Greta

{Sophia’s POV} I had been staying with this woman for nearly a month now. She told me her name was Greta, and that she only wants to help me. She said she knew what it was like to be heartbroken and alone. My hair’s natural silver color shone in the sun as she took me outside for the first time since I woke up a week ago. Yesterday she went to town, I stayed in bed, she said she’d get me shoes, but she had forgotten. I didn’t mind, it was nice to feel the earth under my feet, I actually enjoyed the grass between my toes as I went for a stroll with her. “I noticed some wolf prints out in the distance, around where I found you. Noticed them yesterday, which means they’re fresh. Would anyone be looking for you?” She asked, her voice seeming slightly worried. “They were probably checking to see if I had died out here. My ex mate.. he wanted me to suffer, then die out here in these woods. It’s why he had his Beta leave me here.” I said truthfully, she had never been anything but kind to me, and she deserved to know the truth. “Well, let’s just hope they leave well enough alone, you may not be thriving at the moment, but you are surviving. The last thing we need is some a****** alpha trying to win you back!” She said with a laugh. “Don’t worry Greta, he doesn’t want me back.” I said, smiling softly in the sunlight. “Either way, we should really cover your head with mud. If they did find you, that hair is unmistakeable, and it carry’s most of your scent. Mud will help drown out the scent, and hide that silver hair.” She said walking to the river that was nearby. She dipped her hands in it, and slowly dug out some mud. “This will help keep you safe my dear, especially if they do come looking for you.” She walked over to me and smiled. I knelt to my knees, and returned her smile, Bowing my head to her. She slathered the mud onto my head, and worked it down the sides. My hair was up in a bun, so there wasn’t too much work to do. “Your eyes are beautiful, but they’re also a dead give away.” She smiled. “When we get back home, there are a pair of brown contacts for you. They will keep your eyes hidden.” “Thank you Greta, for taking care of me, you truly are a kind soul.” I said, standing and following behind her. We walked back to her house, a little cottage in the middle of a clearing. As we walked inside, she went to the sink and washed her hands. She dried them off with a towel, and turned, grabbing a container from her purse. She brought it over and handed it to me. “Don’t take these out, not unless you’re sleeping!” She warned, her voice showing worry. “What’s the matter? You’re acting so strange today.” I said, looking to the mirror and putting in the contacts. With that my hair was stained brown from the mud, some chunks of it stuck in my hair, and my eyes were the same color. I looked ordinary, and I was happy to look so different. I doubted anyone would come for me, but if they did, I’d rather look like this, and my scent be masked more. I already smelled of rogue, but I knew that the Beta could easily pick up my remaining scent under that. This mud could really help, and my appearance would definitely throw him off. “How do I look?” I asked with a slight smile on my face. “My dear, you’re always beautiful, just please, stay safe if you venture outside.” She warned me, cupping my cheeks lightly in her old, wrinkled hands. “Of course Greta, I will stay safe, you know I will!” I smiled back, placing my hands over hers. “Thank you, for everything!” I spoke softly, as tears begin to stream. I hadn’t known such kindness since back when I was a child, and my parents were alive. “You know how to get back to that river child?” She asked, changing the subject and turning around. “Yes, it’s not too far from here.” I answered her calmly. “Good, down the river a little ways, further from our house is a bridge. Across that bridge there is a field with some berries. They should be ripe by now, would you mind going and picking some for us. Enough to fill this basket, at least!” She said turning back and handing me a medium sized basket. “Sure thing!” I said taking the basket from her gently. “I’ll be back before you know it!” “Take your time child, stop and smell the roses, and just breathe.” She said with an expression I couldn’t quite read on my face. “Alright, I’ll take my time, and breathe..” I said a soft smile growing across my face. I turned and made my way out the door, closing it behind me. I began my journey back to the river, and soon I found it. It took me around twenty minutes to get down to the bridge, and I crossed it carefully. I found the berry bushes, and began filling up the basket. I filled it and made my way back to the cottage, as I approached the door, I noticed it was ajar.” I was sure I closed this..” I whispered to myself. “Greta?” I asked softly as I opened the door. My heart dropped as I saw the lifeless body of Greta on the floor. She was torn apart, limbs scattered across the floor. “Greta!” I called out, running to her side. I lifted her blood soaked body from the floor, tears brimming in my eyes. I knew who did this, and I would pay them back for this! If they found her, I knew they’d come for me soon, I quickly got to work and buried her outside. After that, I gathered some supplies and ran for the hills. I wasn’t sure where I was going, I just knew I was heading far away from my old pack. I ran for days, until I finally came upon a large gate, there was a wall that was built along the trees in the forest. So long and tall that you couldn’t scale it, or make it in without an invitation. I made my way to the large gate, my heart pounded in my chest, and my feet ached. They were covered in blisters and blood, and my body was coated in mud, and the blood of Greta.
