Chapter Sixteen
The art of lying blindly.
Fate Pierce’s Point of View
It’s safe to say that my days of being a normal student had ended.
While nobody was treating me differently because they knew my real identity, all were sucking up to me all because they are now well aware that I am the King’s mate. Somi is the only one who did not change her behavior—which did make sense since this was no surprise for her. If anything, this worked with her favor.
“Fate?” I heard a small voice behind me, making me frown as I see Somi keeping her distance. She seemed really close to her bodyguard as she looked at me with a terrified expression. There was a small chuckle that escaped her lips as she cringed. “A… are you okay?”
I frowned. “Do I seem like I am not?”
“W - well… yeah? I guess...” she bites her lips as her delicate fingers point to the table. “I.. mean... Y - you just snapped someone’s head out of a picture.”
“Quite precisely too.” The warrior added.
Confused, I looked into my hand and carefully let the image off as soon as I did see that there is a picture of a head into my hand. What was I doing? I was sure that we were only studying how I ended up cutting someone’s head in the book? Damn. I will have to pay for this.
“Fate.”
“Hmm?” I hummed, frowning as I looked over if I can see whether this was replaceable for not. Mother will kill me if she realized that I had ruined some historical relic from the palace as that is usually irreplaceable. The was some soft shuffling into my side, making me see that Somi seemed anxious. “Is everything okay?”
She nodded. “My brother…” she paused, and I fought everything in my power to seem unaffected in her words. “Clayton,” Somi added, making me jump at the mention of his voice. Darn it! My reaction alone seemed to satisfy her as she continued. “He told me that you have a boyfriend. I didn’t know that.”
Because it wasn’t right.
Then again, I needed to feed them the lie. It's in the golden book that having a boyfriend is a human’s most secure and safe way into making sure that their mate would leave them the f**k alone. While most animals would casually kidnap them, there are some who are civil enough to wait for the relationship to end.
I doubt that Clayton would do something like that.
He's a King.
...then again, judging by his reaction to my words, he really is contracting a small plan.
I just have to know what.
Remembering the question offered to me, I bubbled my head for a nod. “Well, yeah. I do not like to indulge him further or talk too much about him as I would not like to miss him more.”
“Oh…” she nodded, making me remember the same solemn face that her brother has. “And, do you really love this man? Like you feel like you’re both connected?”
My lips pulled a smile as I replied with a flat lie. “Like we are soul mates.”
“I doubt that,” she whispered, but my ears made me caught it. Knowing that an average human would not hear that, I let it pass. I would see that she would be rooting for her brother, as she had known him more than most. However, she could not push the link to a human.
“What was that?” I muttered, feigning innocence.
She shook her head. “Nothing. What’s he like? Your boyfriend.”
"Hmm?" I hummed, surprised.
"Tell me something about him." She said.
I tilted my head to the side, clearly not having the experience for something like that. "What do you mean?"
Somi nudged my side, and bless her innocence into not seeing my inner struggle. "Like what you love about him and all that." I nodded, planning on rejecting her offer when she continued. "I mean, if you feel like you're soulmates there must be something there."
Fuck.
“Well, he’s the oldest in his family,” I said, panicked since I was not used to telling stories about any boy that you would like to stay longer than five seconds with. That being said, I only describe the only man that I know would suit my taste. “He cooks and takes care of me good. He’s very reliable too.” A small smile slipped into my lips. “Not only that but I know that whatever happens, I can depend greatly on him.”
Somi nodded, slightly smiling at my words. “Really?”
“Yeah, he is really responsible for everything around him. It's one of the things that I really adore about him, the constant respect I have for him is so massive.” I agreed, followed by a laugh as a memory hit me out of nowhere. “There was this time where I got really tired from walking and he offered to carry me, despite it being an hour walk. Even still, he did not say any sort of complaint. Actually, when we arrived home, he asked if I was feeling alright and even made me some food to eat.”
Kun is really special.
The amount of love and respect that I have for my older brother is intense.
He's the second person that stood before my dad, and my brothers all stood behind him on that one. While they all love me in the same manner, Kun is someone who had always made sure that I am trained to handle the kind of power that we have. Not only did he taught me the importance of power, but so does the importance of personality.
...while I do not have the power to actually have it, he is nice enough to share.
“You seem to really love him,” Somi whispered.
I smiled, nodding at her. Of course, I love Kun. He’s my oldest brother, someone who seemed like my second father. Remembering everything about him makes me happy. I do miss him like crazy though, especially when I needed some uplifting.
His magic skills are really excellent.
“Ms. Hawthorne.” Someone called, suited in another black and white tux as he bowed at us. “Your ride is here for tonight.”
As soon as we heard that, Somi and I gathered our things. Since my granpapi couldn’t drive still, I am forced to take a ride with Somi. It’s not like she minded, even though my route is on the other road that she will receive.
“Thank you for this, Somi,” I muttered, frowning at her. “I would love to have my own car to drive myself, but I doubt that I will have my way back home.”
She smiled. “You’re always welcome. Besides, it’s not like we’re strangers. You can always depend on me with things like this.”
“This is why we’re friends.” I teased.
“Because I have a ride, yes.” She added. "And I thought that you're not using me?"
I fake a thinking face. "I vaguely remember telling you on the first day that I am using you."
The second we looked at each other, nothing but laughter ensued to the both of us. Maybe it was because I am a year older than her, but it seemed like we really clicked. Not only do I feel mature due to her innocence but it really drives me into a protective mode with her.
Walking into the hallway seemed nothing but a breeze now that we have guards with us from knowing who I am. The warriors all frowned as they held onto their ear, acting as if someone was transceiving some message when they were just talking in their minds.
“Is everything okay?” Somi questioned as soon as we reached the outside of the building.
Instead of answering, my heart hammered when I had smelled a familiar scent. My mind came to understand why everyone seemed frazzled. For the second that a car rolled before us, everyone gathered behind us.
“It seemed like something changed on the schedule.” The warrior muttered.
I did not even reply as the car stopped, walking out of the vehicle is Clayton in all his glory. He offered a small smile in my direction and my heart did nothing but a double flip. Don't f*****g show me your dimples like that's going to change things!
Soft shrills escaped from behind us, making Somi sighed as she pulled her brother and me into their car.
Tell me why we’re doing this again?
Ugh!
