick to reply to his sister’s query. “I decided to cancel it.”
“You what!?”
My body lunged by the sudden break. I could feel the sparks around my body, making it hard to compose myself. To what Clayton had said, even the driver had pressed on the brake too hard enough that I had flung into his hold. It was a good thing that I could breathe panicked at what had happened, effectively giving me the ability to have an excuse to lose my composure. My eyes followed his. I saw how easily his eyes shifted back to their normal hue, informing me how he had lost himself by the sensation.
“I’m sorry,” I was quick to apologize, even knowing that it wasn’t my fault.
“You should put on a seatbelt, Fate,” A small smile escaped his lips as he patted me in the head. The way my name rolled on his mouth felt heavenly, and I hate myself for reacting so poorly on it. “You could get hurt.” His voice felt soft, something that’s soothing for the soul. “I’m sorry that my driver is causing you some stress.”
I nodded. “It’s fine. It was me who had imposed.”
Clayton carefully put me down on my seat, strapping me down himself. The way that his smile had never slipped out of his lips was absolute torture for me. My eyes diverted away from him, catching a familiar view from the street. It seemed like I had finally remembered that we were going to my house! My body shivered into knowing that they could exactly know that my grandparents are wolves! While it does not mean that I will be aware of their kind, it’s a natural reaction that my grandparents would push me into the link.
Fuck.
I did not think about that!
“Mark,” Clayton called, looking behind to see the driver. “Are you in the right mind to be driving with that kind of condition?”
Instead of being scared by the apparent anger that laced through the Alpha King’s voice, the man behind the wheel only offered a soft chuckle. “I do humbly apologize. My mind seemed to be surprised by your words.”
“Yeah! Anyone would have been surprised, Clayton!” Somi added. Her strong reaction through all of this made me question the reason for the sudden fuel in her system. She even forgot that I was in the room and should be outside any insider information about the paranormals. “Dad knows about this, right? He will honestly kill you, Clayton! This is something that you should not decide on your own!” There was a pause from her words before sighing. “I mean… you could. Since you are the K—”
Clayton only patted her in the head, effectively putting a pause to her words. “I have talked to dad about this. Calm down, Somi. You’re scaring your friend.”
It seemed like she had finally realized that I was inside the car. The situation that Clayton missed looked important, and it made me question what could have caused everyone to look so at the edge.
What could have happened for him to act harsh enough that everyone is so surprised that he would drop such an important meeting?
Remembering the events that Kun ever pulled, something that would have us react in such a manner—and nothing comes to mind. Kun would prioritize his meetings, especially if they were important enough to be in his schedule. Despite his overflowing love for the family, he canceled many of our plans because of his important meetings. I had never hindered feelings for him, especially when I saw how tired and guilty he was from the second he entered the room.
Then, what made the Alpha King to miss his meeting?
“Fate?”
“Hmm?”
“Is there something wrong?”
I hummed, looking at Somi, who seemed worried about me. Realizing that I was caught up in my mind made me sit straight, remembering who I was in the presence of.
“Well, I was calling you to ask which direction we’re heading to your room.”
Clayton leaned closer, eyes growing worried. “Are you okay, Fate?”
That is not fair.
He’s too beautiful.
“Yeah, I’m alright,” I answered, quickly snapping myself from appreciating his appearance. It was not surprising that he would gather my interest since he was made for me. “I was just thinking about what I needed to cook for my grandparents.” Looking at the man behind the wheels, I offered a small smile. “Please take me to 1st street, Morinville Village.”
His eyes grew wide. “Of course, Miss.”
“1st Street, Morinville Village?” Somi laughed, softly nudging her brother. There seemed to be a few comedic things around the address—one that I am not getting. Even Clayton seemed pleasantly surprised. “Can’t get angry now, huh?”
“I’m afraid that I can’t.” The Alpha King agreed.
What is going on?
Realizing my confusion about what is happening, Clayton is more than willing to explain. “I initially wanted that place on hold since it offered the best view of the forest. I wanted it for myself, but someone bought it before I could.”
What the f**k.
My father mentioned that he almost lost the place, hence why he wanted my grandparents to move as soon as possible so we wouldn’t lose to someone local. To know that the other person was the King was surprising. It just shows how little the world is.
“My grandparents did appreciate the view,” I mentioned.
“Can I meet your grandparents?” Somi grinned, showing me her puppy eyes.
I fought hard not to cringe at the words. Slowly offering a smile, I replied. “They’re out right now. Since my grandfather is injured, they needed some doctor for some prescription.”
“We have some excellent doctors,” Clayton replied all of a sudden, giving me that irresistible smile. It was apparent that they would have the best doctors, knowing that he was the King, and people would run in here to have his orders fulfilled. “I could offer some assistance if you require it.” He says.
“No, that is not needed. I would feel pressured, but I appreciate the offer. That is kind of you,” My head bowed to the man, wanting to show my gratitude—despite me wanting to do anything but that. “My grandfather had some recommendations from his usual doctors, so he is persistent on going there.”
I bit my lips the second I felt the sparks on top of my head. “Do not bow before me, Fate. That is not something you should do.”
“Thank you.” I smiled.
My mind wandered to what could happen as we arrived. I hope that my grandparents could smell him from a mile away, maybe be aware that I am riding from Somi’s car, or we could get caught.
Fuck.
Help me, Moon Goddess.
